We traveled to the Big Island as a family (2 adults, 2 teenage girls) and sought out this lovely place as an alternative to sterile big box hotel accommodations. We are staying in the Cottage, which can accommodate 4. We have a queen size bed in a loft area, which requires climbing a steep but sturdy ladder. Other cabins have...

Heather and family, Thank you for your appreciative review of the grounds, unique cottages, food and service at the Volcano Rainforest Retreat. Peter and I are always willing and happy to give guests a tour of the grounds to see the other cottages. We appreciate when guests ask for a tour because we want to respect the privacy of the...

Peter and Kathleen were very welcoming. Our plane had a late arrival but they met us as though everything was fine and showed us around. We stayed in the Forest House, very private, lots of windows and skylights. Only a little odd that there was was no sink in the small bathroom (we used the small kitchen sink to wash...

Thank you for your supportive review of the Forest House at the Volcano Rainforest Retreat! We are glad you enjoyed the privacy, the windows and skylights in this setting in nature. We describe the Forest House on the website, "Private bathroom with small shower & toilet, sink in kitchenette" We do have two other larger cottages, which can be reserved...

Peter and Katherine were ideal hosts and went out of their way to accommodate my family and make our stay just perfect. The grounds were so perfectly kept and cultivated with so many beautiful flora. Peter and Katherine thought of every detail regarding our stay and even stayed up late to receive us after a delayed arrival. It was such...

We so appreciate your warm and attentive review, especially knowing how much you enjoyed your stay with us, on this beautiful rainforest property. We are grateful you and your son experienced the uniqueness and sense of place here. The uniqueness is what continues to captivate us too, after 20 years living intimately with the forest and sharing it with so...

We stayed at the Volcano Rainforest Retreat (VRR) in the tiny town of Volcano in February. I apologize for the late posting (been on the road a lot) since this property and the volcano experience really does deserve your attention. If you have not taken the time to really appreciate the Volcanoes National Park at a leisurely pace while based...

We never visited, because we never received a response to our question, even though our credit card had been charged for our full stay 8 months in advance. First we posted a question (about water temperature) on Trip Advisor. We heard back from other members but not this place. Then we emailed them directly. No answer until we told them...

We are very sorry for your strong dissatisfaction with any lack of customer service on our part. We regret your understandable distress due to the delays which occurred in responding to your question. Of course we could have gotten right back to you, and we certainly understand your need for clarity about the warmth of outdoor shower. Additionally, we also...

The Volcano Rainforest Retreat was truly beautiful and so peaceful! We stayed in the Sanctuary and absolutely loved the cozy space and the outdoor shower and soaking tub that really allowed to enjoy the lush, gorgeous rainforest all throughout the property. The breakfasts of fresh fruits, baked goods and granola was delicious and exceeded expectations! We would highly recommend this...

Aloha and thank you for sharing your enjoyment during your stay in the Sanctuary cottage at the Volcano Rainforest Retreat. Sanctuary and Forest House cottages do share space in a parking pavilion. When there are two larger cars, it is a small space. We appreciate you and our other guests's understanding. Thank you for highly recommending our retreat, and that...

Great spot, nice owners (very helpful with local knowledge and trip planning), stay in solitude, breakfast included in your room; great local kona coffee, off the beaten path and only minutes from Volcano National Park.

What a fantastic little gem! I am so glad we were able to find a few nights between many other booked nights to stay here. Very very cozy, very much in the rainforest, and very quaint and clean.
