The rooms are dirty, the benches are stained and the carpets are filthy. The sheets had stains that looked like it never washed off from previous and the rooms had roaches! Mind you we had switched rooms already but I couldn’t tell which was worst. The ice machine was moldy on every floor. I don’t ever plan on staying here again.

We always stay at the Hilo Hawaiian when we visit town from Kona. Great views of the bay, amazing restaurant on site (WSW), and great value at the kama'aina rate. Our only complaint was that our original reservation was for a king bed, and a king room was not available when we checked in. The front desk staff did an outstanding job and was able to get us into a king room that was being cleaned, so we only had to wait a short time. Mahalo for your excellent customer service. Lots of aloha during our stay.

A fabulous Hotel, fantastic views and great service. We stayed here for 4 nights and we could hav stayed more we loved the hotel and Hilo so much. The hotel is located on the waters edge near Coconut Island and has a great restuarant, bar and swimming pool. Parking is free at the hotel and plenty of spots available. Short walk to the beautiful park next to the hotel and to coconut island acloss the bridge. Rooms are well appointed and very comfortable . We had an Ocean/Bay facing room (728) with 2 Queen Beds and balcony. Just wonderful. Would Recommend and stay here again loved it so much. Thank you Hilo Hawaiian Hotel for making our stay in Hilo so Wonderful. 10/10

The staff wasn't very friendly. The bed sheets were dirty/stained. The vending machines did not work, on all floors. Ice machines were on every other floor. For the nightly rate you are better off at the Naniloa Hotel next door.

Cheap room. They pulled a bait and switch. I booked a king size bed and when I arrived they told me they didn’t have any more and that my selection was only a “request”. I couldn’t get a refund because I booked through a third party. Then they charged me an additional $60 as a resort fee.

Excellent location and decent value when staying in Hilo. The Castle Hilo Hawaiian is next to the Queen Liliuokalani Park and overlooks "coconut island". The rooms facing the bay have an excellent view of Mauna Kea towering over Hilo Bay. Can't beat happy hour on your room balcony overlooking Hilo Bay. Pay the extra for the bay view rooms! The rooms themselves are pretty standard...clean, comfortable but not special. They do have a fridge so you can store from breakfast items. We had a good meal in the hotel restaurant. Pleasant staff.

This was our second visit to Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. We enjoy the family-friendly environment and the opportunities to see and hear birds and children from our balcony. We like the proximity of the hotel to parks on Banyon Drive, Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea. We liked the ease of walking down to breakfast and a couple of dinners at WSW Restaurant, where the food was good but service and preparation was inconsistent. Staff were all friendly and we enjoyed the view at the restaurant.

There is no food service from 11:00 AM until 5. We weren't told that. Since I did not have a car uber everywhere. I would of bought stuff at a grocery store. The rooms need work. All lampshades are starting to rot away. Black out drapes have rotted torn parts. The highlight of the hotel were the bartenders in the little bar, and the people at the outside desk that gets you transportation. They gave us lots of important info as where to go and where to eat. I asked the desk about food and they told nope no lunch service. Plus no machines. I ended up walking two miles to get food.

There must have been new staff members behind the counter to check guests into their rooms. We changed rooms three times. Once, we were given a room with a king bed. We had reserved a room with two beds. So, we moved for the third time. The first room we were given was too close to the noise of the parking lot. The third room had two beds and was quieter so, that was the room we ended up with. It was okay, except the bathtub didn’t properly drain and the door handle was broken. We were told at check in there would be no room service. Granted, we were staying just two nights but, considering the “resort” fee we were charged ($29 a day), I would have expected someone would service our room. Each bottle of shampoo, conditioner and body wash contained only 1.35 fluid ounces! For two people for two days! And we received the following for our $29 per day resort fee: Local, toll free and long distance mainland calls; a local newspaper, if available (the Hawaii Tribune Herald); wifi; EVEN self parking!!!!!!!!, hand sanitizer in the lobby!!!!!!, a BFA Free Logo’d bottle (free advertising for the hotel, which we declined), use of a filtered water refill station, use of the fitness center, pool and sun deck and in room coffee/tea packet (one per day). One of the few pluses was you could print your boarding pass from a kiosk in the lobby. And there were no saves in the room, only at the front desk. This wasn’t clear when I booked the room. With the resort fee, the charge was over $200 per night. A disappointing experience. It is unlikely we will stay here again.
