We had a lovely two night break, the room, breakfast and dinner were all excellent. John and the staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Many thanks to John for rearranging at short notice due to my illness. The hotel is in a quiet little village, where you can sit on picnic benches or walk by the river Elwy. It was so quiet at night and we slept well in the comfortable bed. The hotel is well placed for visiting the North Wales coast and many places of interest. We would definitely like to visit again.

We have a caravan in Pensarn so know this inn well, having dined here many times with our family, but we had never stayed before. We had an anniversary on 23 march so as a treat we decided to book a room at the inn. What a good choice the staff were welcoming and helpful the room was a delight very comfortable warm spotlessly clean and with double aspect great views of the river and the village.Lovely evening meal ,the only down side was that there was only another couple staying so lacked atmosphere but that’s not their fault.Great breakfast served at a civilised time by the owner John.He was a great host attentive and friendly nothing was to much trouble and we had a good chat.We will certainly stay here again as soon as possible. We can only recommend you stay here for value and quality you will struggle to match this.John if you read this we were the couple from Bootle, thanks for a great stay.

The Black Lion is lacking in nothing. In a lovely small village in a beautiful setting by the river Elwy. Always very nice attentive staff, and food is superb. We've stayed here Valentine's night this year and last, and our room was really lovely. Great attention to detail in this place. We'll be back for more, a worthy place.

Wow what a gem of a find! We stayed for 2 nights. Lovely large room and beautiful toiletries. We had an evening meal both nights which was freshly cooked as was breakfast and was delicious. John and his team were friendly and efficient creating a lovely ambience. Would highly recommend.

My wife and I have just returned home from the Black Lion after spending a great 2-day break. John and his team were so pleasant and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and always greeted with smiles. The pub is in a lovely location on the river Elwy offering scenic walks, and also great to get out and about in North Wales. I would wholeheartedly recommend the pub's spacious rooms, cleanliness and really tasty food. Will be one of our 'go to' places now!!

2 night stay using a gift voucher. We were greeted warmly by staff on arrival. Our room was lovely and warm. Extra touches were well thought out. Plenty of tea and coffee in room. The bathroom had everything you needed. Towels were large size. Food was good and plentiful, we had dinner both nights and could not fault anything. Ideal location for seeing sights of North Wales. Would return.

We enjoyed a superb 2 night stay here. The hospitality of John and his team was first class, making us feel very welcome. The food was to die for, I had an amazing fillet steak on our first night, and, as other people have said, the Full Welsh Breakfast is huge and very tasty, and cereals, yoghurt and toast are also available. The village location is brilliant, also boasting another olde worlde pub in The Swan, and The Black Lion is within easy driving distance of local attractions such as Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and the rest of Norh Wales. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I enjoyed our wedding anniversary here for 2 nights. From start to finish the visit was absolutely lovely. Staff were all really friendly and helpful too, which is always a bonus amd John, the manager, was very welcoming. We stayed in the Barog room. It was perfect. Well stocked bathroom, well stocked tea and coffee making facilities and very comfortable bed and decor. It didn't feel like a hotel room at all, it felt very personal and cosy. The food was amazing! Great quality and taste and the portions were more than generous. Breakfast is also very good. A choice of cereal, fruit amd yoghurt which you help yourself to, as well as juice and a full cooked Welsh breakfast with toast. I just could not fault it. Lovely location, lovely hosts and fabulous food. Can't wait to return.

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend and were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful with the beer garden right on the river. The village itself is also nice to walk around. From the moment we arrived the staff were all friendly and helpful. We were quickly shown to our room which was large and well equipped with a comfy bed. There was some noise from the bar below but this didn’t go on until late and you are staying in a pub! The food was very good and reasonably priced. Starting with the breakfast where you could have a full ‘Welsh’ fry up. This was a very large breakfast with good quality food, so big I didn’t finish it. The starters were also a good size, my wife had a goats cheese starter that wasn’t far off being a main meal! The steak and burger was good and the steak, Stilton and Ale pie was great (and large!). Overall this is a wonderful setting, well priced food and drink and a great place to stay.

I stayed here in June for a birthday trip and for a gig in Rhyl and was really happy with the Black Lion. The whole place was lovely including the public areas and the bedrooms. My room was a really decent size and the bathroom extras were a very nice touch. The staff couldn't do enough to help and were always warm and welcoming. It was in a good location that was lovely and quiet and it was really easy to get out and about. I would highly recommend staying here and cannot wait to come back!
