We usually go to WISP Resort but wanted to try something different. The staff, security and locals did seem to offer a charming facade and the lake view is rather nice. However, this place was disgusting. I went to the pool and the water had a cloudy yellowish tinge cloudy. The room was dated. When we arrived my 3 year old son thought it was a doctors office. The floor in our room had spots and stains everywhere, the sheets had reddish brown stains on them and the there are years of crumbs, lint and who-knows-what-else behind everything. The site is creepy, run-down and in bad need of a paint job. At night I expected to be hunted by a masked psychopath. It is perfect place to shoot horror movies but not for a getaway. There was not much for my son to do so we went to the mini golf area and there are nails, splintered wood and pond size puddles everywhere. The stores are in the next state and the speed limit is 50 miles per hour in some places down dark and steep winding roads. I drove 25mph and the locals rode my bumper all the way. After seeing my wife’s disappointment for a while we spent time in Oakland and Deep Creek which is like the day to Alpine’s forever night.

I wish the property had a site that I could directly email so that someone in management would see my review as I believe that, from the employees we encountered, that they take great pride in the property; however, the changes needed are handled by owners/managers. First off, the grounds & lake are GORGEOUS! The pricing was awesome, though the buildings needed work. The property (where we stayed) was located directly across from the main lodge. It was rundown and looked NOTHING like the pictures on their site! As soon as you pull in you notice that just about every railing needs painted/repaired! Our room smelled very musty. The once green carpet is now a limey color with spots everywhere. There are still heavy bedspreads on the beds, and when I asked how often they were laundered I was told every 3-4 days - Eww - esp with everything going on now! There is a fridge & microwave that we did like having! We did try out the free mini golf (nice touch); however at 10 in the morning on a weekend it was littered with empty beer cans. Really, you don’t have team members walk the property amenities every morning, before guests use them??? That’s an industry standard. We felt bad for the dad who was there with his four boys. He was telling them “walk around that - don’t touch” And there was the remnants of a bench that was in no way safe to sit on (major liability). Honestly, I was very disappointed and will not return unless the property is upgraded. Minimal upgrades would make this place a 4-star visit. You have a gem of a property, I really hope you put some time & money into it for your guests, your employees, and for the home owners who have property there.

I’m not sure where the other people who gave this “resort” a good rating stayed because I did not have the same experience. I’ll start with, the grounds are beautiful and it could be a really nice place to stay. Maybe it once was but not anymore. We stayed at the hotel (more like a motel/barracks). The building is very neglected and the outside balcony structures are rotted and falling apart. Certainly not safe. It’s clearly old and in need of a serious rehab. The room was dirty. Particularly the floor. It didn’t appear to have been vacuumed and the stains warranted replacement. The bedding was basic. The bathroom sink was outside of the bathroom. I didn’t get pictures of that because I had seen enough. We had booked our stay for 4 days but checked out after 1 night. Lastly, the guard at the front gate was extremely rude and frankly didn’t know what he was doing.

I booked a reservation last year for the weekend. They accepted my money and didn't tell me until I arrived there that there were no rooms available. They left me stranded outside at midnight in the middle of West Virginia. Worst place ever!!!!

My family chose to stay here as the website looked like a peaceful place to stay a weekend getaway. First of all, to get to this place you have to drive on nasty potholed dirt roads along with gravel roads. Upon getting here we arrived at a guard shack, where I was told he didn't have my reservation and had to take my credit card information again despite me showing my confirmation. It was 10:00 at night and we were tired so I ended up doing it and had to correct it with the front desk in the morning. Inside the hall leading to our room, it smelled like heavy cigarette smoke. Once we got into our room it was severely outdated and felt gross. We were not impressed with our room and wanted to leave had it not been so far out in the middle of nowhere. The next day we had to drive almost 30 mins to find food accommodations since the restaurant does not serve breakfast. Also, let's not forget to mention the front desk staff leaves around 4-5 pm, how convenient. We were assured that the pool would have clean towels to use, only to find out there were none and the front desk was closed (we didn't want to use our clean shower towels), also it turned out there were 7 people down at the pool looking for clean towels. I went to the bar and asked for clean towels, not knowing where else to go. The girl at the bar was rude and told me it's not her job then proceeded to turn her back on me and comment on how I had a bad attitude. She also on a separate occasion told my husband that the bar is usually open until 1:00 AM but they are going to stop serving customers at 9 pm because they want to get out of there. Overall, we will not be coming back. This place has horrible service (lack of) and I would not call it a resort.
