Wonderful location however this ol' girl is in desperate need of repair. We've come upon the Crown many times although it has been years; it's sad to see the her in such disrepair. The beds were satisfactory our first night. I believe we were just so fatigued; the nights to follow told another tale. The staff was very cheery, Jerry and Barry were most accommodating and suggested very tasteful locations for dining. These gentlemen did mention that a renovation is underway. Severely understaffed, the same young lady whom I witnessed scouring the commodes and carrying rubbish was also working with food and beverage in the cafe and at the "bar". The cafe is poorly ventilated and the air is quite stiff. She was pleasant, a little boisterous for our liking, pleasant enough I suppose. I just was not so comfortable receiving beverages from the same attendant who polishes toilets and removes the rubbage. I'm sure she does well, it is just in these times one can never be too cautious. The poor thing shouldn't be the face of this establishment or any establishment that is hospitality. Again, pleasant enough however not one that should be amongst the welcoming. As a retired CADC, I can easily recognize someone in recovery and do applaud her as well as the others for making healthier life choices. I also applaud management for offering them a position in which to work. She was also in visible pain which also made it a bit uncomfortable. The staff was often seen outside smoking and at times did reek of cigarette smoke. We did smell the occasional marijuana. That may have been from guests and I do know it in now legalized in the Commonwealth. However, not what one wants to see or smell while trying to dine. I did request to speak to management, to no avail, of our concerns. She chose not to acknowledge our concerns so I bring my thoughts here. The hot water was quite tricky to work in the lavatory, there was also visible mildew. The spigots were also a bit loose. We had to purchase our own cleaning supplies just to feel comfortable bathing and going barefoot in the bath. Not to mention white socks did not stay white. Again, Jerry or Barry, whomever, I don't recall, did state that their was a planned renovation for this beautiful structure. Those gentleman were the highlight of our stay. That southern gal "PJ"from Greensboro, North Carolina has our heart too. Just adorable. What a lovely spirit. Southern hospitality at its finest I do declare. Wonderful to see the inclusion of other "communities" represented. We most certainly look forward to the changes upon our next visit as we do adore the location. It all just deeply saddens me that it's gone so far downhill. Many many years ago we've attended military balls and retirements here and we do cherish our memories. It's a new age I suppose. Best wishes. …
My plans changed unexpectedly, needing a hotel for a night. I'd driven by this hotel many times wondering what it was like. The price was modest, within my budget, so I booked. Let me tell you, I have traveled & stayed in many hotels. Never have I stayed where consistently EVERY employee was polite, professional and went out of their way to make sure you were comfortable & all your needs were met!! I stayed a second night! "Kay" at the front desk went out of her way twice to assist me! "PJ" in the lounge had a kind word for everyone! Breakfast delivery to my room was timely, fresh & delivered with smile & a kind word! I can't compliment enough about the customer service at this hotel! I will definitely be back!
The hotel itself is a little older, but it's beautiful. It was clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed for our 3 night stay! The breakfast from the restaurant (it was included with our room) was amazing! All of the staff was friendly and helpful, and Red and Aja go above and beyond in the dining room! Would definitely recommend this hotel!
My trip at The Crown was especially delightful this time because the twins were working. Barry was sweet enough to hook me up with extra spacious room on the top floor I felt like a princess and I am that they work so hard to accommodate your needs . Excellent job for this Hotel and the wait staff is superior.
My family was in town for the funeral of my sister. The Staff at this hotel was extremely accommodating to our needs. In the restaurant. Red was our waitress and Asia was the cook. I have eaten at many restaurants. I would rate the cooking and service as 5 star. Those at the front desk, Caylin, Barry and Garry also went out of their way to meet our needs. Michelle with special events opened the hotel to us making this necessary trip easier to bear. The hotel is getting ready to go through a renovation. When I go back to VA Beach to visit family. I will make it a point to go to the Crown Plaza for breakfast to enjoy the food and hospitality of Red and Asia
From checking in we had a delightful stay. The front desk Barry and Gary were so nice and attentive. Next day we had a lovely breakfast with our waitress Red! Definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again!
Our organization held our State session here and I just want to say that Bill and Red were absolutely amazing to us. From the first day to check out, they accommodated us in every way. If we come back in the future, we hope to see their faces
Top customer service skills by Nicholas. Always with kindness and assistance. I had to call for handicap assistance issues and he was a pleasure, spoke to me with dignity Will stay here again just because of his willingness to help. Goes above and beyond. Huge asset in todays world.
I am somewhat picky about Customer Service and it takes a lot to completely impress me. Terri, at this Virginia Beach location, has completely exceeded my expectations for Customer Service. She has assisted me a couple of different times this week with 6 reservations at your hotel. Each time, I can feel her smile through the phone. She has made me feel like I am the most important customer, provided everything I needed, even asking questions regarding the Credit Card Authorization which were regarding making sure "I" was protected-something I have never had a hotel take the time to ask me. I am completely and utterly blown away by her customer service. Your hotel information is now saved in my contacts for ANY future travel for me personally or for our workers in your area. Thank you for having such an exceptional person on your staff, who goes up and beyond for her guests. You are blessed to have such an amazing asset on your staff!…
I am an IHG Platinum Elite Member and made reservations at the Crown Plaza Virginia Beach for Tuesday, 13SEP22. The reservation was for a king room, on a low floor in a quiet area. We checked in later that evening to find out that they had given my room away and the only rooms remaining were those with two FULL SIZE beds on the HIGHEST floor (8th) and directly facing the interstate (NOISY trucks and motorcycles passing all night long). At check in, “Gary” on the front desk indicated he would gladly cancel my reservation if I didn't take the room but in doing so, I would lose all my points that I had used to make the reservation. Classic Catch-22. The 8th floor is designated as a "Quiet Floor" however guests in the adjacent room were up until 2am having a good time. At midnight, I called the front desk to request that they address this. The response was that they were busy and would get to it when they could. Nothing happened. I enjoy staying at IHG properties, but this was the second time I've had issues at a Crown Plaza property. Regretfully, never again will I stay at another.…
