stayed here in november and though it is during the moonson season, it is still ok to visit and do some activities here on the island. theres positive and negative side of this resorts, lets starts with positive : nice resorts (though the rooms are quite badly maintain) despite that overall the resort has nice view, with a mini zoo ( which kids would love it) and the boat transfer was a mini ferry instead of a small speedboat.
negative : customer service is quite bad. i had to request many times for a simple yet very important item to be delivered to the room and had to call more than 4 times to keep reminding them and after a frustration period of 45 minutes, finally the item arrived. room were badly maintained though it is called a 'suite'. i paid RM2000 for 2 nights and i regret to say it is not worth it at all.
the seaview suite is right at the back portion of the island and it is isolated plus u have to walk and climb up the hill without having offered a buggy service by the resort. the suites which is located at the back of the island is far away from the lobby and theres isnt any security measurement and anyone could actually trespass the resort from the back area and incase of any emergency the front office wouldnt know as there is not even a security personnal assigned to guard around the island. for me security is very important as i travel with 4 young children.

overall i didnt quite like this place and if u are travelling with young kids dont think or plan of coming here during weekend or public holidays as the resort can get very pack and stuffy..
the bathroom full with fungus and bad smell.
for the price we paid, im certainly would say its way to much for such a resort. ive been to other resorts in most of the island in malaysia and i would say this resorts is quite badly managed,

Had booked for a week for party of 4 in family room but had to cut short by two days due to string of disasters, 2 days were eventually refunded, at least. 1. Main restaurant had burned down, rubble piled up after months next to pool. 2. Sunset bar was turned into restaurant, served only Asian food (only Chinese until we requested variations, which brought out the Malay food talent in the helpful cook). Room was big though simple, toilets flooded in 1st night, could not get fixed and earned us eventually a 2nd room, for toilet use only (after I took VIP toilet hostage), all possible as we were the only guest for a few days in the resort. 4. Service reduced to minimal as we were the only guests, that changed when all sprung to life for big corporate group coming with crowning part a 3hrs fogging area during which we were banned with wet swimsuits to the pier past sunset only to have the fumes blown into the room when trying to air it, killing fields in Sibu, I shouted so much I lost my voice for 2 days. 5. Greatly advertised waterfall excursion went over semi-collapsed bridge to dried up swampy hole up an impressive hill. 6. Bech infested with sand fleas (general problem at this part of Malaysia), got better after killing fields continued next morrning. 7. Resort manager tried to apologise but after every disaster followed an even bigger one. 8. Snorkeling excursions were only highlight and hinted at how superb, beautiful and worthwhile this resort could be if only properly managed. 9. Return trip in speed boat during menacing thunderstorm (how fitting) and high waves but safely and responsibly steered so not all was bad but most of it. Will not return unless a lot happens, what a shame.

We are a family of 4. We stayed in the Layang-Layang Suite for 3 nights in June 2013. Transfer from Tanjung Leman Jetty to Sibu Island was smooth and efficient, perhaps because it was a week-day and off-peak. Check-in was smooth (perhaps for the same reason) and we were given our room keys at on check-in at around noon despite the official 3 pm check-in time.

The rooms were comfortable if somewhat tired looking. Bathroom was clean and showers, toilets and taps worked reasonably well.

The resort is extremely spacious. A big plus for our boys( aged 11 and 8) were the many free-ranging deer, peacocks, chickens, a very regal-looking tom-turkey and cute little baby goats. The boys had a great time foraging for leaves plants and other tidbits for the animals.

The pool was small, but reasonably fun for the kids. The biggest turn-off is the disused pool-bar which was not just empty. It contained a several centimetres inches of bilious green slimy looking water. It was revolting.

