My husband and I have stayed at this property for the past 17 years so, I can definitely answer your question. Makai has one row of reserved chairs long the walkway near the ocean. Save your money. The management of the property has closed almost all indoor restaurants leaving only outdoor "picnic style " restaurants. We don't prefer to eat on tables also inhabited by birds. There is massive construction at Ocean tower as they are changing that building to time share.
Back to your chair issue, feel free to move chairs around as you wish. We often move chairs from the lagoon just up the hill on the grass under a palm tree for shade. We also purchase our own chairs at K-Mart every time we visit the island so that we have chairs to take to Hapuna Beach. We donate them to the valet when finished. If the hotel is too crowded, we have taken our own chairs to the lagoon/grassy areas as well.
Feel free to ask any other questions.
