Centrally located small hotel with a historic, arty appeal. Close to restaurants, cable car and theatre and museums. Service is personable and excellent. Rooms are spacious and quiet. Lovely lobby bar area for quiet glass of wine or cocktail in the evenings or a nice breakfast in the mornings.

Three friends on a get away, the room was large and comfortable , the lobby lovely and the Library/Bar area was an enjoyable way to end a day of sightseeing. The hotel staff were not only extremely nice they were informative, helpful and always available with an answer to a touristy question!

Nicely restored, very artistically decorated hotel two blocks from Union Square. Building is old enough to have fire escapes, which our European companions marveled at, but everything worked well. Staff was very accommodating and pleasant.

Wonderful experience from checkin to checkout. Cheerful and efficient staff in a boutique hotel with great ambience and downtown location. Our stay was perfect! Even though we are "locals", we'll stay again when we have a late night/early morning City event to attend!

Overall the hotel is good. It is an older building but that is part of the charm. If your expecting a newer hotel with fancy rooms then this may not be for you. If you want charm and history this is a good place. My room was small but clean. There was not much of a view and the window...

Always a great experience. Great central location with access to many parts of the city. The Library Bar is a perfect place to have early evening cocktails while listening to live jazz, and then return to at the end of the night's activities. The staff was very helpful in recommending nearby dining and entertainment options.

Just returned from our third stay at the Rex. It's a charming hotel in a great location. Walked to so many nearby shops and restaurants. The staff at the Rex is fantastic, so friendly and attentive. Already excited to start planning our next SF trip!

A great little hotel with a real artsy feel. Fantastic reception staff who took care of the car parking when it turned out we'd misunderstood the parking permits system. After a somewhat hair raising drive through San Fran to find the hotel this was much appreciated!! The hotel had a much different feel to a corporate hotel - a bit...

This is the first time that we feel Trip Advisor has let us down. On the plus side, this hotel is in a brilliant location - close to union square with access to trams and buses heading all over San Francisco. Beds and bedding are great. Library bar delightful and full of character. Tea and coffee available free from the...

Stayed here for 5 nights as part of my 60th birthday sojourn around the USA. Ideal location with street cars, F Line trams and trolley busses to all parts of the city within a minute or two's walk. A real oasis within the city - the lobby, bar area and corridors all have a library/literary theme to them. The bar...
