The place has character. It has charm. But it's not clean, which is just unacceptable in my mind. I imagine it costs a lot of money to keep up an inn such as the Welbourne, but I do not think it would cost the owners...More

"Only the cool people stray here" is how Welbourne was described by one guest - a professional poet - to other guests. Big, sprawling, quirky and completely authentic down to the tiniest Antebellum detail. Straying here like living as a member of the extended family...More

My daughter and I stayed as part of a wedding party. The "farmer's wife was gracious enough to take us on a tour of this magnificent property.We watched the hunt and enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts.

This was a wonderful- quintessential bed and breakfast! My husband and I stayed for our wedding anniversary and had a blast! The house has aged beautifully and is well kept. We very much enjoy American history and this house gave exactly what we were looking...More

When I phoned for reservations, Nat told me "Welbourne is a home, not a hotel, so if no one is here, just go into the front hall and there'll be a note on the table telling you where your room is. Cocktails are at 7."...More

Hi Ben We stayed at Melbourne back in June this year, and they certainly have the Scott Fitzgerald short story as we read it there. I don't know about the Thomas Wolfe one. Good luck
