An absolute hidden gem. If you want to experience the heart of Maui, this is your place. Off the beaten path, and entirely surrounded by beautiful nature you can find (or lose) yourself in the hidden trails that lead to little treasures throughout the land. If you are inclined to experiencing something incredible - be sure to book a farm to table meal, a healing massage, sunrise yoga overlooking the ocean, and book some time with the owners. This is an invitation to leave renewed and transformed. On the logistical side, the location is just 15 minutes from major grocery, shopping and great food (in the towns Paia and Haiku). The staff here are absolutely lovely. I can't say enough about this wonderful experience.

Where do I begin with this review? Let’s start with how beautiful this place is! The pictures do not do it any justice at all. It almost felt surreal to be in such a peaceful and beautiful place. It is definitely a different experience that I am used to when I travel. It is very private, opposed to being in the areas with a lot of tourists. If you are looking to get away from the crowds and go where you can enjoy nature and all of its beauty and energy, then this is the place for you.

Keep in mind you are in nature, so expect everything nature has to offer, like geckos and insects. The place has screen and glass doors, so you can keep the insects to a minimum.

There is hot water, reliable internet, a fridge, stove, pots, pans, toaster oven, coffee makers (a couple of them), basic spices (if you decide to cook), and filtered well water, so your basic needs are met. Although there is no A/C, there is always a cool breeze blowing that keeps your room cool during the day and night.

The place is only 20-30 minutes from restaurants and grocery stores. They were close in distance, but the speed limit was mainly 15mph. So, expect to just cruise and enjoy the scenery as you drive for food.

If you choose to stay on the property you can hike to the waterfall and ocean. The hike to them are a bit difficult, so bring some hiking shoes and gloves to help grip the ropes on the steep terrain. Although my wife and I made it to both locations, we struggled, but felt rewarded when we reached our destinations.

Lastly, the host and staff were very friendly, helpful, and communicative. They give you your privacy, but respond quickly when you need them.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and my wife and I look forward to our next visit there.

It’s rare that I stay somewhere and think, “Why don’t I live here?” I started my week off at a fancy resort. While I loved the beach access, it felt so empty for my soul. I took a chance and booked a room here. Grateful I rented an SUV instead of a convertible, I drove down the steep dirt road to get here and wondered why I was staying so far away from everything. But that’s the point. My head is so clear here. It smells amazing. It’s quiet. Nature’s beauty surrounds me. The rooms are creatively decorated to inspire and relax the guests. This review will be 10 pages long if I start waxing poetic about the on site waterfall, fruit trees, community and exquisite architecture. And this is in covid times when many of the amazing activities that are normally here aren’t happening due to their responsible pause. It will only get even better, I’m sure... I am plotting my return. Deep bows to Kutira and Raphael for having this vision and actualizing it (my mind is blown at your ability to create and sustain this!)

My friend and I stayed at this amazing location while we gigged in Maui. The facilities include a beautiful room, shared kitchen, pure spring water, ocean views, yoga room, both private and shared bathrooms and bathhouse. They are completely powered by solar with battery banks. And they have good Internet connectivity.

The property has stunning hiking trails, waterfall, a very helpful volunteer staff housed in separate buildings. It is accessed via the Hana Highway, where you turn off on to partially paved and dirt roads. This part of the Hana Hwy is easy driving. The nearest town along the Hana Hwy (~35 min) with gas and stores is Paia. There are a number of beaches near Paia, but the water can be turbulent.

When we arrived on Kahului, Maui, my friend and I stopped at Mana Foods in Paia and shopped for food there before continuing on to the Retreat. The shared kitchen has areas to store food in both cabinets and refrigerator. Very clean. You are responsible to cook and clean up after yourself.

If you decide to go to east to Hana, it'll be about 3 hrs with stops along the way. The Hana Hwy becomes more challenging, but the journey is well worth it.

If you decide to go south to the beaches near Kihei, it's about 1.2 hrs. The ocean is warmer on that side, with decent snorkeling and excellent sunbathing.

My friend and I had a wonderful time at Maui Eco Retreat.

We spent five peaceful days at the beautiful Maui Eco Retreat. The hosts were lovely, and accommodating, and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Our room was large and lovely and we could see the stars, storms, and sunrises from bed or from the comfy lawn chairs outside. Also, if you like to make your own meals, they have a well-appointed kitchen with everything you need. And if you eat out, you have plenty of places to store your food. We found ourselves just wanting to be there in our oasis instead of out and about with the crowds. You don't want to miss this place when visiting Maui.

