Wow, talk about "coming home!" The Dolphin Bay is a former two-story apartment complex in a very old, verdant part of town, just across the old sugar cane bridge that crosses the Wailuku River into old down town. Incredibly lush, quiet, and like stepping back into my days as a student at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. We stayed...

The first time that I stayed at DBH was in 2006. This time, it was 5 of us adventure seeking friends. The place is as I remember, just friendly and helpful island folk, extremely clean rooms, beautiful grounds and a lovely, light and free breakfast. Parking was still tight, but certainly not a deal breaker. I loved that it was...

Cute, clean, comfortable. An older property, simple, definitely nothing fancy but a good value, a relaxing energy, and superior service with very friendly staff. The grounds have a nice tropical feel and it's very relaxing. Dolphin Bay is located in a quiet part of Hilo fairly close to downtown, but be forewarned: the coqui frogs will be singing all night....

My husband & I stayed there for 3 nights in Dec (2012) and were thrilled. While not a new facility, the rooms were clean, the staff excellent and just totally relaxing. If you need the big hotel amenities then this may not be the place for you. There is no air-conditioning but it certainly wasn't needed the nights we were...

We stayed on 2 separate nights a week apart, as we traveled around the island. My travel companion had stayed there in the past, and he was excited to have me experience this hotel. Overall, I liked it a lot. The hotel is located on a nice, quiet street a short walk from the old section of Hilo. The rooms...

I feel bad to make this report as the Hosts are truly lovely people. They were very accomodating and helpful. We stayed here for one night only as we flew down to Hawaii the Big Island to see the Volcano. The accomodation is old. The kitchenette was brand new - though maybe 50 years ago so it was dated when...

We stayed in Dolphin Bay Hotel 17.10.-21.10.12 4 nights in the superior studio on the upper floor facing Iliahi street. The room was clean, nicely decorated and spacy. The lack of airco is not too bad as fans and the Hilo climate (moderate sunshine, clouds and a breeze) made the conditions ok. Kitchen and bathroom were equipped with everything needed....

My family and I stayed at this hotel for one night in late August. We had a little trouble finding it because it was dark and rainy when we arrived, but Hilo is not a large town, and we soon got our bearings. We had a one bedroom unit for the four of us. My husband and I slept in...

My family and I recently stayed at the Dolphin Bay. We were on a trip on which we stayed in a variety of types of properties (condo, resort, cottage, etc.) We found the DB to be a great value. We stayed in the apartment which had a separate bedroom and then a living room with two single sofa sleepers and...

This review won't say anything different to the others, but really, this place is such a delightful surprise we were thrilled when we got there. As other say, the room is basic, but clean and has lots of little touches (fresh flowers in a small vase, basic tea and coffee/salt pepper etc provided etc) that just show thoughtfulness. The owner...
