Upon complaint, the front desk offered us a voucher for a free dessert and a free appetizer. When we complained further, they offered to credit us an additional $75.00. Additionally, they excused their poor service by saying they were understaffed. If the business can't live up to its commitments because it doesn't have enough staff, it should offer fewer rooms. Paying $1350+ for a room should result in excellent service every time!
The rooms are comfy, but could use a microwave to heat water for tea or to heat up leftovers from the restaurant. There is a mini fridge in the room to keep the leftovers, but no way to warm them up unfortunately.
Tasha in reservations was incredible, helping us select the perfect room on the fourth floor with picturesque views. She went above and beyond, arranging an anniversary card and a bottle of champagne to welcome us, which made the stay feel uniquely personal.
The fire pit outside was fantastic and added a cozy touch to our evening. Dining staff were also attentive and receptive—special thanks to John at dinner and Shannon at breakfast. Although my prime rib arrived cold, John promptly made it right by offering a complimentary dessert, which was delicious.
Our night, however, was less restful than we hoped. The family in the neighboring room had young children who were up late, screaming until 11 p.m., and again at 6 a.m., disrupting our sleep. After breakfast, which we enjoyed and finished around 10:50 a.m., we asked the front desk for a late checkout until noon, hoping for a little extra time to unwind and shower.
This is where things took a disappointing turn. April, the supervisor at the front desk, declined our request, saying the room was fully booked and offering to send a bellhop to help us pack—a gesture that felt dismissive and missed the point. Despite explaining that we hadn’t slept well due to the noise and mentioning we had spent over $630 in less than 24 hours, we were told to vacate within half an hour. Elaina, another staff member, seemed sympathetic, but the response from April left a sour note on an otherwise enjoyable stay.
The Skamania Lodge is a beautiful place with exceptional staff like Tasha, John, and Shannon. However, a little more empathy and flexibility at the front desk would have greatly enhanced our experience, especially after a restless night.
The windows are exceptionally clear and let in plenty of light, which not only enables you to truly appreciate the lack of dusting that has been performed, but may also give your neighbors (which are plentiful) a view into your situation!
Also, if housekeeping shows up at 10ish in the morning, don't turn them away as they will not return. Even if you request a turndown service, this does not include the emptying of the couple of extremely small trash cans and they will simply balance chocolates delicately on your door handle so they will fall and you get to pick them up off the ground. While this may be resolvable by calling the front desk, our calls weren't answered.
The lodge is lovely but, if it is a busy time, getting into the lounge and restaurant may be tricky and the common areas for hanging out are undersized relative to how many guests may be wanting to take advantage of them.
The winter light walk looked good for the sections that were turned on/working...
Wine package is not advised, save the money and enjoy the wineries that aren't that far from the lodge. The snacks were nice but the wine does not justify the costs.
The former brunch used to be fantastic and now is such a disappointment. Menu is extremely limited and service was very slow.
There was no housekeeping service (stayed 2 nights, 3 days).
EV charging was $4 per hour for 6kw (very slow) charging (used to be free 11kw Tesla destination chargers).
A $34 per night amenity fee provided “free parking” and coffee in the morning, things best western provides included in a $100 room charge.
Internet service was off and on, and super slow when it worked.
Used to enjoy going to Skamania but don’t need to go back again.
Oh, a plus, when I complained at checkout about the $74 of extra charges for the “breakfast included” breakfast, they removed the $68 “amenities” fee.
I was absolutely blown away that in a place like Skamania Lodge, it was impossible to get sheets at 12:30am. My husband and I spent that night using towels as bedding, which was insane considering we paid over $300 for that night sleeping with towels.
We talked to the manager the next morning who was extremely apologetic, and refunded us half the nightly rate. However, that night sleeping with towels had to be one of the worst nights I’ve ever spent in a hotel/motel, and I’ve stayed at some seedy places in my life. I don’t think I would ever come back.
Room - EXTRMEMLY run down, not updated whatsoever. For an upgraded, more expensive river view room don’t expect jacuzzi tubs, stocked with robes, or updated tv selections. Our fireplace had a draft the entire time so it was loud and didn’t stay on for long periods of times (30 min). The bathroom doesn’t even have a fan so every time you shower expect to be in a steam room right after. Lastly, the room wasn't even clean. There was a sticky, weird substance on the table, food underneath the couch. Likely wasn’t even vacuumed.
Restaurant/Bar - servers highly inattentive. Had to ask our server for our own water 10 minutes into sitting down (everyone else around us had waters and were being helped). We had dinner reservations one night at 8:00pm. Wasn’t even seated until 8:30 because we were mistaken for another couple that was said to be on a honeymoon. (We were not that couple). Asked for medium rare prime rib .. the outside wasn’t even seared. It literally looked like a pink, rare slab of meat thrown on the plate.
Resort - cant get coffee anywhere besides the restaurant and they have off brand instant coffee in the rooms. Don’t expect a good cup of coffee while you stay.
You are charged $29 a night for an amenity fee.. but for what amenities? The pool and hot tub? Because the room certainly didn’t have any.
If you are going to call yourselves a resort and charge guests $650 a night, $750 after all the fees you charge, then you should really think about updating your rooms, stock your rooms, clean your rooms, and hire staff that are friendly and attentive.
I’ve had a much better experience at Best Western for $150 a night, where I can find a jacuzzi tub, robes stocked in my closet, a clean room, and god, even fresh cookies in the lobby. There wasn’t even a place to get a midnight snack so if you are craving a bag of chips or a coke at 10pm, you’ll have to wait the next day cus gift shop closes at 8pm and you’ll have to drive to the chevron 8 minutes down the road.
We are unsure if the reason we were treated so poorly is because we look young as we were the only couple around that were in their 20s. But if that played a role, please ensure your staff treats all your guests as equal. I am saying this because everyone around us were always being helped and we were not.
Won’t be back, sadly.