Service standards are Fawlty Towers-que. It would be extremely funny as long as it happened to someone else. We searched in vain at the Towel Kiosk for someone to pass us the beach towels. After 15 minutes of searching, we eventually tumbled on the fact that you had to get towels from the Activity Desk. It gets even better. The following day, we brought our used beach towels to exchange for fresh ones. We were told by the person at the Activity Desk that we had to dry them first before returning the towels, and in any case, we were to be issued beach towels only once per stay. Perhaps the hotel expects guests to launder all towels before returning them or exchanging them for fresh ones! It was only after some protests that the person agreed to give us fresh towels ... along with free dirty looks and mutters.

Service at the restaurant was slow and inconsistent. The staff were polite, but not friendly. They showed very little warmth, and seemed to think that saying "thank you" was the height of service excellence. The restaurant was swarming with flies. Something which the staff took absolutely no notice of. The resort does not serve alcohol.

House-keeping was kept at the barest minimum. Daily house-keeping seemed to consist of making the beds and taking out the trash. In the 4 days that we were there, the house-keepers did not trouble themselves with replenishing toilet-paper, toiletries, coffee and tea bags or water. Again perhaps the hotel has a single-issue policy, like their beach towels. To be fair, though, these things were replenished quite quickly when we requested. It's just comical that we had to request for re-supply of everything. Less funny when we realised that we were paying international hotel prices.

The beaches were quite nice, and generally uncrowded. But there again, this hotel chooses to distinguish itself. There were absolutely no deck chairs except on their most popular beach, Coral garden, which had 2 chairs. There are no facilities to shower off the salt water, nor anyone to serve drinks or snacks at the beach. The Management philosophy seems to be - you have the sea, you have the sand, you don't need anything else.

Our opinion - not a bad place, if you have no where else to go, and if you enjoy being surprised by "unusual" service standards.

Excited for my long weekend I booked a stay at this resort over CNY only to be extremely disappointed by the lack of communication regarding facilities marketed on the website as available. The ferry was late departing, no water to shower on our first night, recreation room with pool table was under restoration, Spa treatment facilities are no longer available, no wifi and no pool bar or any alcohol serviced at the resort.
I was made to pay 100% online before arriving to the island. For the amount of facilities that were unavailable yet advertised and promoted on the website that it was dishonest to make a customer make the full payment.
I travel every 8 weeks and the lack of hospitality of this resort was disappointing. I communicated this with the manger of the resort and placed a written complaint. At the time they seemed to see my point of view and sympathetically granted a written refund for 3 of the 4 nights stay as my friend and I left Sibu Island Resort after one nights to stay at the beautiful Rimba Resort, where the hospitality was delightful and professional and facilities were available.
Payment was to be refunded into my account within 14 days, this was in February! We are now in April and I have have not received a cent! I was hesitate to write a review but I am receiving no response to my emails and would hate this to happen to others.
Disappointing, dishonest and unprofessional....don't stay here!

I went to the resort with my family (my husband and my two very young children, the oldest aged 3 and the youngest aged 1). I went through Sun & Sand Holiday Pte Ltd ("the travel agent") to book my accomodation. From the start, we liase through email in fact the very same email address which I'm using now. As they were fully aware that we were Singaporeans, amount quoted was in RM and also S$.

The first time I stepped into the resort, I didn't have a good feeling because the surrounding was too quiet unlike other islands where the staff have this smiley face on them and always greeting us. Putting aside all those negative feelings, we tried to make do with what the resort can offer us. The food was good and to our liking especially the mee goreng and also the BBQ buffet held on the Saturday, but too bad the incident that took place will deter us from coming back to the resort!

One of the downside of the resort is the generator problem where power supply would be cut for a solid one hour duration from 4-5 pm. Mind you, this doesn’t happen in any other island-resort! I was appalled! It was not once the power was cut off from my room but several times in fact! It was already a warm and sunny day, add on to the power failure, my children were bawling and throwing tantrums. It turned out to be such a horrid holiday experience! We called the customer service and told them it was unbecoming of a resort to be having frequent power failures. They did not offer any help nor offered any kind of remedy to pacify us their customers/visitors! We (husband and myself) discussed this incident through out the night and decided to highlight it to the manager on the day we check out.

