We would have to rate this establishment average. We were a little disappointed. Our room was rather small. It looked bigger in the photos. Many bugs in the room (not exluding your average Hawaiian roach!) It was VERY hard to sleep at night as there are thousands (seemed like millions) of these koki (sp?) frogs that scream all night! It...

Not only is it a great place to stay, the family is so wonderful and make you feel welcome. The website tells you exactly what to expect in accomadations, but the real value is the family & Petra's wealth of local knowledge. Not to mention a great cook! Her quiche is the best we've ever had! We feel we have...

We so enjoyed our stay at Hale Makamae! It's in a very peaceful setting, quiet and absolutely gorgeous! Petra and John are wonderful! It didn't matter which one did the breakfast, we enjoyed each meal. :o) The conversations are very relaxing and felt like being home. We stayed for three nights in the Garden Suite and absolutely loved the experience! The suite itself was spacious, had a private entrance, and was sparkling clean. Petra was very welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. Every morning she sat down and chatted with us. She provided us with a map and gave us great ideas on where to...

We loved this B&B. We had a spacious suite with two seperate bedrooms, a living/dining room, a very functional kitchen, and (my favorite) a walk in closet. Petra even let me do a load of laundry which is such a help for travellers. Breakfast was fresh and tasty every morning and conversations with John and Petra interesting. The location offered...

Although we stayed with Petra and John for only one night, the positivity of the experience remains with us to this day. We were welcomed into Hale Makamae by Petra and her two lovely children. Through a simple introductory chat we were imbued with the aloha spirit that shines through everything at Hale Makamae, especially the people. Our room was...

It is a quiet, friendly place to stay. Easy to reach the Puna olaces and beaches, to watch the lava flow, the vulcano national parc, hilo and Hilo surrounding. Event no problem to reach the observatories on the mountains. The hosts are very friendly, we had a couple of long ,interesting and personal conversations with both of them. We got...

I stayed at thei B&B with my husband and my 4 children (ages 18, 16, 11 and 9). The hostess was friendly and very helpful. The location was excellant, and the grounds beautiful. Our apartment was roomy enough for all of us, and had a small kitchenett. I enjoyed listening to the frogs at night. I had read about them...
