We stayed here after a flight delay that unexpectedly added a night to our vacation. I picked this hotel since I am a Bonvoy Member. The staff and guests here were all very friendly - much warmer that the Westin Hapuna where we spent our week prior to getting here. There are tons of small kids and grandparents/parents - it was very sweet to see them all in the pool area. The luau entertainment - though we did not go to it we could hear all of it - was top notch. For the price, a bit more and you could be at an updated resort with more restaurants, updated rooms and an amazing beach just up the road but i can see how this place as it is fits a need for families who just want to relax and play. It is not stuffy, no reservations needed and everyone is relaxed. I appreciated that. For the cost though it needs an update.…
We stayed at this property for 1 night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As a titanium elite, I was very impressed with the staff and the reception we received. Our flight landed in Kona at 9:40 am. We were at the hotel at approximately 10:30 am. Despite the early hour, we were allowed to check in, and even upgraded to a larger corner room with a full ocean view (top floor). We would have been thrilled with just this. But the check-in person did more. When she realized that we had not eaten yet, she gave us a second breakfast voucher (even though we were only staying 1 night) and encouraged us to head right downstairs to have a late breakfast before the restaurant closed at 11 am (which we did... more on that below). She also gave us a voucher for 2 classes of champagne at the bar (to celebrate our anniversary) and, as elite guests, she also comped our parking charge. We were blown away with the way she was bending over backward to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. The room was very nice, and the property was beautiful. We spent the afternoon enjoying the pools and beach. My only complaint was that the beach itself was very rocky. There was sand, but it only went for a little bit... once you got about knee deep, it was all rocks. In comparison, we spent time at the Mauna Kea and Westin Hapuna resorts, and their beaches were much nicer/sandier. I guess this is why those properties are more expensive. Elites have access to a free breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant. While this is technically a 'continental' buffet, we found that it was very filling. We had access to fruit, breads (toast, English muffins, bagels), delicious pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and waffles. We could have paid extra to add in bacon, hot eggs and custom omelets, but honestly, the continental breakfast was very filling and the extra was not necessary. The hotel is located near shopping, and it is easy to walk (or drive) to dining options, as well as Island Markets (grocery store) and even a movie theatre. The hotel has ice machines on each floor. Unlike typical hotel ice machines, the ice is crushed, and there are water dispensers right next to the ice. This makes it very easy to fill up your water bottle at 1 station with ice and water. Oh, and they gave us 2 free reusable water bottles when checking in. This was a really nice touch. We requested late checkout, and it was granted, so we actually ended up staying at this hotel for over 24 hours. I have never had a hotel property be more welcoming to me, or so willing to fulfill my requests. I rarely write reviews for hotels, but the Marriott Waikoloa Beach is outstanding, and it deserves praise.…
Based on positive Tripadvisor reviews, using Marriott points I booked a 3 night stay 11/29 - 12/2 in a "King, Balcony" on my final stay (after several nights in Hilo and Koloa) prior to flying back home to LA. Upon checking in at 3:00PM and being so warmly greeted as Platinum Elite by the front desk gals, I was told that my Marriott "Suite Nights" were approved and was subsequently upgraded to Hale 14 Suite. Entering my room through the lush gardens, I was absolutely elated how beautiful and clean this suite was including full size kitchen, beautifully decorated living room with 1/2 bath, 1st balcony, large bedroom (with ocean view 2nd balcony) and wonderful bathroom with oversized open walk-in shower with all high end toiletries. During my entire stay, this suite was incredibly quiet and peaceful - never heard a neighbor whatsoever which for me is heaven. The Marriott grounds are beautifully manicured (Mai Tais were delish) and the beach is fantastic. Had a green sea turtle come up from the ocean and sunbathe right next to me (thanks Mom!) To the wonderful staff at Marriott, sincerely appreciate the hospitality - I'll be back.…
Convenient location, attentive staff, and decent accommodations. The hotel is family-oriented, so the atmosphere of the pool and beach area is disrupted by the occasional Marco Polo face-off and inflatable toy. However, the wait staff is great about making sure you are greeted with a friendly smile and your drinks are never empty. The hotel is walking distance to other restaurant options and is a common pick-up point for guide services on the island. If you need a rental car, you can obtain one in the lobby so you don’t need to worry about the rental services at the airport. I stayed in a standard room on the first floor and traveled with friends, so I had the sleeper sofa. The restroom didn’t have ventilation and the sleeper sofa had a permanent tilt, but these are the only “cons” I can mention from my stay. …
