Detailed Reviews
Holiday Inn markets itself as an upper tier family hotel. This part of the chain is not family friendly.
There were two electrical plugs in room #521. One beside the small round pedestal table and one directly across from it between the bed and the window. The table could not have two kids/teens sitting at it unless they can share very well. There was only one end table in the room so I had to use a chair for an end table to place my book and my water on beside the bed. Or I could walk around the bed to use the end table that was between the two beds and my wife was using. If you hare a family of 4 you will notice that there is only the end table in the center so your kids will not be able to game until they fall asleep, or the video games will be on the floor. There are insufficient plugs and flat surfaces in the main room.
The bathroom had the plug in the wall opposite from the door way, above and near the toilet. So if you need to use the port for an electric razor or a curling iron you will get in the way of someone using the bathroom or washing their hands. The towels are by the plug-in. In order to stop light from leaking into the room, we had to uude the pants hanger and clip the shades together.
They hotel staff does not stay on top of cleanliness or maintenance. On Saturday I reported that there was a broken car window in the overflow lot. The glass was still there Sunday Morning even though our group filled the parking lot on Saturday.
Saturday morning there was litter left all over the 3rd floor balcony. They finally got a trash can up there later in the day. Sunday it appears that the restaurant in the hotel did not do the hotel any favors. They piled their garbage on the pool deck in plain sight by the conference rooms that we were using. There is only one stall in the men's room by ballroom F. One of the 4 toilet paper dispensers was broken and the support railing pulled out a quarter inch from the wall.

I stayed here as it was half way between NJ and NC. I booked the room on the IHG app and it was noted that the prices increased as the week before, the room was around $100 but the day i booked it, it went up to $140. I also added the breakfast and my final bill was just over $200. Not sure why the prices are different but wasnt too happy about that.
The check in was ok but it was strange that the receptionist and bar tender were both cleaning and using mops. The bartender was also serving food and drinks. Although i did have a nightcap, I had one and went to bed.
Lobby was large and it was noted the hotel was connected to an event or conference center and had displays for new carpet and tile arrangements. Not sure if the renovations started or if I was not in one of the rooms that was being updated.
The Room: large and functional. However a few issues which i did not raise with reception. The bed was not 100% made properly, the lowest drawer did not close properly and kept opening (possible trip hazard at night), the AC was loud, th desk chain (almost fell off!) did not stop when leaning back, the wall outlets were loose with exposed wiring, the curtains did not close all the way and were not black-out types and the window, which overlooded the landing with large seating area, did not have privacy glaze so everyone outside can see inside.
Bathroom: Large and functional, great amenities but the shower doors did not close properly even when on the rails. Shower pressure was a bit low but if it was an environmentally friendly head, then ok.
Breakfast: Not sure if the prices was the same as it was quoted on the IHG app but I have a feeling it was cheaper at the hotel than on the app. The coffee was super burnt and undrinkable and the bagels could have been fresher. The bacon and sausages were very good though.
Not sure if I would stay here again as there are plenty of other IHG properties
nearby. It was noted the hotel parking was full but maybe as its close to near by businesses and base but may pass this place next time, sorry!

This is a fantastic property. Grounds are nice and lobby is pretty much spectacular fo this brand. My room couldn't be upgraded (sold out) but the standard room was like an upgrade at other HIE's, clean, neat, massive showers and good sleep quality. Breakfast was amazing for this chain, not the reheated pre made stuff that is the norm but a fresh and massive buffet with a lot of options, or you could order and get made to order. So, why not a 5? Wanted to get something to eat when I arrived and the Pizzeria Oven was broken, chair in my room was also broke, as was one elevator and the other was literally on life support (I was on 6th floor). People at the breakfast area were also commenting on elevator, wasn't just me. Doors wouldn't open, getting stuck, going wrong way... didn't make me feel very safe. What a shame they have issues like this.

Hotel's Favourite
Enjoyed the stay here. I came here for one night after a bad experience at another hotel that I had to check out of early. The staff was very nice and professional. Even while I was booking they were great. They kept my bags safe and let me check in early. I got an accessible room and it was great. The showerhead was detachable which I really like in the accessible rooms I stay in. It was located right down the hall from the fitness room and not far from the outdoor pool(although the weather was iffy so I didn't swim while there). They have an area wherw you can purchase items like over the counter meds and snacks and there is a bar in the hotel. The lobby is quite big and seemed lively. Overall it was a really good experience especially after a really bad one.

This Holiday Inn has to be the dirtiest Holiday Inn in the country. The bathrooms were old and abused, my toilet got clogged one time. The carpet in my room was sticky and the furniture in the room was so worn it was bent. When I checked in the hotel my a/c unit was so dirty I was going to over look it, but I ended up calling them to clean it out. At night one time there was loud music in the parking lot more than one, for which I had to call them, people running in the hall way, the elevators broke a few times. The lobby had me fooled! This was a mess! I’d would not recommend this hotel. Might as well spend the night in a tent and save the money.

