I've stayed here with my family several times on the way to the Outer Banks and always have a wonderful experience. From the Front Desk to Housekeeping, the staff seems to remember who we are (our kids can be pretty difficult) and they go out of their way to accommodate us. The pool is great! It does get kinda crowded during the weekend though. We were surprised to find out the ducks were no longer at the hotel. We did see some geese around the pond which was nice. Breakfast is Covid friendly. Definitely much better than other hotels that either have nothing or a bottled water and granola bar. This past trip they had a full breakfast served rather than buffet on the weekend which was even better. We will be back soon.

I had booked this hotel as they have on their webiste that they are practicing covid measures. Per virginia state guidelines : "All Virginians must continue to comply with the statewide face covering requirement in indoor public spaces, and Virginians are strongly encouraged to: continue teleworking if possible; wash hands regularly; maintain six feet of physical distance when outside of home". This hotel does not abide by VA recommendations and governor's orders. Staff at the front desk, cleaning crew, and a women serving meals DID NOT HAVE their mask. The manager's response was ridiculous, saying that their are staff who have medical restrictions. That is why there are shields. I would never stay here again and do not recommend this to anyone who cares for their health.

I was refused food service at the Holiday Inn North in Williamsburg apparently because I don’t look like the person providing the service. In 2021 I the US this is unacceptable. In the time of a worldwide pandemic the plates are prepped rather than self-serve. While politely maintaining social distance, I was continuing cut in front of by diverse groups of people who share a common cultural trait. Lines are not for me. When I finally got my turn, I was rudely refused service for the single item I requested and was basically told to “get it myself”. The food item was blocked off and not available to me. I am a so-called “preferred” customer as part of a loyalty program. This is a continued pattern of behavior that is going to need to cease. In tense times in our nation emotions are stirred up. In a customer service sector it is never a good idea to bring your personal desires to the workplace and represent your personal prejudices in the name of a long-standing corporate brand.

I am disappointed that you felt marginalized by our staff due to nationality or race. Of the 14 employees in our hotel, our diversity spans 6 different races and several more nationalities. Of which, this topic is never even a second thought as we are a very close family and everyone has been employed here 2 or more years. We are humbled to host families, couples, sports teams, special occasions, and various other groups that repeatedly, year over year, return due to the hospitality and the cleanliness of our hotel. For a tourist area, we uniquely have almost a third of our hotel occupied by long term guests that call us home. Our list of awards and accomplishments are just a glimpse of what makes our hotel special but nothing is more apparent, that we would not be who we are, if not for the staff. Perception is reality however I can tell you, your experience in this matter is neither our intent nor factual. As we make our way through the constantly changing racial and health environment, we encounter many obstacles in pleasing each and every guest. In this instance it appears we failed. Our staff has nothing but love for each other as well as each and every guest regardless of where you are from or what your racial profile. I’m sorry that you felt this way. This is not who we are.

I decided to stay here with my family, including two elementary school kids, for our first hotel stay since COVID started. We have been very careful about COVID, but felt that since Williamsburg is an outdoor friendly town, and since masks are mandated indoors in Virginia, that we would feel comfortable just walking through the lobby in the morning and evening. Unfortunately, we were wrong. We saw at least three different employees either not wearing masks properly (below nose) or not at all. We asked the front desk attendant to please ask employees to wear masks, and we were assured that they are mandatory for staff. Later that day, masks were on, but the next day, no masks again. One employee even invited us to share an elevator with them with no mask on at all. We declined. The pool (the entire reason that we booked this hotel) was extremely cloudy, and we were unable to see the bottom. There were also guests in there seated around a table not wearing masks. The door to the pool clearly states that masks should be worn unless you are in the water, and I'd confirmed it with the front desk before I booked. So, we did not feel comfortable bringing our children in there to play. Breakfast was very convenient and easy. They gave us a slip of paper to fill out the night before for the next morning, and then there was a bag ready for each person at the correct time. We only got it for the first morning, but maybe we needed to wait in line at the desk to get more slips for the second morning. It was easy to fill out, and my kids were thrilled with the bags of pancakes that we microwaved in the room. Bagels and english muffin sandwiches were good too. The employee at the breakfast area was very helpful and was properly wearing a mask. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable, and we did not hear any doors slamming or noise from other guests which was very nice. I think that this hotel would be a perfectly fine place to stay as it's right off the highway and near a hospital, if they could impress on the employees the importance of masks while they are mandated inside all buildings. It was a little far from all of the touristy things, but I was looking for a place that would not be crowded. Most of the other hotels I checked were fully booked for the dates I wanted. We visited other sites in the area (Yorktown Revolutionary War Museum, Jamestown Settlement), and I'd say that mask compliance was 100% there. Most people were even wearing masks outdoors at Colonial Williamsburg.

I am sorry that you observed any of our staff not wearing a mask. There is a time and a place when it should be on and certainly in the presence of guests it should. We take all of the precautions recommended but apparently not everyone was in compliance. At no time to we allow the pool to be open if you cannot see the drains at the bottom of the pool. We have had large numbers of families the past week utilizing it and sometimes it can get slightly cloudy as a result but we do make sure the chemicals are correct and that you can see the drains at all times. Although the state mandates have changed several times, we maintain 75% occupancy as the sign states before entering the pool area. Masks are only required on the pool deck if guests cannot maintain 6 feet of distance. The tables are 10 feet from each other and in compliance with state recommendations. There are also chairs lined up along the side that can easily be moved to accommodate guests not at the tables. I'm happy to hear that you were satisfied with our breakfast. Again, we try to stay within the recommendations of the state and brand and on this occasion, we were successful. We try to provide as many choices as possible under the circumstances while maintaining convenience to the guests. We are thankful that we are off the beaten path but close to everything as well as being conveniently located close to the highway.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and we appreciated the cleanliness and Covid safety precautions that had been implemented due to the covid pandemic. The grab n go breakfast bag was very good and much appreciated. Also, the swimming pool was very nice and warm for us to enjoy.
