As a HGV owner for years, this was one of the most disappointing resorts I've ever stayed at so far. When I first booked this trip, I had called to ask questions about the property and was told the 1 Bedroom ocean front suites were all similar layouts like the other properties I stayed at & was told there was a washing machine/dryer in the suites. To my disappointment, I get there to be disappointed about the size of the suites & no dryer/washer & NOWHERE near the suites I stayed at in all 3 Myrtle HGV locations as well as Orlando locations. All it was was a glorified regular hotel room with a tiny balcony viewing the ocean as I absolutely insist rooms at HILTON DOUBLE TREE HOTEL are even bigger. The rooms were so so outdated with stained carpets & very outdated furniture which the counters were all sticky & or dusty & the bed was just so uncomfortable. I tried changing rooms/upgrading at the VIP check-in place & was willing to pay the difference but was told no other rooms were available as half the hotel was going to be shut off with water Wednesday for maintenance work. Even the simplest things like the TV were even so outdated with small LCD panel types without any clear clarity & they couldn't even give more than one half used toilet paper roll that I had to request 2 diff times for few rolls for our 6 day stay. The only NICE thing about the room was the Jacuzzi bathtub as I did use it daily. DO NOT GET FOOLED by the pics on their website as its all angled and done so it makes it seem bigger than it really is. I truly am shocked such a high name brand ESPECIALLY in HGV considers this property one of their HGV locations. Trying not to let this ruin my vacation we made the best of it by enjoying all the local attractions as this was my first time in VA beach. The location is absolutely fantastic though as everything is basically walking distance and other tourist areas are a short drive. I got really annoyed as I asked if I can possibly just view the 2/3 bedroom suites to see the floor-plan layouts for possible future stays & was told that the only way to do that is to go through the time share presentation to do so which NEVER EVER is 1 hr (average 2-3hrs) as they claim as I've been through about 8-9 of them throughout the years & salesman/finance manager are always pushy & repeat the same thing no matter how many times you insist or say no. This specific location is a definite NEVER EVER stay again. I wouldn't mind trying out the other HGV locations they have on the same strip though as I did have a very good relaxing time during this trip. Also I find it very funny as normally when using the HGV website to check availability & room types for booking it usually shows you the square footage of the rooms but these ones are coincidentally blank.…
Great location! Great service! Nice rooms. Ability to share amenities with the Ocean Aire and use the 21 and older pool was a great bonus. Tortuga's tiki bar-and-grill provided great poolside drinks and food for relaxing during the day. Having the little kitchenette area was a bonus too! You won't be disappointed!
Check in was good. Got to room and bathroom sink had sand in it. Showed service desk and they took care of it right away. Said sometimes there is sand in drains causing backup. The sink faucet was slow flow and took forever to heat up. I had to run the shower to help get hot water in sink. The button to get the shower to work was real tight, I had to pull real hard to get shower to work. Bed was comfortable. Room was a little small, had a coffee table and 2 chairs. Not comfortable to sit in. I spent my time on the bed. There was no continental breakfast, no coffee pots down stairs. They did have a coffee pot in room. They provide parking which is a big plus. Parking can be crazy and expensive. Over all good stay.
The Bad/Annoying: We had booked this weekend to celebrate my mother-in-law's 70th birthday. Both her kids and all he grandkids were there. We were very excited to stay at this HVC. We rented what I thought were two total rooms. One of the rooms was advertised as a 2-bedroom suite, with kitchen and living room. When we checked in, I found that it was actually two rooms, that were not connected. One room had a queen bedroom with the kitchen and living room, the other room was a standard queen bedroom. We were traveling with two kids (one only 4years old) and could not be split between two rooms with heavy doors that required keys to go back and forth. The Good: I contacted the front desk and was assisted immediately with professionalism and problem solving. We ended up with an amazing upgrade as there were no rooms the type we had thought we rented. She confirmed what we had rented and the website just nowhere mentions that these are separate rooms, which is unfortunate. Would very much recommend calling and not booking online here so you can ask what type of room you are actually getting. Once we were checked into our room for the weekend we had an amazing stay. Would stay again. Great indoor pool for kids, a nice Winter getaway. A clearer description on the website and this would be a 5-star review. …
We check 8n and pre paid fir our room 2bd 2 bath oceanfront. On room is not ocean front and the other the bathroom is so small where toilet is you hit your knees... Carpet pulling up. Phone's half work. Kitchen floor was nasty had to make them come clean it. Bad carpentry in bathrooms. For the price we paid not worth it.... When I complained nothing was offered no discount nothing... I have a disabled child that had issues with the toilet area as it was so small and awkward
The location was convenient and the one-bedroom with living room and kitchen worked well for our family of four. Some of the fixtures are showing their age. Walking distance to some good restaurants and an easy drive to local highlights. Flyovers from F-18s going to NAS Oceana were a nice bonus.
Just would like to share my experience from my stay in this hotel. I was pretty disappointed with this hotel. The bed mattress and pillows are in poor quality. When I sat on the bed I could hear some noise from the mattress. On my first night, I used one pillow. In the next morning, I could not stand up because of dizziness. The pillow was too low for me. It took a half day to get recovered from the dizziness. I could not sleep well during my stay in the hotel. The air conditioner was making noise all night. There was no cleaning at all during my stay for three nights, no resupply of shampoo, conditioner and coffee.
What I liked about this hotel. 1) You can use the amenities of the sister property next door. This meant that I could thankfully use the adults only pool and large and very hot (102 degrees) whirlpool spa. The indoor pool at the HGV Ocean Beach Club was constantly packed with children. 2) My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. 3) The kitchen was well equipped except for the dishwasher (more on that below) and the adjoining living area was very spacious. 4) The parking garage the hotel uses across the street had good security. 5) Self parking is included in the $25 resort fee. What I did not like: 1) There was no mention or thank you for me being a Diamond Member at check in. I did ask for and received two free bottles of water. 2) I know HGV properties do not offer free room upgrades to Diamond Members. However, it would have been nice to have had a room on a higher floor. Instead, my "ocean front" one bedroom suite was on the third floor. The living room had a balcony with a view of a narrow and dank alleyway between the two sister properties. My bedroom, however, did have an ocean front view with a balcony. 3) The dishwasher did not work. 4) The room was modern though strangely and cheaply constructed including the low cost kitchen appliances and cabinets. The three main light switches in the bathroom are completely hidden by a towel rack full of towels. Building maintenance had to tell me where to find them! 5) I am not sure why this hotel has a $25 resort fee. If it was not for the included self parking, it would be a total rip off. 6) Security at the hotel was very lax. The elevator had a slot for a room key which did not work. This meant that anyone off the street could use the elevator. Not that it mattered anyways since the indoor first floor stairwell door was always kept ajar. 7) The HVAC unit in the bedroom was incredibly noisy. Since it was so warm outside, I just shut it off for the two days. If you need to use it, make sure you bring ear plugs!…