I travel/work long hours during the week and finally get to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday. But on both days I was awakened by the consistent and repetitive sound of doors slamming against the metal lock that can be wedged to keep the door from closing. Instead of using a soft wedge or propping the door open with their carts (or some other method) the apathetic and inconsiderate house keeping staff just allows the door to slam against a metal frame with a metal door lock flipped open. The result is the sound of a hammer against metal along with the concussion of a door slamming. The carts are stocked with all the supplies necessary to replenish a room along with the laundry basket. So every time laundry or garbage goes out, or soap, tissue, coffee, cups, paper or anything is needed to go in… the door opens to get to the cart. The hammers drop throughout the cleaning of each room from around 9:00 to 11:00 each morning… including Saturday and Sunday!
Don’t think you will get to sleep in here if anyone checks out near your room. The lack of empathy or consideration is stunning and infuriating as it happens over and over.

Difficult to book conference venue it almost seemed as if they didn't want the business. 2 week training conference with 3 people staying at the hotel. General appearance of both the hotel and the staff attitude could be summed up at dingy, tired and lackadaisical!
House keeping is largely non-existent (on demand) and the hallways are daily clogged with the garbage from the extended stay guests.
Laundry rooms are filthy and 1 of 6 machine was working during our stay, except for 3 of the 14 days where the laundry room was closed for repairs .
The restaurant attached to the hotel couldn't figure out their opening hours, their menu or their staffing priorities. The final straw was having to wait 45 mins after the posted opening hour to have breakfast.
The management staff response to these concerns was to identify themselves as front desk staff, not responsible for the restaurant and apparently unconcerned about hotel services (or lack thereof) for the hotel guests.
I would not recommend this Hotel for overnight stays, family visits or business/professional venues.
I have recommended to my employer that this particular hotel be taken off our standing list of venues in the Virginia Beach area.

IHG is so stingy with their points it sucks. Just because we are CLC doesn't mean we don't deserve our points. I'm also a vet and a senior. The double rooms have no desk for business and unless you have a drop cord you aren't likely to be able to plug everything up. The sinks in every room are so shallow it's pathetic. Rooms with just a shower have terrible water pressure. The halls are very long and no one tells you a closer entrance for those like myself with breathing issues. Staff has been very nice and beds are comfortable but outside of that I have nothing good to say. Get a clue IHG!

Let me start by saying, I truly wish the appearance of the hotel matched the service that we received from the front desk staff.
A special thank you to Maria Brunner for being prompt and efficient in setting up the room block for us. From start to finish, I received great customer service especially from the young lady that checked us in as well as the gentleman with the locs that checked me out (I did not get their names). The staff answered questions and provided information on dining in the area.
The lobby area looks nice with exception of some light fixtures that are broken and some that have black electrical tape around them.
Now for the rest of our stay - the rooms are my number one complaint. The view was absolutely horrible, overlooking the eyesore of a swimming pool. They DO NOT look at all like the pictures posted online, there was a musty odor and they are not at all appealing. The furniture in our rooms was old and very worn. There was a huge hole behind the toilet with mildew and or rust around it. Counter tops are stained, the floor is in desperate need of update. The carpet looks disgusting and some parts are ripped.
The shower was nasty, mildew all around the exterior, tiles looked unclean and dingy. We chose not to use it and instead washed up in the sink.
As previously mentioned, the pool was closed for the season, however it should have been properly cleaned and covered. Instead there is stagnant water on one side that I believe is the hot tub, littered with trash and gives the appearance of sewer water with a dark green/brown color.
I received multiple complaints from members of my group to include: no ice availability, bad odor in the room, no blanket coverings for the sofabed, dirty towels and stains on the comforter, as well as the appearance of their room.
We decided to try out the onsite restaurant Ashley's, but wish that we would have went out to eat elsewhere. While the service again was great, the food left much to be desired. It took a long time, approximately an hour to get our food. My husband and I ordered burgers, they were dry and tough, you can tell they were not hand patted but frozen. The iced water and fries was the best thing about our meal.
The issue with the room not being represented accurately is a dealbreaker for me. It is very dishonest on the part of management, corporate or whoever is in charge of the website. This is a clear case of false advertisement. Upon checking out, I expressed my disappointment to the gentleman with the locs, he said that he understood my concerns and apologized. He also explained that the hotel is experiencing a renovation and the pictures online represent what the guest rooms WILL look like. With that being said, the website should state that there is a renovation taking place so that guests do not book with an unrealistic expectation of their guest room.
I felt the need to apologize to my group, since I was the organizer of the room block, although I have zero control over the experience that we had with your hotel.
Let me also point out that I have stayed in other IHG properties and never had this issue, this was the worse.
I do not recommend this hotel or the restaurant.
