When we got there the people, all 2 of them, were great. It had been closed a long time due to Covid BS and they had just opened. Only 3 rooms that night rented. BUT.... The place is rather old but VERY clean. Cleaner than a lot of fancier places. We don't watch tv so I don't know about that. Phone signal was normal for the mountains. The service was good, the food was fantastic at the Amelia Earhart Restaurant. We had 10 other family join us for breakfast and they had no problem feeding us. For just opening and only two people working, it was perfect for us. We will be back.
One of the most disappointed places I have staid. Nice and quite area in the middle of nowhere, which can be ok, but if you have a decent place to stay. This hotel should have been renovated 20 years ago, it smells old, looks old is simply far too old (horrible creaking beds). And then there is the service.... Waiting at reception this woman finally came, clearly not having a good day, no hello but more what do you want. We tried to make conversation but she complained being the only one there and that she did not understand how our room was charged, if at all, so we had to talk to somebody else in the morning. No explanation where our room was or anything else, again it was clear we were a nuisance. That she not had a good day was clear when we were in the room and opened the door to the patio (we were ground floor) as we heard her swearing with quite some F words having a go and somebody in her mind for using the cigarette bit as a normal bin.She should not be in this business that became clear. Not being impressed at all we certainly were not having breakfast or dinner here so escaped for some food in Davis. In the morning we left too early for anybody to arrive, we did not feel like a sleep in on these beds. One positive note although all looked old and therefore not very hygienic, the room was clean (with the exception if the horrible carpets). And no wifi in case you really need this...…
Windwood did great by us Presidents day weekend 2019. The Buffet breakfast and dinner for 21 of us was perfect. Plenty of food and accompdated a special request without issue. We will definitly be back next year.
Not exactly what we expected when hearing "resort." The motel is outdated and the amenities listed weren't all available in our room. The front desk people were very friendly, but the room had a musty smell. The beds were very firm and also smelled musty. There's a small TV with a few channels. The bathroom was very basic and did not provide conditioner. If you need an iron or hair dryer you'll have to go to the front desk. And if you need ice, also atthe front desk... But only from 730am to 9pm. The first night the wifi was unavailable. We appreciate them having availability, but we won't return until some updates are done.
You'll find everything you need after a long day of hiking in the mountains: hot shower, bed and food. Unless you're there Mon-Wed, and the restaurant is closed. I didn't like that they told me about it after I already booked. Also, the reception closes very early. Don't bother calling or stopping by after 2pm, nobody is there to help you. Other than that, I liked the place. Affordable and very peaceful.
A very nice place to stay. Good price, friendly staff (only one; checks you in and is the waitress for the whole restaurant!. Comfortable, well-appointed room. Only problem is that the internet is very spotty and the TV only gets five channels, all of them basic cable. Guess that's the price you pay for being in the mountains.
Loved the quaint atmosphere and excellent customer service. Rooms are not fancy, but the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast from the restaurant attached was extremely delicious. Would definitely stay again.
The hotel looks very cool from the outside. When we went to our room, I think that there could be a lot of improvement. The biggest problem was the stains on the carpet. The carpets should probably be replaced. The was one package of coffee (although that was enough for two cups) and one packet of sugar and creamer. We got there after 9 p.m., so we had to wait until morning to get more. The people there were very nice. She gave me a couple more packages of coffee and I got some creamer from the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was great! It did take quite a while to get served after we ordered (over a half hour), but I'll give them a pass because the place was crowded. The views from the wrap-around deck were fantastic!
A view of the rooms takes you back into the 1980s. Our room was clean, but lacked amenities, not for the pampered set. The bathroom, however, had been remodeled with new fixtures. Overall, an adequate facility for the outdoors set, not those looking for 3 star comfort. The setting was outstanding.
So this motel is centrally located to Thomas-Davis, WV, Blackwater Falls State Park, Timberline and Canaan Valley state park ski resorts and Dolly Sods USDA National Recreation Area. These are all awesome attractions my wife and I love to visit year round! They also have a nice clean pool for guests although we didn't swim in it because it wasn't advertised as heated, and water never gets that warm high in the mountains in my experience. The propery itself is quaint, obviously quite old. The floors creek, the walls are thin, the carpeting is kind of gross and the TV's are small (didn't even turn it on, we come out here for outdoors activities mostly anyway). The beds: THEY ARE *actually* pretty comfortable. This is a big surprise to me because of everything else, but I am a picky sleeper. We have a memory foam at home and usually my back is inflamed after sleeping away from home unless it is a luxury property (which this is certainly not). The value/price: excellent. No damage in the bank at all. Very reasonable summer rates, although I am SURE their winter rates will be higher given their proximity to the ski resorts -- wouldn't it be neat to fly in and go skiing and fly back in the same day? The on-site restaurant is nice. We've only eaten breakfast there and it was good. Apparently quite popular for breakfast with locals or visitors of other properties/campers. Overall I would recommend this place for folks on a budget or who aren't looking for five star accommodations. Young couples, families, etc. The closest thing to "night life" in the area are Bluegrass, Folk and Jammy musicians that play at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, WV about 20 minutes away.…
