Location with in the complex: We stayed in the recently renovated 102 condo found on VRBO. This condo is the prefect location compared to others in the complex. Quick walk to the pool and the best sunset view. Clean and well kept grounds. Caretaker is very nice.
Location with in Kīhei: Everything is in walking distance which is a bonus. Quick Turtle Track or Uber to anywhere in the area. Great walking access to Kam 1 and Charlie Young Beach. Cove Park is full of surfers to watch. Did I mention the fantastic beach park across the street. Great play structure for kids and roller hockey for adults.
There are both one and two bedroom units in a beautifully maintained complex. The units on the second floor all have lanais offering views that depend on the unit’s location. There are no elevators to the second floor units.
There is a lovely pool with a small hot tub and a small outdoor shower for use before your swim. The tub closes at 10 PM and reopens at 8 AM and the pool is meticulously quietly cleaned each morning around 6:30. There’s a covered area with several permanent picnic tables and gas grills to the side of the pool which comes in very handy. The pool area is gated as is the egress to the street side of the complex. The codes change monthly & are posted in the units. There are permanent residents as well as vacationers and all were very friendly.
Cove Beach across the road is used primarily by paddleboarders, but it’s just a short walk past that to beautiful Charley Young Beach which is great for spotting the “honu” (sea turtles) as you swim. Or you can just catch some rays on the beautiful beach.
What this place lacks in modern, it makes up for in charm and location. Unit 220 is a little dated. You'll hear that a lot. But, if you can look past the 80s decor, you will love this place. It's well stocked - tons of towels and sheets, beach chairs, a parisol, boogie boards, etc. The only thing not stocked well was the toilet paper and there was no tissue at all. We searched the place - no back up supplies.
The views from the lanai are simply amazing. I love watching sunsets from the beach, but at this place, you don't need to. Just grab your beverage of choice and sit sand-free.
Two disappointing things happened. Our airline changed our flight times, so we stayed an extra day. When this has happened before, other hosts reduced the rate for the last day, or didn't charge us at all. Maybe that's above and beyond, but paying full price for the extra few hours (we left at 4pm) was a bummer. Lastly, we left behind some clothes, and despite efforts and multiple messages to our host, we have not been extended the courtesy of a reply. That's kinda rude.
Unit 208 was awesome. Nice & clean & very modern. It has a great view from the balcony looking straight over the pool. It was very quiet & the beds were comfortable. It has a nice pool, hot tub &3 bbqs & the grounds were kept immaculate. It’s a great location. Very central to most places. The beaches just across the street & west are amazing. We went to a different one each time. The ones closest to the condo were the calmest & if you enjoy snorkelling, they offered the best reefs on the sides of each beach. Each time we entered the ocean we saw at least one sea turtle & many beautiful fish. The condo had washer & dryer which was very convenient. We would definitely use this unit again.
This is the 3rd time our family has stayed at the Shores of Maui so it should indicate that we are very happy with this accommodation booked through VRBO. You should be able to find a direct booking doing a targeted search. This year we stayed in Unit 215 which is 10% larger than many of the other units and the extra room allows the owner to out an extra bed into the bedroom. This unit is over 700 ft.2 which is larger than most reasonably priced hotel rooms or suites. The location is also excellent as it is located across from Kalama Beach Park and makes for easy access to many beaches along S. Kihei Road. The search of the VRBO website gives one a range of prices and level of accommodation. We think $US 120 per night is as much as we prefer to pay so there are units in Shores of Maui which cater to the lower end cost structure. The condo is not new but very comfortable. Most units are one bedroom and one bath. As this is the fifth time to Maui and 6th time to Hawaii we prefer the middle Kihei area. It is a longer drive to Lahaina but we only went to the Lahaina once so this was not an issue for our family
