The host, Mike, met us on arrival and gave us all the details we needed - including letting us know that the volcano was active, so we got a once in a lifetime chance to see that! The location was great, in a rain forest setting and only 10 minutes to the National Park. The grounds were well kept, clean, and relaxing. The cabin itself was a great size for our family of 4, and each kid had their own bed. The interior of the cottages are average, but nice and clean. Comfort of guests is obviously important to the owners and we slept great! They have heaters as well as bed heaters too!

Had the pleasure of staying here for 3 nights while we visited the Volcano National Park. Location is about 5 miles from the entrance to the park. Property is in a lush tropical area. Mike and Susan are so welcoming. You can tell by the room that they have thought of everything you might need. Mike gave us a great place to visit in Hilo. We went to the park several times during our stay. Only concern was the very dark drive to and from the park. No lights on the road leading to the property. We would certainly stay here again if we ever find ourselves in Hawaii.

We stayed here for the second half of our trip, after spending 4 nights in Kona to start. It is very quiet, jungle-like setting. Warm, cozy cottages with all the amenities you need. Owners meet you at check in and make sure all is taken care of. The town of Volcano is a good spot to use as a home base for exploring the east side of the Big Island and the National Park.

We stayed in the Ohia Forest Studio Cottage for one night while we were visiting the national park. It was a perfect quiet getaway in the forest. They welcomed us personally and showed us the features of the cottage, and left us local chocolates as a welcome gift. The cottage was very cozy and charming with the natural wood, and decorations. We really appreciated the small, but fully stocked kitchen, and table and chairs, when the food truck we were planning to eat at was closed. We were able to heat up leftovers we had and make a meal. The bathroom was small, but functional. It helped to have the window open for air flow. The main bed was very comfortable. There was no AC, but there was a ceiling fan. Our son slept up in the loft, which was a fun space for him. Our only complaint was that it would have been nice to have a fan in the loft. My son was too warm and had trouble sleeping. We didn't walk around the grounds because it was raining most of the time we were there, but the setting was private and beautiful. If the kids down the street are out selling mango mochi bread, definitely stop and get some. It was delicious! We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area!

Gorgeous property with wonderful owners! Sue and Mike had great suggestions of things to do on the island and were interesting to talk to in general and very friendly. The Ohia Forest Studio Cottage was a welcome intimate change from the bustling resorts.
