In a word - Paradise. Beautiful gardens, fresh and clean room, big beach towels, a pool, hot tub and incredible breakfasts - all looking out over the ocean. Maria and Ricardo were amazing hosts with great recommendations for places to visit. An example of breakfast one morning: Fresh papaya bowl filled with pieces of pineapple, apple bananas and papaya and...

The location of this B&B is great! Every morning we were able to watch whales and surfers from the upper veranda. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The food is very good and we found it to be more than adequate - an earlier review suggested it was scanty - there was always food left over when we were...

We spent 3 nights here, and enjoyed every minute. Loved the location, and the amazing flora. The breakfasts were delicious. And our host and hostess, Ric and Maria, were so helpful, designing tours for all their guests. We stayed in the Pele room, and loved the spaciousness.

The Hale Kai is certainly in a 5 star (maybe 6 or 7???) location - north of Hilo and overlooking a spectacular cliff out to the ocean. We could hear the waves crashing all night with the windows open and watched the surfers from the pool balcony. There's easy access by car into Hilo for the farmers' market, into Puna...

I was on the Big Island to meet with friends and colleagues. This B & B is a treasure! Comfortable, great breakfast and the photos are true to its gorgeous reality. About 6 miles north of Hilo, close to waterfalls, zip lining, volcano, beaches and mountains. There is so much to see an do this star. A car is a...

The location of this bed and breakfast is excellent, very close to Hilo and overlooking the ocean at Honolii surfer's beach. Although the room was a little dated and the bathroom a bit small, it had a wonderful semi-private patio to sit and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks below and the coqui frogs chirping as it got...

We stayed 2 nights, and wish it could have been longer. The bedroom (Bamboo Room in our case) had one full side with windows open to the ocean. The sound of the waves all night was incredible - we stayed during a high surf time, and it was as loud as thunder at times. The room and attached bathroom were...

While our room was simple but clean, that's probably the best thing I have to say about this place. The vibe here is unpleasant. Breakfast was stingy. The driveway where you're supposed to park along with other guests is downright terrifying. If you want the screen door opened for air, you're basically sleeping in an unlocked room. We felt safe,...

We stayed at Hale Kai for four nights and would highly recommand this B&B if you are traveling to the Hilo area. Breakfast is very good with fresh local fruits and an entree fresh made every day by the owners. Rooms are not fancy but spacious and comfortabele. They all have first class sea view and a porch. The owners...
