The Black Lantern Inn is absolutely beautiful & an outstanding experience! This formerly condemned then meticulously restored home is amazing! Every detail, just gorgeous. [We enjoyed looking at the before/after renovation album!] It's obvious the owners [Ron & Claire] poured so much of their time, love, & energy into this welcoming inn. Delicious homemade cookies await your arrival to your... More

Looked at on the map this place looks like it might be poorly located. We just spent one night but were very impressed with the Inn itself, which has been upgraded considerably, and the management. Very helpful, friendly, and an excellent cook. We had a very good breakfast that we enjoyed with the other couple staying there. If you are... More

We were given a wonderful gift from our children, 2 nights stay at the Black Latern Inn. We chose the Skyline room. The room was wonderfully spacious and decorated beautifully as was the entire Inn. This was our first stay at a B & B. We loved Ron and Claire's attention to detail in the renovation of this beautiful home... More

This gorgeous Inn was renovated by the host/owner's own hands - from a condemned property to a masterpiece. The exterior maintains the historical integrity of the structure, while the interior is modern, clean and tastefully decorated. Our host, Ron, was welcoming and made us feel at home. We had a wonderful room on the 3rd floor with plenty of comfortable... More

We stayed here for one night recently in the Cozy Quarters room. It is very stylishly decorated & the bed is very comfortable. We were not disturbed by any traffic noise. There is a comfortable sitting room on the first floor plus kitchens on both the first & second floors. Tea, coffee & soft drinks are provided with a small... More

We adored our stay at the Black Lantern. We stayed in the Venetian Room which was on the first floor, tucked away towards the back of the house, so it was very private. Ron made us feel so comfortable, we felt like we were staying with friends. Breakfast was great. Plenty of deck space around the house (even on the... More

We were very fortunate to secure the Skyline room on the third floor for our weekend visit to wineries near Roanoke. It is a large, comfortable, beautifully decorated suite, and spotlessly clean. The Inn was personally renovated by Ron and Claire, and their attention to detail and love of the project is obvious. The entire Inn is beautiful and looks... More

we had a one night stay recently at the Black Lantern Inn. What a wonderful place! I could go on and on about the great room, delicious breakfast, quiet and peaceful nights sleep (even tho it is near the freeway), close proximity to downtown etc but it was the feeling of being at "home" that we experienced that we really... Ron is the perfect host. He showed us around and offered to help with the luggage and explained where we could eat in the evening and even where we could buy a new map as we had lost ours. The building is beautifully renovated by Ron himself and he has done a brilliant job. We were one floor up and... More

We stopped at the Black Lantern Inn on our way home from hiking near Gatlinburg, TN. Easy drive off the highway into a beautiful and quaint historic neighborhood. Rooms are very quiet and tastefully decorated (I thought they hired a designer but it turns out the owners have great taste!). Walking distance or a short drive into downtown Roanoke, only... More
