I stayed here for four nights. My travelling partner had to make an emergency return home, and front staff were very helpful in putting me into a smaller room at less cost on short notice.

Classic Spanish beauty of a hotel, quiet, off of the main square in Granada. Three separate courtyards, two with swimming pools, and one a garden. Clean rooms, comfy bed, good air-conditioning, clean, functional bathroom. Breakfast is good and the kitchen dining area off the pool is pleasant. Restaurant only open for breakfast.

Lots of restaurant choices within a short walk. Area felt very safe, with no issues of walking to the cafes at night. Very pleasant stay.

We technically are not guests of this hotel, though it looks to be a beautiful property. But even the best looking places are only as good as their staff. And we want to comment on the wonderful and welcoming help we received twice from Laura at the front desk. Very friendly, smart, and kind. Couldn’t ask for someone better to represent a business. If we come back to Granada, we’ll consider staying here

Being well situated close to the square it is hard to imagine what awaits inside the walls, but as you enter reception all becomes clear. Very colonial and open to th elements in style the impression is good.

Two small swimming pools are located on the ground floor, however there were only a few sunbeds, due to the lack of space. This wasn't a big deal during our visit as the other guests were busy sightseeing.

Our room was spacious with two double beds, a dressing room then separate shower room and loo. However, due to the fact that it is an old building the room was very dark and the lighting did little to improve it so difficult to read in there. there was a hairdryer in the room but no safe.

In addition during the night there was a lot of metallic noise and sounds similar to a trolley being wheeled around on the roof (we were on thesecond/top floor), so no idea what it was. Complained at reception and they did offer another room but my husband didn't want to move as he was in bed. (Room 33 - avoid.

Outside the room was a bench which was nice to sit on in the early evening, overlooking oneof the pools.

The hotel is on two floors but there is no lift.

Staff were friendly and helpful and refilled our water bottles free of charge.

Breakfast was very slow and served so you couldn't do anything to quicken it up, they were there before time but wouldn't start taking orders. Had to chase our pot of tea 3 times, then she brought coffe and continued to pour it into a cup as we said no we wanted tea!! There were 3 choices all which were good when they finally arrived.

Overall a reasonable place, in a good position for visiting the sights but a few issues need addressing.

I went to Nicaragua in January to escape the unusual rain and the winter cold. Did I mention I live in San Diego, California? Yes, San Diego is hard to beat, but the sunny warm weather of Granada, the bilingual employees at Hotel Colonial, the charming appeal of the hotel, the beautifully kept pool and site, and the easy check in and check out was quite welcoming for me. And the price, my gosh, I paid US $75.00 per night for what they call an apartment on the second floor with a view of the pool, and a full kitchen, and A/C.

In addition, the hotel is centrally located, just steps from el Parque Central and the Catedral. Overall it was just an incredibly pleasant experience in a small hotel with a lot of character just like the Nicas (Nicaraguans).

I would go back any December or January.

I think the Hotel Colonial is one of the friendliest hotels I have ever stayed at. Luis at the front desk was extremely helpful. He gave us ideas as to where to eat and what to do. It was very clean and our room was furnished well. It is centrally located in Granada, so it was easy to get just about anywhere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to vacation in Granada.

A great location just off the main plaza and three blocks from the municipal market, the Hotel Colonial has large rooms, canopied beds, and a wonderful breakfast with a choice of traditional Nica food or American style. The beautiful tiled pool sits in an inner courtyard and has a bar you can order from while sitting in the pool.

we stayed at the Colonial from Nov. 21 to Nov. 24, 2006

GRANADA: I am really glad you booked us into the "Hotel Colonial" and not the Hotel La Grand Francia. We checked it out and saw, that the Pool is not in an open area, it has a cover and no sunshine would come in. The Pool at the Colonial is in an open courtyard without a roof and the sun comes in, so one really can relax. The room at the Colonial was in tip top condition and everything worked, and the mattress is really good. Breakfast was excellent too. We had our evening meals at the Hotel Alhambra located on Parque Central, it worked out great. One evening meal we had at the fancy La Gran Francia, it did not live up to it's billing and we paid double the price than at Alhambra. The only thing which really needs to be being taken care of is the cleanliness of the Parque Central, where all the Tourist congregate. It is full of garbage, and does not leave a good impression. Funny though, just a few streets away we saw government employees cleaning streets and park areas on a daily basis.