On the day we checked out, we told the front desk that we would like to see the duty manager. A Mr Subash came to us and introduce himself as the duty manager. Subash told us it was the resort's policy not to compensate in any kind and any way to visitors/tourist/customers that are staying in the resort. He (Subash) also mentioned that he was willing to apologise but the technical problem (power failure) was beyond his and the resort's control.

I reiterate, this so called technical problem doesn’t happen to other resort/island. My husband told Subash that it was like staying in a training camp with no power supply and if this was the case, we might as well stay in a camp-site. Subash got angry and since there weren't any other issue he could raised, he threw this accusation at us, and I quote "I've got the right to stop you from leaving this resort since I've notice you took up a cheaper package that is not meant for Singaporeans". Is Subash insinuating that since we have paid a cheap price, in which I deny, we should grit our teeth and bear with it all? For your info, I feedback this incident to a collegue of mine whom actually recommended this resort, she told me 3 years ago, she too experienced the so called technical problem (power failure). So I guess this technical problem had been happening for many years and nothing had been done??!!!

We were speechless. This statement/threat coming from a resort manager! Even if we had taken up the wrong package in which WE DENY, Subash CANNOT TAKE UP this issue directly with us because never once did I liase with Sibu Island Resort directly as I've used a travel agent to do the necessary bookings. Subash should have discussed with our travel agent that is Sun & Sand Holiday and not took it up on us and if there is a mistake regarding the pricing and quotation, Sibu Island Resort should have stop us from entering and staying at the resort from the very first day or settle the matter on the day when we checked in to the resort.

my worst experience staying in a resort some more the price is not cheap! the island is beautiful and the nature is nice with deers and peacocks all around. it should be an amazing island! If...

IF only the resort can improve their house keeping and services! the 1st day we arrived the resort with expectations however most disappointed resort ever! i don't mind if the resort is old but please be clean! imagine the bed with yellow stains and the towels full of yellow and black marks. imagine the bedroom with "Twisties" leftover packaging from the 1st day we checked-in till the 3rd days we checked out without clearing out by the house keeping. imagine the house keepers eating apples doing house keeping with their hands omg! we requested to change the bedsheet and all the pillow cases on the 1st day as it is too dirty and you can see alot of hairs on the pillow but they just changed the bedsheet and told us the pillow cases only can be change the next day during the house keeping and they put the blanket on the dirty floor while changing the bedsheet and do not change the blanket cover before set up the bed *speechless*

we called to the front desk three times but only received our request for only one time like we went out for some activities and met the house keeper passing us the hair dryer in the middle of the road after half an hour . 1. Safety box spoiled once we checked-in 2. no hair dryer 3. no water refill on the 2nd day house keeping

please improve your service and keep clean if you do not want to spend money on the maintenance! totally not worth for money! the resort can be way more amazing if you have improved the house keeping and the cleanliness.

Sibu Island Resort
The distance and relatively remote location  is the secret to the exclusiveness and unique features of this resort. From the road trip leading to the Leman Cape jetty where it is unexpectedly a very nicely architectured building with a safe parking area to the short ferry ride to the island makes the first good impression.
Upon arrival the white sandy beaches and lush greenery welcomes you until you reach the doorstep to some juice & singing welcome! Checking in is smooth and your bags are sent to the doorstep of your room already.
We stayed in the Serindit suite which was a beautiful chalet with a large room & living room. The bathroom is modern and clean. Amenities is complete & most importantly...wi-fi is free! There is no other food outlet it is advisable to pay for full boarding inclusive of main meals for your stay. The food is tasty with enough variety for each meal.
Service is good & polite...on request of extra towels, plates & cutlery was prompt.
Minor repairs dealt immediately..especially when we accidentally blocked our bathroom sink!