The room (2287) was spacious with a comfortable bed and a good-sized bathroom. There were convenient plugs for charging electronic devices. It may have been the configuration of the room off to right side of the hotel on the 2nd floor (we had a sliver of an ocean view from our balcony), but the nightstands were set back from the bed, so that we had to turn awkwardly to reach water, our phones, etc. Also, when you turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, it floods the bedroom and wakes up the other sleeper. Other good things: free parking, awesome views from the restaurant/bar area, nice staff. Beware hidden fees, such as the resort fee ($30/day plus taxes) that we only found out about on check-in. Now if you are the kind of vacationer who wants to take hula lessons or the other activities covered by the resort fee, this is the place for you.…
LOVED this trip to the Marriot Waikoloa Beach. We've been to the area before and visited this Marriot, but I am glad we did an extended stayed this time. The resort is updated, rooms are clean and well appointed with really comfortable beds and bedding, and all the in-room amenities you need. Most rooms have a view of ocean, even if they are listed as "pool view" (which overlooks the ocean!!) I'd like to give a special SHOUT OUT to Kathy, the concierge. She was AMAZING!! She organized and reserved activities for us including an ATV Tour, Golf outing, and reservations to restaurants. Now, could I do this myself? Yes, and I usually do, but I have to say that meeting Kathy made our trip easier and more fun. She suggested tours we would not have found and made reservations a SNAP. We got really good tables at the restaurants and I do believe it was because she made them. She was extremely fast, friendly and totally GOT what we wanted. THANK YOU KATHY!! Back to the resort... it is one of the few that has an ocean BEACH (Hilton does NOT) and the pool overlooks the beach. Wonderful walking paths along the ocean and the property and an open-air-but-covered restaurant - Hawaii Calls. We ate several meals here and they were all good-to-exceptional. Breakfast off the menu fantastic and all the fish meals awesome. Taste of Hawaii Pizza fabulous and the drinks and cocktails awesome - even the NO PROOF options! Very fun and fresh. If you want to go off-property, there is the Kinds and Queen Shopping areas within walking with good shops. We did grab-and-go food from the ABC Gourmet and it was all very good. Short drive to other beaches and into Kona. We did tour a few other hotels and villas while we were there, and concluded that we'll come back to the Marriot Waikoloa. See you next time! Highly recommend.…
The room was generous and lovely. The view was great, but there were some unforced errors. We called the engineer about the air conditioning and it had to be set to 50 to get the room down to 69. Next, (this is weird) the cold water came out warm or hot. They made a slight adjustment, but it was never completely right. The explanation was that because we had the top (6th) floor, the pipes were overheated and the results was luke warm water out of the cold spout; weird, Last and by far the most frustrating, was that the battery enabling key entry was completely dead; so dead the maid and security use their pass keys when asked. The result was we had to wait 20 minutes to get in the room and another 30 minutes while they changed the battery. Was it a bad break, or just ignoring the possibility that this could happen. Frustrating when you're in prime vacation and your goal is to get IN and OUT of the room as soon as possible. Proper resitituion was made and they gave us checkout to 4 PM which was helpful as we had a midnight fllight. It should be noted that some customer service folks (note Debbie) were much more helful than others. On the other hand, the property was in great condition, looked and looked world class on entry. There were 3 pools, including a beautiful water slide, infinity pool and hot tubs. The beach access was excellent as with a little park and eco walk separating the property and beach. We rented a shaded cabana for a half day on the beach and it was beautiful. It was enhanced by the beauty of the beach and the quality of the beach and wather as well. The hotel was located across the street of King Shops and Queen Marketplace. Location was excellent. Great for walks and improvised hikes around the Waikoloa district. …
At the price point of this hotel, it’s better to stay at the Fairmont Orchid Hotel. We had 1 night there and planned 4 nights at Waikoloa Marriott. We found the hotel was old, not clean and staff not understanding. The pool areas were crowded and difficult to find seats. There is only 1 restaurant on site The bathroom of our so called upgraded room was small, sink didn’t drain and shower area was dirty. Also, I was surprised at the hotel staff attitudes towards loyal Marriott reward members Lastly, we had to leave early and the hotel charges an early leaving fee of one night. I highly recommend go elsewhere.
The Waikoloa area is fairly new. This Marriott is modern and beautiful. Nice pool area including a warm pool with sand beach area for kids. 3 pools and 3 hot tubs. Occeanfront to a nice beach area. Rooms are modern and comfortable. Walkable to next door Kings Shops and Queens Shops. Plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from.
Poor customer service, too bad Starwood didn’t rub off on Marriott. Rooms are small and outdated. Didn’t have housekeeping some days, no room service, not late check out even though it was discussed at time of booking. Not ADA compliant, No attempt to make things right.
