This was my family's first vacation at White Lake. I think the secret of a perfect getaway here is knowing what to expect and plan accordingly. This is a magnificent place for families with young children. The beach is sandy and white and there are plenty of toys in the water. We were quite taken aback at our room's accommodations. We stayed in the Coral, an apartment style room with one bedroom. We found outdated and mismatched furniture and the paneled walls lent a rather depressing atmosphere. The bathroom showed rust and needed maintenance but everything functioned. Our room was surface clean but blankets and bedspreads were worn. One of the beds was slanted. Although there was a dishwasher, there was no soap to use in it. The next time, we will know to bring our own. We…

If you are looking for a step up above camping, this is a great place. The cabin/houses are very close to the beach. The sand and water front areas are kept clean. They have two giant floaties, a play set and a volleyball net in the water for children of all ages. The family has been going here for years and know other guests by name. If this will be your first time, come and make friends and within a day you to will be part of the family. The bar is a good time but you might want to bring your own instead of eating at the restaurant.

We have been having our annual golf outing at the White lake Golf resort since 1998. We had a ball once again. The staff was very friendly, courteous. There was a problem with the adjoining cabin's toilet when we first arrived ( we reserve 4 cabins when we go) but we reported it and it was fixed by the time we got off the golf course. Some of the furniture that you would sink into in the Happy Ours cabin has been replaced and our cabins were clean when we arrived. We have a bonfire on the beach and just sit back and talk and look at the stars. This is a place to escape from the pressures of everyday life with the quaint cabins and water activities. It is not a trip to Disneyland. Dr. Sara who tended bar while we were there deserves a raise. She was terrific.

We always have fun here, but that's because we're with family and friends. The restaurant needs a new cook, and this year about half a dozen of us got sick after we came home. I don't know if was just some virus going around, or lake bacteria. I wasn't happy with the dog dropping stools in the lake every morning, near where we were swimming.

My family has been coming to Scharenberg's off and on since the 1960's. When I married and had a family of my own, I made it a priority to return to the lake. We have stayed in the hotel, the Skipper, and the Sunburst. I have been thrilled to find the resort fundamentally unchanged since my childhood - which is part of the resort's charm. I have been pleased with some of the changes since PJ and Sara took over. They are slowly, but surely, renovating the cabins and the hotel. The dining room has fabulous food, and the family bbq is delicious and so much fun. My ten year old son looks forward to this trip all year long, and I am happy to pass some of these memories down to the next generation. The new cleaning crew seems to be working hard to please the guests, and the…

This has been our best vacation in Wisconsin. The rooms were very clean and updates to the resort are happening all the time. Staff was friendly and inviting. Great diningroom and bar. Beach and lake upkeep are exceptional!

We also stayed at the resort and our bathroom had black mold on the floor in the corners and under the sink, there was cobwebs all over like it hadn't been cleaned in months. And the screens did not fit good and the bugs got in. I didn't mind the holes in the furniture, but I expect a cabin to be clean for the amount of money we paid for it. We will not be back. The lake was great and the beach was nice, but if they don't do something about their accomodations, I definitely will not return.

Response from P3ac0ck, Manager at White Lake Beach Resort
Responded 9 Jul 2011
Greetings... I am the new manager of White Lake Beach Resort..I'd like to respond to this review. This guest stayed with us last August, 2010, and has not returned. Since then, we have hired a new full time head maid, doubled our cleaning crew, and replaced carpets and floors across half of the resort's properties. We recognized that there were some problems with our housekeeping crew last year, and we have aggressively sought to correct the problem this year. We have gotten nothing but GREAT feedback this year...you'll note any other review from this year is positive. Why this guest chose to wait until now to post this review, I do not know, but as the management here at white lake, I assure you that the the problems have been fixed!!

My family and I have been going to white lake for many many years now. Every year we look forward to it. It is a lovely beach, perfectly sized lake, and a great atmosphere for families (ages 1-90). There are always a lot of kids up there to play with and the resort is pet friendly, which is nice if you stay the full week like we do. It is true that the cabins are out dated but what could you except from a building that is 85 years old? They are cozy and have well equipped kitchens and bathrooms. And the majority of the cabins have a beach view. They are many activities that you can do through out the week also. Princeton, Rippon, and the Dell's are all within driving distance on a rainy day. Then, of course, there is the beach. The whole family will love the cook out, fish fry,…

Same as the girl below me, I also saw the negative comments recently posted on here, and decided that I had to set it right. I don't believe it is fair to give this place such a bad rap. I believe the negative posts before me have been posted out of misunderstanding. To really enjoy and love this place, you must first UNDERSTAND it! Scharenberg's is not supposed to be a luxurious, elegant, trendy, posh resort. If that is what you are looking for, then yes, stay far away. Scharenberg's is actually more about getting AWAY from all of that! It's about getting back to yourself and nature and family and friends and the simple things in life. In a world full of technology and obsessed with luxuries, where things go in and out of style faster than a person can process, a person…

I am 17 years old, and my family has been coming here every summer for the past 9 years. Scharenberg's is my favorite place to be in the entire world. It is very relaxing and the perfect get away. Scharenberg's is where I always spend quality time with my family. I was shocked when I read some of the negative reviews below, and feel obligated to correct false information. The cabins are not filthy and the food is incredible!!! Naturally, sand from the beach gets tracked into the cabins, which would make them filthy. However, every single cabin is equipped with a broom and dustpan, so any guests who dislike sand on the floor may simply sweep it up themselves. Scharenberg's is a great place for kids to have fun. There is a trampoline raft on the water as well as a slide,…