The whole resort complex is very well spaced & vast. The beach is beautiful with clean sands and facing west is exhilaratingly a sight not to be missed during sunset. This resort is a perfect getaway for families, honeymooners, photography buffs & even if you want to be alone...
The freely roaming & tame peacocks, deers, goats and rabbits plus the chickens & turkey in the facility is welcoming to see and also enjoyed by the kids.
The other 'team building' facilities is fantastic & 'flying fox' is complimentary at 10.30am everyday!
As I write this, many events occured today which shows the excellent attitude & sensitivity of the resort staff to it's patrons.
It rained heavily suddenly in the late afternoon while we were at the beach & while my wife & I were struggling soaking inthe rain with our kids, resort staff came to the rescue with dry towels and umbrellas for us! How thoughtful and examplary!
And inthe evening, in the haste of going for dinner, I accidentally closed the locked door behind me with my baby girl asleep alone, while my wife & son had already gone! I quickly called the reception with my mobile & told the attending staff Miss Haslina about the urgency of the situation...and she came running with the extra 2 minutes ( which I actually timed)...How not to be impressed and thankful to her & kudos to the management who groomed the staff.
And at the end of the buffet dinner, I asked if I could pack some rice & food for my kids to eat later (and  offering my own tupperware, being aware that some hotels do not allow this) and the lady manager of the restaurant not only said OK but even plastic wrapped in for us! How considerate!
There are other activities.. Snorkeling, sea cruise, jungle trekking & island hopping etc which can be enjoyed which we did not have time to do.
Staffing is good all round during arrival and departure & also during meals...always ready to attend and assist.
I would advice those driving to allocate ample time for the distance& traffic to the jetty. The road leading there is good and quite fun to drive on.
Definitely a resort to return to for a worthwhile holiday....Thank you! NZZ

I would like to share my poor experience of 3D2N stay at Sibu Island Resort on 24-26 Mar 13 for my girlfriend birthday which fall on 26-Mar
We had a very unpleasant experience or can also rate this as my worse holiday experience ever

Transportation - Singpore to Tanjung Leman Jetty
We made arrangement through the resort for return transfer from Singapore-Tanjung Leman Jetty-Singapore that we were told to be a mini bus but end up we were put into a van that is smelly and uncomfortable, the air in the van is stale; half way to the jetty we were switched to another car that smell worse than the van with no air-condition, bear in mind the return transfer cost us RM200 for both person

Arrival greeting
We arrived the jetty early so waited for the ferry transfer to Sibu Island that depart 11:30am which was okay; when arriving at the resort we were greeted at the jetty, singers and welcome drinks at the front office; getting the room key was quick and easy but our room 1073 was difficult to find as the direction signage is not clear

Room 1073
The room is a disappointment not to mention the size
- the floor was sandy
- curtain is very dusty that I do not even dare to close the curtain worry the dust will fly all over;
- TV channels was bad, only FOX Channel & National Geographic Channel is clear, other channels in the list was totally not watchable
- I called front office to report the light on top of the sink is not working but it was not fix until I check out
- wallpaper around the sink was peeling
- and I found a used tower from previous guest at the back of bathroom door

Wifi signal was fair but we do not seem able to connect it until we check out even signal at the front desk area is strong
Lucky we did not bring out laptop to watch online movies

There is also 1 hour power shut down twice a day for both days when I was there, which they claim to have problem with generator overload
Every few hours there is a power trip throughout the resort so we have to switch on the air-con each time this happen, this happens both nights and I have to wake up atleast 4 time each night just to switch on the air-con, I suppose to catch up with my sleep during my holiday since I also work as a hotelier on rotating shift but this holiday makes my sleeping disorder worse

Water supply
Water pressure was very low especially the sink, and they shut down water supply at night (not sure from what time) to 6am
My first night wanted to take shower about 11pm and found there was no water, I called front office to report the issue and realized they intentionally shut down the supply due to some reason, I inform them I need to take shower but the guy who answer my call ask me to wait till morning 6am, so I can only use the toilet without flushing

