My family of 6 stayed at this cabin for one night so we could explore the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Check in was easy at the hardware store and the location was great. There was plenty of space for everyone in the cabin, with even more beds than advertised on Expedia. The listing said 2 queens, 2 twins, and a pullout. Actually, there was a queen in a bedroom downstairs and a full in the other room. The upstairs loft had 3 full beds and the couch was a fold-down futon. We loved being in the lush rainforest and it felt secluded, even though there was another unit next door. The house was very clean and we didn’t mind the smells. It was actually very nostalgic of staying in cabins as a child. The fresh fruit and baked breads left on the table for us were a very sweet surprise. We felt the kitchen could have used a few more things to make it easier to cook meals. There were only 5 forks and 5 dinner knives, so they need more silverware. Luckily we had a plastic fork with us. There was not a mixing bowl and we had to make a salad in a frying pan. We also would have liked a baking sheet for the oven. There were not any pots or pans that were oven safe. Will definitely recommend to others who want to stay in Volcano!…

The place was super moldy and intolerable for sleep due to the smell. We sept horribly that night and thankfully only one night. Seems a bit overpriced for such poor sleeping conditions. It’s easy to see how mold is an issue in volcano with the moisture but there was no demudifier even trying.

Seemingly good rental house for the area. The house was clean, reasonably furnished for our stay but vary much a cabin-like stay. Plenty of beds but only a single bathroom. Getting the keys to unit was a bit confusing but otherwise the folks that managed were friendly and helpful.

Pros ..very easy checkin but be sure to arrive before 5:30 ..check in at hardware store property down the road Very clean ..nice to have a separate sitting area Good WiFi in siting area ..weaker in bedroom Tv worked well Very quiet …nice to have a wall heater ..we accidentally turned off but we called for help and a very nice gentleman came immediately and turned it on … Nice bowl of fruit but cheap sweet roll Nice little fridge and coffee maker ..kettle too Big jug of water Cons No microwave Coffee offered cheap …no tea .. Place is dated and needs updating Bed is very old with foam on it ..but comfortable Sheets very thin ..blankets old ..we kicked them off … Expensive for what you get ….but very close to the entrance to the park … Not many options for dinner ..we brought our own We were in unit 2 ..over looking construction of a building ..other units looks at the rain forest…

We weren't so sure at first when we booked our stay here how much we'd like it, but we were going to be in Hawaii...we'd be happy :) Well, our stay was PERFECT! Don't let the fact that you have to get your keys from the hardware store before 5:30 or else the restaurant after 5:30 deter you, we stayed in Wolfie 1 which is across from this cottage pictured. We were the only ones there, surrounded by the forest, with a front porch to sit and have coffee in the morning or lounge in the evening listening to the birds. This is an impeccably clean little cabin, with a little living room, bedroom and bath. There's a coffee maker, they supply coffee and upon arriving and every day when they come to clean is a basket of local fruit and baked breads, a delightful hawainn breakfast. The only downside is there is no microwave, but we didn't have a problem with that. It is a mile from Volcano Park. We would stay there again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay …

Perfect location to visit the vulcano area. Nice hut in the rural village, in the forest. Rooms in good condition, all details match. Check in at the store is OK. Arrive at daylight, much easier to find your way around the village. No drinking water in the bathroom, bring your own bottles.

We recently booked to stay at this Lodge. The Kilauea Volcano started its eruptions before we left our home to travel to Hawaii. We contacted the rangers and the seismic office to get some advice. Both told us the roads were closed and manned by guards so don't try to come. We rang the Lodge and advised them of the situation. We were advised by the operator at the Lodge to just drive around the barriers, (how safe!) He also said no to requests for a refund even though we could not get there. Other operators in Kona could not believe the response. Ethical way to run abusiness!

Stayed at Jade Suite 1 which was part of a side-by-side duplex. Dark wood interior, full bathroom, separate bedroom with a very comfortable queen bed, kitchen with full-size stove and refrigerator freezer. Also microwave, plug in kettle and a coffee maker. There were three packets of coffee available. Also a dehumidifier, propane heater and an oil filled portable radiator in the bedroom closet. Decent cable television and high speed Wi-Fi. Water from tap is not potable but about 5 gallons of potable (bottled) water was available. I appreciated that there was covered parking as it rained quite a bit during my one night stay. I was able to stay dry between car and entryway. I didn't get any banana bread as a welcome amenity. It was a basket with a papaya, a banana, and two commercially packaged oversweetened convenience-store pastries. Got there at about 3 pm and spent the afternoon reading on the porch and listening to the native birdsongs. Then headed out near twilight to experience the night view of the glowing red lava lake out at the Jagger observatory. It rained almost non-stop all night. Beware that the noise as the rain hits the roof is pretty loud and will likely affect light sleepers. I normally play a CD of rain and thunder to get to sleep, so this was perfect for me. In fact, hearing the rain while being snug in bed was the best part of my stay. I would definitely recommend Lava Lodge as a place to stay while exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.…

I went there for hiking with my family and decided to stay here. The room is spacious and clean and I had a good night sleep here after my hiking trip. This place is very basic and not the 5 star kind of resort but it is also comfortable. I would recommend this place

By myself and only used to be close to the park, which allowed for easier access at night to the park. Had to check in at Ace Hardware, but since I knew that going in was no problem. Lodge is located in residential area and was easy to find with directions at check in. Rainy and cooler area of the island. Wouldn't recommend staying here your whole trip because beaches are far away, but perfect for visiting the park.
