My weekend trip started off rough - there’s a rental car shortage on all islands and when I arrived to the airport taxis were at a 2 hour+ wait and no Uber or Lyft. I called to give the Inn a heads up that I’d be arriving later than expected and Oskar immediately jumped into action. He talked me through and sent pictures of the bus schedule with my specifics highlighted and I never would have thought to take the city bus. It was very efficient and only $2 to get across the island. He was waiting outside the Inn for me in the dark to make sure I found it and answered all my questions and made himself available throughout the weekend. I loved having the upper roomy corner unit and will come back if he’ll give me that room again! Would definitely recommend. Thank you Oskar! Tell Archie I said hello. :)

We checked in - in this motel (not a real hotel). Reception from 11 am present!! The price - unbelievable high !! How dare they ask? Value for money?? Nope , certainly not. Due to limited supply they can ask for such prices. The room - so so, needs renovation

Response from Shannon T, General Manager at The West Inn Kauai
Responded 19 Feb 2020
We are a small locally owned and operated hotel but we are not a resort which is what it sounds like you were expecting as your comment states that we are "a motel (not a real hotel)". I'm not sure exactly what you were expecting so it's hard for me to respond. You are visiting the island during the busiest travel season and hotel prices are higher at all hotels during this time. Our prices are at least half the cost of other hotels on the island and I'm sorry if you were disappointed with the accommodations. I hope you enjoyed your time while here on Kauai.

We were lucky to find this little gem available at the last minute. Nice low-key and comfortable facilities, a very affordable alternative to all the nearby resorts. Great value and friendly. Oscar the manager was very kind and accommodating for our small family. Mahalo!

This is a small yet modern hotel. Excellent location if you plan on spending sometime in Koke’e State Park. There are some nice beaches nearby and for any birder a visit to the water bird wetland will be very rewarding. We were able to check in early since the room was ready and the management upgraded us (without us asking) to a room with a full kitchen ( besides a large refrigerator and a microwave we had a full size electric stove). We had a small issue with the tv after reception was closed. I called the number provided and management got back to me quickly. Those are the reasons for giving them an A for costumer service. The room was spacious and everything was very clean. The kitchen appliances were new. The Ac was a bit noisy but it worked well (this is not to be taken for granted in Hawaii-many properties do not have ac or if they do it may not work well). There is also a fan over the bed if you do not want to use the ac. The king size bed was very comfortable. The place was pretty quiet and we slept very well. WiFi worked well. Plenty of towels provided. The hotel is close to stores and restaurants and next to the hotel is a fishing pier that is a great place to watch the sunset over the ocean. We enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere in Waimea and were very satisfied with this hotel.

This is really a motel just off the main road through Waimea. The location is good - ideal for Waimea Canyon, and only a short trip back down the road to the other centres for South Kauai. Our room was spacious, clean and well-equipped. However we had very poor sleep a couple of nights of our five night stay due to a combination of noise (especially the local cockerels) and air-conditioning which was far too loud to run at night. The lack of daily housekeeping is a nuisance, especially as this purports to be a standard "hotel" and priced as such. There's also pretty much no service from the staff - you're very lucky if you catch anyone in the office, and they failed to address a request from us to provide different pillows. The check out time is 11.00, but they don't open the office until later than that - ridiculous! Although our room had a table and a couple of chairs on a shared balcony, there's nowhere to sit in the sun should you wish to. This is probably a reasonable choice for a short stay, but I'd avoid it as a centre for a longer vacation.
