Chestnut Ridge Country Inn bed and breakfast lodging near Snowshoe Ski Resort, Cass scenic Railroad, Greenbrier River Trail and National Radio Observatory. We offer 5 large guestrooms with private baths and a cottage. We are family friendly and motorcycle friendly. We are within 6 miles of Greenbrier River Trail, National Radio Observatory and Cass Scenic Railway and 15 miles from Snowshoe Ski Resort.
The two of us biked south on the scenic Greenbrier River rail-to-trail conversion directly from this converted farm house, located a short distance from the Cass trailhead. We left after a nice breakfast, and arranged with our host to transport our vehicle to a stopping point 60 miles down the trail. We were given a box lunch, the car was waiting for us, and we were fed upon our return. What's not to like? Dunmore is a beautiful area in the Snoswhoe ski resort-area of West Virginia. Our ride took us through Marlinton with its terrific old hardware store, and our exit drive through Green Bank and an unexpectedly fantastic visit to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

1st impressions was not great. But always give things a chance.... As we pulled up to the house the yard was mowed, but grass was everywhere. It looked like hay laying in a field. Grounds were not kept very well. Walked into the front door and it was cramped, dark, dingy and stuffy. We were taken through the bottom level of the house. (very cramped, but nice floors) The house was clean. As we were going up the stairs,(which was beautiful) the wall paper was torn in several different places. There was no lock on the bedroom door. (weird) The room was so hot all night (no air whatsoever) We were told we could open the window, but them told all the things we could NOT do, while eyes were constantly on our grandchildren every time they moved. The head board on the bed was so…

Response from Chestnutridge2013, Owner at Chestnut Ridge Country Inn
Responded 29 Aug 2015
We're sorry for any guest that is not happy, but always ask that they tell us if there is a problem. Our pricing policy is clearly stated on our website and have not had any issues about it before. I dont believe this review is about the food or heat, as we could have made accommodations to help if they would ask, but they did not. We can only hope that this review reminds other guests to speak up when there is a problem. Larry & Paula

Larry and Paula made our stay perfect with restaurant suggestions and trail advice. Only three miles to the Trail and Larry even shuttles people if need be. We loved the quiet zone and gazing at the stars at night.

Chestnut Ridge Country Inn is a wonderful B&B tucked away in the small community of Dunmore in West Virginia but very close to larger towns and many activities such as Cass & Durbin Railways, Bear Town, the Greenbrier River Trail, Snowshoe Resort, and Greenbank Observatory. Larry and Paula were excellent hosts. The breakfast is outstanding and very filling. Paula is a wonderful cook. Both Paula and Larry were very knowledgeable about the area and its history. The rooms were large, clean, and well equipped. We hope to return there next year and hopefully will be able to enjoy some of Paula's soup that I read about. This was a very enjoyable stay with good talk, good food, and an all together good time. Thank you!!!

Chestnut Ridge was a wonderful place to come "home" to after a day of riding our motorcycle through the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. Larry and Paula are great hosts and made us feel right at home. Looking forward to returning in the near future

Paula and Larry are very accommodating. We were in the area for an event and they were so great to work around our schedule. Early morning coffee and a couple of dinners! 2nd visit, we will be back!!!

We decided to stay here as we made last minute plans to go skiing at nearby Showshoe. Must say that we found this place to be an excellent choice as compared to the over-pricey accommodations at the hill. Both Larry and Paula are excellent hosts and we loved their new addition "Bear" as part of the overall experience. We were travelling with our teenage daughter and the upstairs suite worked wonderfully. Overall, we will definitely be coming back and recommend Chestnut Ridge highly.

Larry and Paula Garretson welcomed me to their restored farm house in a Pastoral setting while attending and competing in the West Virginia Road Kill Cook Off. In spite of being busy all week with the preparations for the cook off. Larry welcomed me and allowed me to check in early. Even though this was my first time to stay here, within minutes I felt like old friends. They both went out of their way to make sure my stay was comfortable and relaxing. Larry provided a delightful gourmet breakfast allowing me an early departure to travel to Marlington for the Cook Off. This was my first time to compete in this event which has been featured on Andrew Zimmern's TV Show, "Bizarre Foods" and the Food Network. My first evening I arrived and met some of their returning guests…

We just returned to Charles Town after staying Friday-Saturday, August 22nd. I was pleasantly suprised to find a highly rated B&B near Cass. Everywhere else seemed to be lower rated. We arrived about 7pm from work and were immediately greeted by Paula and Larry, who promptly gave us the tour. The B&B is set in an 1890 farmhouse, so there are some things that you should expect: Smaller, but very clean rooms. If you want a larger room, get the one on the second floor. It also has it's own bathroom, which (I think, but am not sure) the other ones do not. The Inn has a wonderful common area with a chandelier and a fireplace. The house itself is quiet at night, but as is common with older houses, the floors creak. The dining area is small, but there is more than enough room for…
