At the time I was staying renovations were going on so there was no food service or bar, just a bed for the night. As others have said this is dated 1970s and the renovations will be welcome. I had lights missing from my room and no iron or ironing board to freshen up a shirt in the morning. Take... More

With some 1970s charm, plenty of space and a warm welcome, you can do a lot worse than staying here. To be fair, the highlight is absolutely the service. We were on a weekend cycling trip riding some of the Twin Coasts Cycle Trail and we absolutely delighted with the level of service we received here. The managers have established... More

This place can be described as early 60s retro with some amazing features like the ancient radio cum light panel. I stayed in room 32 which had a queen and a single bed and was extremely spacious. A curious feature was that there was a small fridge in the room with fresh milk but no cups, saucers or tea. These... More

Good sized room (which could fit 4 to 5 people comfortably) and bathroom with bath. Got a little cold during the night despite having a heater on. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Some noise at night from other guests. Overall satisfactory but maybe a bit overpriced for what you got.

A group of 16 of us stayed here for 1 night late in April....and what an unexpectedly delightful experience it was too. Yes this motor inn old (right down to the beer bottle opener and built in razor blade disposal units, both in the bathroom, and the old wireless in the bedroom) but it is perfectly preserved (VERY retro) VERY... I had a group of student from Singapore stayed at this fantastic place and the owners, Lindal and Michelle accommodated us with their great service. Both of them have been helpful and the kids enjoyed every min of it. We stayed for 6 nights in Kaikohe and had breakfast and dinner each night. Cleanliness at Mid North is top class.... More

Lindel the owner was very helpful and a hell of a nice guy. He was attentive and made sure I had all I needed. My room was nice and cleaned and serviced each day. I also had the steak dinner from the restaurant . It was so nice I had it two nights in a row.

We booked this as a very last minute stop. The hosts were absolutely wonderful, very accomodating and helpful. The rooms were simple, but very clean and provded all that we needed. The kitchen was well stocked - considering the limited eating options in Kaikohe (we had chinese takeaways for dinner and McDees for breakfast) this is a real perk and... More

Travelling to kaikohe for business with the Far North district Council I was happy to stay where ever they booked me. However from the moment I rang to check on airport transfer services I realised this was friendly family service with a difference. This 70's motor in is under going a gradual revamp ready for the opening of the new... More

We were a bit worried where to stay in Kaikohe as we had been told not to stay there as we wouldn't have any wheels on our car by the next morning. However we were lucky to drive to the end of the shopping area and on the right we came across this gem. You turn into the drive and... More
