This place, and the owners, will have you loving Villa Metato. All the reviews describe the positives, but just to let you know what the "warts" are: the bathroom and kitchen are liveable-with, but form part of a lower floor that is neglected in comparison to the upper floor. The lower floor could be updated to incorporate a swanky kitchen... More

Getting to Villa Metato from Florence is pretty straightforward, and once you're off the A1, the Tuscan/Umbrian countryside starts to emerge. The turning to look out for is by the 'Bum Bum Bar' (formerly known as 'Bad Boys'). Despite what one might think, this isn't remotely gay, and the name probably stems from its patrons being content to sit on... More

Fantastic villa so stylish and chic, great pool and great owners/hosts. A truly fabulous place to use as a base to explore Umbria and Tuscany, and also for hanging out by the pool. You do need a car and the drive up their track is interesting - all part of the fun really.

I can't recommend Villa Metato highly enough - it's a gem of a place, and hosts Nick and Margherita are outstanding. We had the most relaxing week - swimming, sunning, drinking wine in the swing chair, exploring the beautiful countryside. Completely heavenly. From the house (beautifiul, cool, eclectic), to the breakfasts (we miss the home grown fruit and Marghi's smile!),... More

My husband and I stayed here in the middle of traveling all around Italy. It was one of the highlights of our trip. I wish we had stayed longer. The space was larger than our apartment back home with two-floors of mid-century modern and 70s decor and all of the comforts (and more!) of home. Margherita shared their delicious house... More

We dared to venture up into the Unbrian hillside without a car - and had booked Villa Metato for a 4 day hideaway in between Florence and Rome city breaks, so we spent all our time at the villa. We loved the decor and the country location - with lots of areas to explore by foot. We were never bored... More

We were lucky enough to spend the first week of our honeymoon at Villa Metato which was the perfect place to unwind after all the excitement of our big day. It is in a stunning location, set up in the hills, looking over the Umbrian countryside. On arrival at the villa, we were met by the owners, Margherita and Nick,... More

I can't recommend Villa Metato highly enough. It is a beautiful converted haybarn tucked away in the rolling hills of Umbria with nothing other than the cirruping of cicadas and the wind in the trees to lull you to sleep. The villa is stylishly decorated with gorgeous mid-century modern treats – think Mad Men goes on location. It is light... More

Villa Metato really is a wonderful place to stay. It is in a beautiful location, secluded yet within an easy drive to lots of interesting Umbrian and Tuscan towns. The hosts are also amazing. Margherita looked after us so well, from the beautiful breakfasts with home-made jams, to art books, restaurant recommendations and great chats. The villa itself is huge,... More

It's is easy to think of many superlatives that go along with this villa but it's not only about the accommodation (an amazing 1 bedroom /studio converted 18th century barn) or the furnishings (modern twist on a 50s/60s theme) it is also about the owners. They provide a very warm welcome with information, enthusiasm and smiles. They left us alone... More