Our package comes with fullboard buffet meals, it was very basic and taste horrible, our first night we ordered additional ala carte order since the buffet food does not suite our pallet, we ordered penang char koew teow and satay, the penang char koew teow was soggy and the texture is like baby food, the satay did not come after half an hour and realized they send to wrong table after we ask them to follow up our order, so we cancel it, potential revenue gone
Being over 15 years in F&B department ourselves we both noticed many minor problems in the F&B operation which can be improve through training
Perhaps you may want to consider replacing the 3 piece band, they are out of tune and forgot song lyrics; a young western couple was laughing their way through their dinner

Transportation - Tanjung Leman Jetty to Singapore
The night before we depart I stop by front desk after dinner to inform that we will be leaving next day morning 10am ferry as we do not wish to stay any longer with all the bad experience, I requested for proper arrangement for return transportation
On the returning day when we arrive Tanjung Leman jetty, the girl at the Sibu Island counter ask us to wait for awhile and we waited for almost 30 minutes but our transport never arrive; I spoke to her again then she call Sibu Island front desk and a girl over the phone told me I book for afternoon 2pm transport, I told her I had inform front desk the night before I book earliest transport and questioned her how could it be possible for me to check out front office 9:30am but book for 2pm transport, she manage to arrangement my transport soon after that

Resort Manager
During my stay there was a VIP came to Sibu Island for lunch and left after that, there was a guy seems to be the incharge person in the resort because he was having a walkie-talkie and supervising the staffs while the VIP is dining, the next day I also saw him having breakfast with the chef like having a discussion
Throughout my 3D2N stay I numerously asked to speak to resort manager after continuously going through unpleasant experience, but the front office staffs keep telling me the resort manager is not in property, and nobody get back to me even until in check out

The only plus point for the resort is the nature, this island has a nice and peaceful surrounding, having the animals running around the resort and interact with visitors impromptu bring us closer to nature;
The resort should take care of the beach condition as I notice there are some rubbish in the water while snorkeling at beach 2

Mother nature provided free and we are pleased with what was presented, however we paid a full amount for other services but it does not meet our basic expectation
Hope the management are taking necessary steps to improve the situation for the sake of future patrons

We were looking for Malaysian Island getaway from Singapore. Sibu looked OK. It's not the first time we have done this so we had very realistic expectations.
We left Singapore on the day of public holiday, arrived at check point at around 7am and spent only around 40 min. total at the border crossing. To get to Tanjung Leman Jetty was easy and quick, we got there far before scheduled ferry at 11:30am.
Ferry took 25min. only. Check in was OK, quite quick.

The hotel area is nice. Big green space, lots of animals around - deer included. Beaches are nice, clean, sea was good as well.

We were staying at Serindit suite (1092), at the top of the hill, with a nice view. The room was quite spacious, with the small balcony with sitting area. The room had a lounge, bedroom, tea, coffee, TV, hair dryer and good air-con.
Bed was nicely set and clean, but the rest of the room was very dirty. Towels were dirty too! I had to clean bathroom by myself!
Toilet was leaking and safe box was not working. After some discussions about the safe box, which could not be repaired, we were happy to be moved to honey-moon suite next door (1094). This was much better. But, I still had to clean bathroom myself!
We have opted for full board as there is nowhere near by to eat. Food was just disgusting. Very poor quality. None of the staff in restaurant seemed to want to be there. Just odd service - if you can call it service!
We spent 2 days diving. Another odd experience. It was like the dive master did not want to be there either. He did everything possible to discourage us from diving! We knew that the visibility in this area is not so good and that the diving is not so exciting, still we were qite happy to do. The dive master did not even want to see our qualification. He was not interested in diving and our feeling was that we went under water and swam only!

What is very sad is that with just a bit of attention this could easily be a pleasant resort. We were happy to leave and we won't come back.
Although, family with small children, if you can manage the above, you may have fun with the beaches and animals!
