Rather poor value. We’ve been on the Big Island many times, but first time at this hotel. Checked in this afternoon with these initial observations. $700+/night for “ocean front” room. The quality of this hotel is similar to an airport hotel. The location on the water is an asset, but the planning (site and architecture) doesn’t necessarily take full advantage of its site. The architecture has a 70-80s feel. Much of the interior needs to be refreshed even though the rooms were probably updated within the last 8 years. Will be here 3 nights, hopefully the next 2.5 days will be better. There’s not even glasses in the room. They can’t get the mobile key to work and the keycard failed. Marriott IT isn’t up to par.

We’ve stayed here a few times, and not had any issues. It’s far from the nicest resort on the island, but it is adequate when the price is right. On this particular visit, there were pranksters roaming the halls, knocking on doors and roaming the hallways freely. We called security numerous times and reported the multiple incidents of “ding-dong-ditch”. The pranksters elevated the “game” leaving food in the hallways. We requested that the hotel lock the outside door to secure the hallways, and they refused. It’s not a huge deal, but it kept our children awake. The bigger issue is that the hotel staff was unable to adequately handle the incident. There appeared to be multiple parties effected If you’re looking for a peaceful resort setting, then this probably isn’t it. Service and food was otherwise adequate. You know what you’re going to get.

Disappointing a weeklong stay at this Marriott location. This property needs a series of update, although clean you can see the wear and tear everywhere. Pros: wonderful staff Cons: Very noisy common area which echoes out to all the oceanfront rooms. My oceanfront room was in front of the pool so lots of screaming and yelling all hours of the night plus the lounge entertainment plus the luau so not a lot of peace and quiet here. Restaurant food was marginal at best the flies made it almost unetible and gross. They have nothing in place to reduce amount of flies that come to your table with your food. A few table fans or even ceiling fans would reduce this fly infestation. They had no outdoor lounge areas except for the pool lounge chairs now No comfy hammocks or places to sit and enjoy the sunset except from your room and the common lobby. So this is not like the resorts stay that you would find at most Hawaii locations where you can really enjoy the grounds. Beach: very porous sand horrible visibility and rocks trying to enter the ocean I only swam here once in my 8 day stay and opted to drive to other locations where the beach had that crystal blue water we all love. All water recreational toys cost huge amount of money not worth it. Needless to say, I won’t stay here again. Best you should only stay one to two nights if you’re desperate.

This is a smallish hotel and has the feel of a small hotel. There is a lovely restaurant and bar, very nice staff, the concierge Scott was super helpful and suggested an amazing day trip we wouldn't have heard of without him. Our biggest criticism is that we specifically reserved an ocean front room and initially got a room that you saw the ocean in the distance, but what you mostly saw was the entrance to the pool bathrooms. When we complained, they moved us to a room with a much better view but two separate beds, so it really wasn't the king Ocean front room we reserved. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend, as long as you specifically ask for a non bathroom view ocean front king :-)

We were only here for 1 night of our stay. We sat by the pool since it was cloudy. My issue was during check in, we did check in early which I am thankful for but when I did go to the front desk to check in I stood there for prob 40 seconds while two check in ladies one of which looked at me then went back to her computer without saying a word. They essentially ignored me until one mentioned do you need anything and I replied by saying yes I'm checking in. I do look young but anyone that comes to the front desk should be treated the same way regardless. I felt like I was bothering them , after checking in we got to our room which was ok, our sliding door did not close properly but we did get free water bottles . (The cheap ones) other than that this place is ok for a 1 night stay but I would not stay longer than that. Our room was also at the corner of the building that seemed to feel like the reject room with a lovely view of the parking lot which is fine for one night but the furniture and walls of the room looked worn out, considering a good chunk of paint was missing from behind the one chair. Not sure if it was the timing of when we arrived but staff at various times just seemed bothered to do their jobs. Not a bad place but just not one for us.
