The host is doing a fine job. The location is superb. I took a sunrise photo from my bedroom window which has award quality. The room we had was wonderful and the breakfast is outstanding. Again: great place!

We stayed an extra night. Dawns over Puget Sound and the Cascades were lovely. Gail and Jim are great innkeepers and serve a terrific breakfast. Wooden Boats of all sizes and good restaurants nearby. Arrive by car, bike, or boat.

This was our 4th time staying at the Commander's Beach House. This time our family of 9 took over the entire house. Ages 6 to 86! Great location, great hosts, Jim & Gail, great BnB, clean, comfy, right on the water and close to Fort Warden, Chetzemoka Park and Port Townsend. Jim and Gail made us feel as if this...

Great location with all of downtown PT within walking distance. The owners are fabulous and really made us feel welcome. Always attentive but not hovering. Breakfast is gourmet but probably not enough for a big eater - they were perfect for us. The beach is just a few steps away, the views gorgeous and the rooms generous in size. The...

So I'm a cyclist that is doing a trip from Alaska to Panama and while cycling through Port Townsend, Joe, the owner of The Commander's Beach House, is noticing me and say's: 'You need a place to stay?' Yes: I replied. I could pitch my tent in there garden and was invited to Jim's birthday party. I could eat there...

This historic house is right on the beach, in easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hosts, Jim and Gail were wonderful, and breakfast was delicious. The room and bed were both comfortable.

We return again and again to this lovely spot, and that should say it all. Of the many lodgings in Port Townsend, this is far and away our favorite. As I've said before, the setting is perfect, sitting beside the water, within walking distance of both downtown and uptown. The house itself is very comfortable, with good beds and showers,...

The location is close to the marina and walking distance to downtown and shops. Views from Commanders Beach House are fantastic. The hosts are friendly and very helpful. We stayed in the Lighthouse suite and it was spacious. As you may expect in an old home, the walls are a little thin and we were careful to be quiet. All...

The best of this B&B are Gail and Jim themselves. What a lovely and wonderful couple always caring about their guests. We wish you all the best for the future and just stay as perfect as you are ... as the best B&B we know, but even more important as the very beautiful couple that you are! Birgit and Thomas

Beautiful house with fabulous views and close to historic downtown. The owners, Jim and Gail, were extremely accommodating. We arrived in pouring rain on motorcycles. They offered use of their dryer, use of their car to drive to dinner (which we declined), or a ride to dinner (which we happily accepted). I was most impressed with their thoughtfulness throughout. Happy...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Commander's Beach House is the only bed and breakfast that is located right on the water in downtown Port Townsend. You can walk on the beach to Fort Worden or easily stroll three blocks along the water front to all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Three of our rooms face the water and have private baths. Our fourth room faces the garden and has a shared bath located inside of the room. You can enjoy views of Admiralty Inlet, Mt. Baker, Whidbey Island, all of the boats and ships that go into Seattle, as well as vintage wooden schooners and yawls. Eagles, herons, otters and seals are frequently seen by our guests. A full sit down gourmet breakfast is served at individual tables or on our veranda, weather permitting. Come fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the sea and "relax and solve nothing"! ... more   less
