We loved everything about our stay at Volcano Village Lodge! From the most comfortable pillows and bed that we’ve ever slept on, the tranquil rainforest surroundings that made us feel like we were the only guests at the lodge, the delicious breakfasts and the best hospitality we’ve ever experienced while traveling. It was hard to leave this place and we really loved our time in Volcanos, HI. Thank you so much John to you and your staff!!!

Great location next to Volcano park. However, the stay was less than perfect for us (perhaps our expectations were too high). We had one of the bigger lodges and therefore somewhat expensive. Unfortunately, three things have made a negative impressions on us and I cannot recommend this place. 1) there is no privacy - shades only offer minimal coverage so if any of the lights are on inside in the evening, anyone outside can see in (we had to change in the dark) 2) hard to sleep in - no black out curtains to provide any kind of darkness in the morning (this is only an issue if you like to sleep past 6am and in somewhat darkness). (Also, it’s loud outside!! - frogs and rain drops (ear plugs really helped with that though)) 3) And most importantly for me, the pillows are extremely thick. All 8 pillows were as thick as cushions and completely unusable by both of us. It’s quite odd that out of 8 pillows not one was normal. We spend two nights there, and we had terrible nights of sleep. Breakfast is to be reheated by you which felt odd but actually was delicious. Lisa at the hotel was very helpful, super pleasant and polite! Lovely to deal with. She suggested I used a folded blanket - and showed me where to find one - instead of a pillow which did help. But a neck pain on vacation is no fun and I hope that this is addressed to make others feel better.

Aloha Inna! Thank you for your review. We strive to make our guests as comfortable as possible so we appreciate your input. Additional softer pillows have been placed in the room and we have taken into consideration your recommendation for the blinds. Mahalo Nui, the Volcano Village Lodge Ohana.

Stayed at this b&b for two nights while visiting volcano national park. It was an incredible setting in the middle of a rainforest. A short drive (5 mins) to Volcano for dinners, and about 10 mins drive to the park. Staff had helpful suggestions for dinner and to pointed us to one of the nearby convenience stores for excellent subs to take for lunch on the park. Staff hours were limited, and as a consequence they leave your breakfast in the mini fridge for you to heat up in the microwave, which is a little disappointing for a b&b. The breakfast was good, but would have been better if it was freshly cooked rather than reheated the next morning.

Room Tip: Highly recommend getting subs from the convenience store (the one beside the gas station)....

THe place was magical, out in the rainforest with glass on 3 sides of our little room. Cozy even in the torrential rain and some wind because we had a little free standing stove that used gas. And heated blankets. We hiked the volcanos for a few days, getting rained out every day. My weather app said that day 2 rained 5.95 " but the next day expected only 2.75" the next day. Host suggested some places in Volcano Village to eat. Thai Thai was great. Also Java Rock Cafe had great maitais and good food. Loved Pua, our host and person in charge. Lovely breakfasts prepared the night before to heat next day. Drove to Hilo one day to Planetarium, excellent for rainly day and also later hiked in the Botanical Gardens. It weems to rain a lot so you just go out in your raingear and hike or tour. A totally magical 4 days in that lovely room. Can't remember name but the smallest of the 5 rooms. Bu like being out in a very secure tent in the rain. So cozy. All walkways from parking to the lodges was wood decking about 4' from ground with roofs overhead. You could be in the rain but out of the wet!

Absolutely beautiful stay. Our room was a stunning octagon with all of the comforts of home. Beautiful king bed with heated mattress pads, gas fireplace, fridge etc. Breakfast was fantastic on both days we were there. Even gluten free banana pancakes for a dietary condition. Very thoughtful indeed. It is in a rain forest so you will hear rain pinging off of the roof often. It is very soothing to hear at night. All part of the experience! Used the hot tub too. It seemed so quiet even though others were staying in the other cabins. Close to Volcano state park too. Highly recommend.

If you dream about staying in a tropical rainforest, surrounded by lush vegetation, and listening to the rain fall on your roof, then this the place for you. The Volcano Village Lodge is a collection of small cottages located in the dense forest on the outskirts of the hamlet of Volcano Hawaii and just two miles from the National Park entrance. The location could not be better for exploring the park. We stayed in the Maua Loa cottage which thankfully was heated by a gas stove during the wet and cold Hawaii winter, plus there was a heated bed pad that kept us warm at night. The floor to ceiling windows were disconcerting at first because of the translucent shades. My wife commented that it was reminiscent of a zoo exhibit for humans on a science fiction show. But eventually you realize there is nobody out there watching you. Like many Hawaiian structures constructed in a 'post and beam ' style, the cottage has thin walls, open spaces, and no insulation. The hosts were very accommodating of our dietary restrictions at breakfast. The meal was delivered to our refrigerator he night before and we could reheat it in the toaster oven the next morning. We never used the 'hot tub' because the temperature was set too cool for our liking. These are not luxury cottages, but the Volcano Village Lodge was a great place to spend a few nights on a volcano. We even felt an earthquake. One caution is there are few sit-down restaurants in this small town. So be sure to book a table for dinner before your trip.

Thank you for your review, yes Volcano has just a few restaurants, and it is a bit hit and miss on the opening hours but glad you were able to find somewhere to have dinner. We look forward to hosting you again should you be back our way. Mahalo.

We loved staying here! The setting was lovely and Lisa was a wonderful host. She made terrific suggestions in the area and in Hilo. Top things: The breakfasts in our room were delicious and a treat. The proximity to Volcanoes National Park made it easy to pop in at different times of day to hike, see the lava or drive the chain of craters road. It was fun to curl up with a movie (they have a huge selection!) in the evening. Overall, I highly recommend as a unique place to stay to see this part of the island!

This place couldn't be any better. Almost afraid to let this gem of secret out for fear I wont be able to book a room in the future without significant advance notice but these guys deserve a great review. Atmosphere is incredible. Its my dream home really and the design is indescribably awesome. One of the best places we could have ever stayed. Will be back for sure.

Our family of three had a wonderful stay in the Mauna Loa suite. We really appreciated 1) the lodge's proximity to Volcanoes National Park, 2) the amazing morning breakfasts included (fresh local fruit and, during our stay, quiche, pancakes, and french toast), 3) the solitude, and 4) the overall quality of service. The suite was extremely comfortable thanks to the soft, but supportive beds, nicely sized bath, and ample heating (it was a bit chilly in December at this elevation). Our 13-year-old daughter had plenty of room to sleep in her own dedicated bedroom. We also enjoyed the meditation loft and front porch. Despite the suites being grouped together on one property, it's easy to maintain a sense of privacy thanks to ample landscaping and foliage. It feels a bit like staying in a tropical tree house. Can't wait to return.

The lodge is located in a small town, but feels very remote! The pictures don't do it justice - everything was perfect from the accommodations to the staff. Highly recommend. Very close to Volcanos National Park - easy to get to during the day and at night.
