This is a no-frills affordable hotel in Captain Cook on the Big Island - no frills means no television, mini bar, a/c and fluffy mattresses. The room and the bathroom was very clean. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the bay and the backyard garden - an absolutely incredible view. I didn't eat supper at the restaurant...

We chose Manago Hotel for its location away from the crowded and busy tourist area of Kailua-Kona, its good value and the reviews we read. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were delighted by the surprise ocean view. Our room was very clean but definitely no-frills. Since we didn't intend to hang out much at the hotel, the austerity...

Great little hotel. It's exactly as advertised... a no frills, clean, and friendly hotel. It's not within walking distance to anything, so have a car. But it's within a 30 min drive of good beaches, great snorkeling, kayaking, and dining. The balconies are nice and private (stay on the 2nd or 3rd floor to ensure a view of the water)....

We stayed 2 nights, one in the more expensive room with a bathroom and balcony, and one in the older part of the hotel with the shared bath. It was quieter in the private room. The rooms with the shared bath has very thin walls, we could hear the people in the room next door talking. Also, you can hear...

We stayed in the Japanese room for 2 nights. This hotel is an excellent value - beautiful views, clean, comfortable, and has a lot of character. The mattress has seen better days, but the room is beautifully decorated. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and it is always the same. Perfect in everyway. The nicest family runs this over 100 yr old hotel and restaurant. The older section is with shared bath for about $30 per night and the newer section with private bath about $65.00. The coastal views are breathtaking to say the least. Very...

We stayed in a top floor room with private bathroom for two nights at the beginning of our holiday, based on tripadvisor reviews. The rooms are very basic and in need of an overhaul. It wouldn't cost much, but they could do so much more with what they have. The reason you'd stay here is because it is very cheap...

Basic but clean hotel with nice balconies and fantastic oceanviews. The food (breakfast and dinner) at the attached restaurant is basic but excellent and very pricey too. Overall, a good choice for those on a budget or for those who need to spend a night near the Kona airport. For those who can afford to pay USD 100 per night,...

Charming time-warp - little changed since 1920's! Dinner 5.30 - 7.30 in the original dark-wood panelled dining room but food and service excellent. On the main road but our room at the back had a balcony looking over an orchard to endless sea and sunsets. Captain Cook much nicer than Kona itself amd nothing like the price.

The pork chops were just fabulous. It reminded me of eating pork chops as a kid and covering them with soy sauce and onions to make them taste better!
