First trip to Smoke Hole Resort and we didn’t know what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the cabin clean and well appointed. The grounds were immaculate. The view of the water and mountains from the cabin was amazing! It snowed quite a bit during our stay, but the streets and walkways remained cleared and salted. The staff was great and the gift shop is well worth a visit. “Poor Dave’s” is a great local restaurant too! The drive from Smoke Hole Resort to Canaan Valley Ski Resort is scenic and enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Delighted to find our sweetheart cabin after a hard day's drive to install grandson as a counselor at Hidden Meadow's winter camp. We'd seen what seemed to be an illuminated chalet on the way down and hoped it would be our destination. Doubling back after drop-off, we were fatigued, eager to be off the road and delighted to find our hopes had been fulfilled. Inside was rustically charming. The heart-shaped Jacuzzi a great relief to tired legs, the fireplace a comfort and the bed good — tho soft. Glad we brought our own food for dinner and breakfast; more miles on the road were not in order.
The best Hotel we have ever stayed in. They have the cleanest room and the most friendliness staff. We will be staying with them every time we come to the area. You can not go wrong when staying in one of there rooms or renting a cabin.
Summation if you don't want to read the whole review: anyone booking a sweetheart cabin should call and make sure it's a single standing cabin! That truly made the difference for me rating this a generous 3 instead of a 5. It might be a great cabin to have if you're traveling with another couple. We got an e-mail well ahead of time letting us know our cabin would be off property, but was still a sweetheart cabin. No big deal. It was a weekend getaway with no kids, so being away from the property sounded even better! However, nobody mentioned the cabin was a "duplex" until we actually checked in. Still, fine. But, it's a shared porch, shared picnic table and shared grill. All still fine, because it was too cold to be outside anyway, but maybe could have been weird if it were nice outside and had to share. Still, not terrible. It was right on the road (so very noisy) and didn't have any areas to explore so that was a downside to being off property. The worst thing about it is, the walls are paper thin. Paper. Thin. Our neighbors the first night were quiet and talking at a normal level and we could still hear them. We could hear the TV as if we had our own turned on. We just turned ours on the same channel and dealt with it. It was an inconvenience, but still fine. Our neighbors the second night were not so quiet. They had the TV at theater level, late at night, and were talking over it, which made it difficult to sleep. Then at 7:30 the next morning they were playing their music as if they were in their own unattached home. It. Was. Loud. Neighbors made it completely unenjoyable. However, the room itself was perfect. It had everything we needed and we were very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed it while we didn't have neighbors. Staff was very friendly. None wore masks. They did have plexiglass up at the registers, but if you're uncomfortable with people not wearing masks, maybe hold off until things are back to normal.…
This place is amazing! You check in at this incredibly huge gift shop when you stay in one of the sweetheart cabins. When we walked into the cabin I fell immediately in love with it. So beautiful and cozy. I love the smell of a cabin that has a fireplace in it. It was so clean and immaculate. Loved the stream out back and watching the fish swim. Definitely recommend and going back real soon.
