We've been to Maui on a number of occassions but never stayed here. We like the condo idea and decided to take a chance on Papakea. It's exactly that, ALL A CHANCE. Each condo is as individual as people. You may end up in a...More
I booked a week via Costco Vacations for my wife's 50th birthday present. The resort is actually situated right on the beach and nicely set up. What I didn't anticipate was the fact that we had actually checked into someone's timeshare rental. We received daily...More
We stayed in the busy season in the 2-bedroom, 2-bath Unit L-103, with views of Molokai and Lani. I would have to say that the quality of the visit was more dependent on the type of people who were there at the time.
Only stayed here for a few days, but it was really nice and extremely relaxing. This is a simpler place than some of the other resorts and doesn't try to be silly or flashy. No air conditioning in the units but it stays cool with...More
The grounds are beautiful and the sunsets first rate. Views of Lanai and Molokai. There is a rock wall and no beach but you can use the beach right next door. The sand is fine but once entering the water there is a lot of...More

The Papakea has no beach in front of it. Just stairs into the ocean. You may get a few feet of sand at low tide but never enough to set up chairs or sun bathe. Also, not ideal for launching in to go snorkelling as it is not protected there. They do have lawn chairs on the grass, right next to the seawall.
There is a great beach within walking distance in both directions, if you don't mind carrying your gear. We chose to drive to a destination beach when we wanted to.
Having said all this, we did not miss having immediate access to the beach and we loved the Papakea. So much will depend on the unit you rent since they are privately owned and vary greatly. Whatever your decision, enjoy Maui!
