We stayed in the Roland Cottage which far exceeded our expectations for only $180 a night in peak season.

It’s a little further away from Cradle than most of the main hotels, but in a way we liked this better as it was quiet and peaceful - there aren’t many cottages and they are set right against beautiful bushland, making you feel like you’re in the forest.

The cottage has a well-appointed kitchen with all the cookware you could possibly need, plus a microwave, kettle, fridge, stove and dishwasher. Coffee, tea and sugar were also provided.

Best part of all though was a huge spa bath with bubble bath provided, lovely after a long day of hiking!

We only wish we could have stayed longer.

Just when we were giving up finding something nice at a reasonable price, along came Cradle Alpine retreat.
Unfortunately, we never did get to meet the owners. We arrived and picked up the key from an empty reception and left the key on our departure. The room was wonderful, the owners had left the heating running. It was spacious, clean, had a beautiful view, was comfortable and very well equipt. The owners had thought of everything.
I have two complaints, one we were spoilt and nothing else would live up to this and two, the restaurant across the road decided to close at 5 pm due to lack of business.
Fortunately, we had some food with us, else it would have been a long drive to Sheffield for some supplies. The lady in the restaurant just said, 'Sorry we have decided to close early'. The place really didn't deserve tourists after Covid with an attitude like that, I'm afraid. The only blot on a great stay.

Rustic little cabins ( 4 in total but all facing bushland and not overlooking one another) in the woods. Perfect for accessing Cradle Mountain (about a 40 minute drive). Its a bit on the older side but everything appeared to be in working order. The massive bath tub was also a real bonus especially after a day of trekking up at Cradle Mountain.

We just wanted to convey our dissatisfaction with this chalet "Wellington"
The room wasn't very clean along with inadequate COVID-19 facilities. We have stayed at 2 other locations prior to coming here and they both were spotless and had provisions for COVID including sanitizer and plenty of hand soap. I went to cook with the frying pan and all of them were disgusting and certainly hadn't been washed up properly so I went to get something from under the cupboard to clean it with and the steel wool cleaner In the cupboard was old and dirty-disgusting. There was no provisions for the dishwasher also. All in all we would have left the first night if we hadn't have paid in advance. We paid much less for our accommodation in Devonport and it was so much better than this. I don't make a habit of complaining but we expected a little better than this. Also mentioned in the description was mountain views, dining setting, house keeping, laundry facilities, portable WiFi ??
Very disappointed on what was portrayed and what we actually got.
We won't be coming back again

The cottage is spacious, bathroom and toilet are clean.

However attention should be given to the kitchen. There is a half drunk soft drink bottle in the fridge. Lots of half used unclean sauce left behind from other guests.

All the tea and coffee container very dirty. A generous supply of jam, peanut butter, vegimite sachets. . Lucky I checked before using them and they are all expired.

It’s difficult to get the temperature right for the shower. It’s either hot or cold.

And no Internet provided.

For a rate of over $300/night in a remote location 40 minutes drive to nearest town which has a super market and 40 minutes drive to Cradle mountain, I was disappointed and don’t think it’s a fair rate.

Also during covid 19 period, not having access to clean kitchen utensils, no sanitary wipes or gel, left over food from previous guests, no rubbish bags, etc is really careless.

This place was exceptional. We stayed in the lovely Cradle SPA cottage. It was absolutely beautiful. Clean, tidy, massive for the 4 of us. They had bacon, eggs, tomatoes, bread and spreads ready for us! Heating was perfect. It really was like staying in Canada in the winter. Lovely wooden features, a huge kitchen, lovely bathroom and the views from the patio into the wilderness/forest was stunning. A great place to forget about the real world for a while. We went to the Inn across the road which was excellent - Garlic Cheese Pizza was great and the wine was delicious! Didn’t really care about no reception or wifi as this was the point of being out in Cradle Mt, to escape the technologies of today. Kids loved it. Highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to return!

We sincerely wish to thank you our hosts at the Cradle Alpine Retreat for your warm hospitality by having the heater on and providing us with fresh eggs. We loved your chalet / spa room. It was very homely. Thanks too for passing on the phone message from our daughter during our coverage drama's with Vodaphone..

What lovely surrounds and wildlife.
What a great spa bath!
Great comfort too despite the cold rainy weather (lousy only for one night, then an absolutely ideally setting in a really beautiful part of the world.
We hope to return to Cradle mountain and will definitely stay there again.

Stayed in the Hartz cabin for 2 nights and wished it was longer. The cabin was perfect, spotlessly clean, spacious, modern and very well equipped with gorgeous bush outlook and on our last day woke up to completely snow covered and still fawling, just beautiful. Only a 25 minute drive up to Cradle Mountain. Well worth a stay in the Cradle mountain area. Highly recommend Cradle Alpine Retreat.

Took young family for a couple of nights. The cabin had an quiet, alpine feel, with excellent bathroom facilities. Had an amazing wood fire which was cozy with plenty of fire wood. The included breakfast was awesome - plenty of breakfast food. Cabins located in walking distance to Cradle Forest Inn which had Feathers Restaurant. Enjoyed an afternoon on the deck watching padymelons, Retreat is located about 10kms from Cradle Mountain attractions including Devils @ Cradle. Woke up the last morning and it zero degrees so loved the fire, but not melting the ice on the car windscreen. Definitely recommend this place to stay!
