I’ve been an owner at the Westin Kaanapali for almost 20 years. It’s expensive to buy and the annual fees are very expensive so of course we expect a certain level of accommodation. I understand it’s Covid but we’ve been in it for almost two years and I just feel at some point we need to stop using Covid as an excuse for everything. Checked in at 11:15 and understood it was early but expected the front desk to let the housekeeping staff know to clean our room as soon as possible as we have checked in. They explained check in is at 4:00 so we waited patiently. At 3:50 I was told our room wasn’t ready yet but it would be ready by 4:00 (fat chance). Waited in a long line at 4:45 to ask about our room and was told they hadn’t started cleaning it yet and it would be at least another 90 minutes. I am a reasonable person but this was completely unacceptable. The front desk manager who was very nice and helpful gave us another room which was comparable that we could get in to right away. The room is very nice - more modern than the rooms at the Westin Kaanapali. The beds as always at Westin were very comfortable. Although there were no robes in the rooms (apparently due to Covid but cannot figure out what a robe would have to do with a Covid) you have to call and ask for them. Also discovered there is no longer a mid-week cleaning service (although we pay the same amount). Our first morning we went down to have breakfast and discovered there is no service - you have to wait in line to order and they bring you your food in to-go containers. Why is every other restaurant on Maui able to have regular meal service but the Westin cannot? Also, the one dinner restaurant on property is closed (once again Covid is the excuse, even though there are a hundred other restaurants open on Maui). There is a pool bar, however it closes at 8:00 pm (they say due to a Covid). Westin is now owned by Marriott, the largest hotel chain the world and they can’t figure out how to run a so-called resort. It’s very disappointing that we pay so much to come here yet it seems they no longer are catering to adults. There are however lots of children’s activities and the pool is swarming with children. But as an adult there is no where to eat with real utensils and no where to get a cocktail after 8:00 pm. For a much cheaper price we could stay at a 5 star resort where we would have all amenities we need. They are still selling time shares here but I would never recommend buying anymore. If you like to travel without children, Take your $80,000 (the cost to buy two weeks a year here) plus $3,000 annual fee, put it in the bank and stay at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua every year for 4 weeks. You would still be ahead and you could sit at a bar and have an adult cocktail and a real meal. So disappointed.

Joyce, the front desk manager is fantastic! She has a great personality, character and her service, understanding, and patience and epitomizes exactly what an organization such as Westin would want in a manager/employee. Joyce's style/talent is what will prompt guests to want to come back and visit/stay at the Nanea complex. Joyce, a job well done!!

When we arrived to the resort and showed a vaccine card issue by a foreign government (non-US), the front desk immediately put our international visitor in a 10-day quarantine because the resort DO NOT accept foreign vaccinations. This is even if the foreigner is traveling from the US into Maui after several days staying in the US. The front desk said that this is a regulation from the state of Hawaii: the only way this resort accepts you as a FREE guest is if you show you have been screened by the government of Hawaii website and your status is in GREEN when you show your QR code. Otherwise, you are deprived of your freedom and placed in quarantine.

As owners here at Nanea, we have noticed a significant reduction in amenities from 2 years ago. No fine dining at resort with limited pool bar food available. No restaurant for dinner here at resort which really needs to get fixed.! There is no enforcement in keeping the 2 plunge pools for adults only which leaves the place over run with kids. Cucumber water at entrance removed. The onsite grocery store at the resort is no longer affiliated with Nanea- therefore cannot charge to room with 10 per cent store discount no longer valid. Also, all on site services, bar, etc, are closed after 8:00 pm. Amenities in rooms scaled back as well (no pillows on sofas or chairs) The place looks stripped! Looks like they are doing the bare minimum at this high end expensive resort.

Sayed at the resort for 6 nights recently in a 3 bedroom villa. Overall great place but my interaction with Leila at the front desk exceeded my expectations. On the day of checkout we had a red eye flight on a Sunday night so spent the day on the beach after checkout. When time came to head to the airport all options for showering and changing for travel were closed. may wife , daughter and son in law had long flights back to the east coast so we wee not looking forward to long flights salty and sweaty. I explained my predicament to Leila and she worked with her manager to arrange a one time pass to a clean unit that we could use to shower and change for our travels. This totally exceeded my expectation, Leila's actions was the topping on the cake of a great week and wanted to thank her for taking the opportunity to delight a customer.
