This hotel is like 10 mins away from Hilo airport and central to all Hilo attractions. It is also one of the more reasonably-priced hotels in the area, but that's about it. It is an old hotel and you can definitely smell that distinctly old smell in the room. Parking is free which is rare in Hawaii. If you're not...

During our recent vacation to the Big Island, we took a trip from Kona to Hilo and stayed overnight at the Castle Hilo. This hotel can recommended and I was concerned when I looked it up and it was only a three star hotel. Yes...I will admit to being a hotel snob and usually only stay at 4-5 stars. Since...

We stayed three nights in January 2013. Parking was plentiful and best of all, free! Check in only took a few minutes. Hotel staff was friendly. We stayed at room 624. The room was pretty depressing because it looked so dated; it looked like a room that time forgot. Everything's old from the wallpaper to the carpet to the bedspread...

As others have said - one night here is plenty! The outside is nice and the lobby lovely, but the rooms are sad. First, we were given the wrong room (2 double beds instead of a king) but that was quickly remedied. Our next room was large, but very sparse. It had a king bed - with a bedspread that...

I pretty well second the comments of the previous 3 reviews. It's OK - but the hotel has no "panache". It seems like management is content with being the best hotel in Hilo - even if that best is mediocre. Our room was fine (nice ocean view, but this (lowest) floor had no balcony. Like most Big Island hotels, no...

My husband and I stayed 1 night at the Castle Hilo in February, and thankfully it was only 1 night. This hotel is in dire need of renovations. Our room had dirty carpets and walls and the bathtub should be replaced all together. If this is one of the best properties in Hilo, then they are lucky for the lava...

Dear Valued Guests: Aloha! I only wish that we would have been notified so that we could have corrected the situation and made your stay more enjoyable. We will...

It doesn't seem like there are many places to stay in Hilo. This hotel is probably one of the better ones but it really wouldn't be considered anything special on the mainland and certainly wouldn't be able to charge as much as it does for its rooms. Like Hilo - you only really want to go there for the lava...

We stayed here one night on our way around the big island. Staff were helpful and we liked the less touristy vibe you generally get in Hilo. Our room was large, okay and clean but circa 1970s. A heating/cooling unit refused to make heat - somewhat of a problem in rainy, cool Hilo. The beds and linens were motel-like, which...

Hilo has few hotels to choose from but this is probably the best. The hotel is clean and has the basic amenities but you have to ask for things like hair dryers and ironing boards. If you have "preferences" like king beds, check in early. We made reservations months in advance and requested king beds. When we checked in around...

It's a pretty old property with musty carpets and rooms. It's a very basic hotel. The front desk personnel is nice and has the old time Hawaiian charm. If you need a hair dryer, ironing board, etc., pick it up at the front desk. Enjoy the view and location and make sure to bring an umbrella.

Dear Valued Guests: Aloha! I would like to apologize for any deficiencies you experienced during your recent visit to the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I will have the housekeeper check our rooms and refresh as needed. Being in the tropics and in an area of high humidity, musty rooms are indeed a challenge. We will do a better job in rotating...
