One of the most beautiful and peaceful lodging facilities anywhere. Having stayed in three of the four suites (all except Aloha Moon), all are superb, immaculately clean, quiet with very comfortable beds and soft linens. Each suite is decorated with distinct and unique Asian art and cultural objects. My fave, Rising Moon, has wonderful outdoor spaces, a front lanai if you want sun, and a back zen garden that is partially covered (it is in a rain forest). White Lotus suite has a huge jacuzzi (room for two). Hula Moon has a large table in front of a fireplace. All have kitchenettes with coffee and tea making, as well as a microwave. Mr Kim is constantly working on the rooms (he is building an additional cottage), adding new features and curios. He is a wonderful, friendly host. The staff cleans the rooms and makes the beds every day (like the old days). Every afternoon your breakfast is delivered and placed in the refrigerator so every morning, at your leisure, you can have lots of fresh fruit and home baked goods. As a resident of the Big Island, I love hiking the volcano and always choose The Lotus Gardens. Tip: Get takeout from the Thai food truck or Thai Thai and eat on your lanai!

Property's Favourite Review
Lotus Gardens Cottages is an ideal spot to stay for its ambiance and atmosphere, as well as being close by to Volcano National Park; and an easy drive to Hilo. Our Rising Moon Suite was spectacular, with its king bed, spacious bathroom with shower and jacuzzi; and a beautiful and relaxing outdoor patio, which was perfect for eating breakfast. Breakfast was placed into our refrigerator the evening prior and there was a microwave to heat up our meals of quiche, eggs & sausage, and pastries on the various mornings. And a Keurig for morning coffee. (Given the state of Covid, meals were in our suite vs. in the dining area). John, the innkeeper and owner was very attentive to our needs during our stay, giving us ideas for day trips. We’d certainly stay here again.

Lotus Garden Cottages exceeded my expectations and I really wished I had stayed longer! We booked the white lotus suite and omg, this room + bathroom itself was like 5-star hotel luxurious. It may seem underwhelming from the outside getting there, since it is tucked away and there is a bit of construction going on since the owner is building more units, but it's really the room that sold us. We stayed for one night to explore the Hawaii Volcano National Park and we loved that we were so close to the entrance. There is private parking, if you check in outside of normal hours or a bit later in the day, the owner leaves instructions and notes on your door which made it really easy for us. You could tell that every detail and aspect of the room was well thought out, I can't rave about this place enough. Book this asap if you want to treat you and your SO to a retreat in the rainforest!

This is a luxury, zen like, secret oasis in Hawaii that makes you feel like you stepped into another land. The cottages have a bungalow feel and are surrounded by lush rainforest . The architecture is high end and well thought out with graceful luxury touches nostalgic of Zen Japan luxury . The breakfast is elegant and thoughtful. The gas fireplace is both cozy and warm, and the jacuzzi is serene and private . Will definitely stay here again and again at this oasis.

Our cottage (Hula) was beautifully appointed and designed to meet every need. The furnishings are what you’d expect to see in someone’s home, tastefully decorated with gorgeous Japanese textiles and furnishings. It’s quiet and comfortable, and we were glad to make use of the fireplace as it was cold when we visited. We’ve traveled many times to the Big Island and happy to have found this wonderful, unique place.

We loved our stay in Lotus Garden Cottage. It is located in a beautiful tropical garden. My family enjoyed the singing birds and the peaceful ambience. We loved having tea/ lunch/ dinner on the porch while enjoying the beautiful garden. The rooms in this cottage are beautifully decorated and full of character. Mr. Kim was very warm. Thank you for the hospitality, Mr. Kim!

Beautiful and serene setting, impeccable room and bathroom. The attention to detail was impressive! We slept with the door open so we could hear all the rainforest night sounds! The breakfast was amazing and John was helpful, knowledgeable and great! I will recommend this to anyone traveling to this area, if we come back to this area, we would only stay here !

My family and I just stayed at the Lotus Garden Cottages because we wanted to be close to Volcano National Park. Mr. Kim and his wife were wonderful hosts; so kind and welcoming. And of course knowledgeable about the area (wildlife — I thought I was hearing birds but it turns out they are frogs— local places to eat and places to visit in the park). It was a warm and welcoming personal experience. I’m just sorry we did not have more time to stay and chat with the Kims. The room was cozy, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and had something for everyone. It was a relaxing stay in a beautiful location. We highly recommend Lotus Garden Cottages for your trip to Volcano. Thank you, Mr Kim! We wish you all the best. Kacey and Family

We spent the bulk of our trip over on the western side of the island but couldn't get a room the first two nights of our stay, so we happened upon Lotus Garden and it ended up being our favorite experience of the whole vacation. The owner Mr. Kim was hospitable, friendly, and helped us check in after hours after our drive over from Kona airport ran late. Highly recommend the White Lotus suite. The room had a peaceful decor with a cozy gas fireplace, and he'd set up a dehumidifier for us so the room was a perfect temperature throughout our stay. The bath area is sizable with a large jacuzzi tub and the unit is surrounded by lovely greenery which was welcome relaxation coming from a bustling city. Within 10 minutes driving you'll find Volcano National Park (we were so close we were able to go every day!), Ono Cafe, and the TukTuk Thai food truck - recommend visiting all 3! After leaving something behind in the room, Mr. Kim even shipped it back to our home in California with much care. We will definitely be back and have highly recommended staying here to everyone we know!