Hello! Newlywed here. So my husband and I spent the most amazing 10 days at this beautiful place for our honeymoon, The Eco Maui Retreat. Waking up to the beautiful sunrise and birds chirping each morning, with the view of the ocean was everything. It reminded us both to ground ourselves and bring us back to the present moment. Shout out to, the queen of the land Kutira and her husband Raphael(the owners) you are both amazing humans. Thank you Kutira for sharing your stories with us, you are a true inspiration sharing a bit on your journey and what you have built is incredible. Raphael, Thank you for your amazing shamanic nights, that was definitely on the top of my favorite things to do while being there. My husband and I both enjoyed it so much, we are still talking about it. You have taught us so much in such little time, we appreciate it very much. Also, thank you to William for the excellent customer service, Alex for sharing your beautiful energy with us, and all the other volunteers for making our stay an extra special one. This place and the people inspired us to bring a little piece of paradise with us, we are creating a meditation room in our house in UT and applying inspiration from the aesthetic of the yoga room. Thank you so much for everything, see you guys in the future cause I will be going back for more shamanic nights😉

We stayed here for a second time, and loved it even more than before. The location is stunning, with fantastic sunrises, lush tropical vegetation, including bamboo, fragrant flowers of all sorts, and a variety of
fruit trees. You can see the ocean through almost every window and hear the waves night and day. There is a variety of interesting buildings scattered throughout the huge property, including bamboo houses, temples with much glass, and wood cottages. The main house is comfortable and charming. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the gorgeous natural setting, and it is not far too from many restaurants, shopping, and beaches for snorkeling. Everyone there was kind and peaceful. We especially appreciated William, who checked us in and provided us with a ton of information about the property and Hawaii in general. He was always warm and welcoming. Thank you to Kutira and Raphael, for having us as your guests. Your place is truly magical!

I loved the fact that we were away from the hustle and bustle of tourism. We stayed in the Lotus room since we wanted a private bath. It also had a private deck where I enjoyed reading, star watching and meditating. Also spent time in the Temple which was a great place to 'just be'. Went to Rafael's Tuesday night in the Temple (can't remember what that was called) but for me it was what I needed for some personal issues I was dealing with. Everyone we met was so friendly and yet you felt like you were there almost by yourselves. The shared kitchen was laid out so you had your personal storage for food. It is quite a distance from any restaurants so be prepared to have some food with you. We stayed the first part of our 2 week vacation to Maui and it was perfect to unwind and get back to nature.

If your looking to disconnect, relax and some adventure I recommend you to stay here. This place has great trails to some waterfalls (make sure you bring the appropriate hiking shoes) The trails are steep. I stayed in the dolphin room that had a great ocean view and it’s own restroom. The sky is also breathtaking at night with all the stars.. Lastly William the host was so welcoming and helpful with explaining the map.

Will definitely be staying here in the future!!

If you are looking to getaway and connect with yourself and with nature this is the place to do so. There are so many hidden gems around here if you take the time to explore.

My husband, myself and our 2 year old traveled here for our intimate wedding ceremony, just the 3 of us. Kutira and Raphael performed the perfect ceremony for us. It was not generic or cliche , it was heart felt, and honestly everything we ever wanted in a ceremony. She even had one of the lovely women there help with our son during the ceremony. She was so sweet & so helpful.

Gabe and Andrea cooked us the most delicious meals we had while on island. Fresh & Farm to Table. You can tell their food was made with so much love. It was a such a pleasure connecting with them.

The stay itself was lovely. You are about a 30 min drive from any stores or beach & i recommend a car with 4WD to get there.

Hi, what are the prices for massages and thai massage?
Answer from MauiRetreat
Maui, Hawaii23 contributions1 helpful vote
Aloha, that is correct. We do not provide food. There is a communal, fully equipped kitchen in our main Opua House and each cottage has its own private kitchen. We recommend people stop at the grocery store on their way to us from the airport. There are also restaurants 15 minutes away in Haiku town and 25 minutes away in Paia town. Hope this was helpful! What difficulty are the hikes down to the ocean and to the waterfall?
Answer from MauiRetreat
Maui, Hawaii23 contributions1 helpful vote
Aloha Angela, The hike to our waterfall takes about 10 minutes, and the hike to the ocean about 20 minutes. We suggest good foot wear and of course being in good physical condition. The ocean hike is slightly adventurous and we consider it to be of medium difficulty. It takes you from our location on a cliff overlooking the ocean down to the rocky shore. Please watch our movie on our website and if you have more questions please feel free to call our office anytime. We want to make sure you would be able to enjoy our land. We hope to welcome you at our Maui Eco Retreat.
