I stayed at Hotel Boheme for a couple of nights in March. It was cosy and retro in style. The rooms and furnishing are a bit run down (it's possible that a change of carpets would fix it all), but nevertheless clean and comfortable. I asked for a quiet room and it was indeed dead quiet. To me, the two...

This is one of those really cool finds you run across occasionally when traveling. If you are looking for opulence or extravagance this probably isn't the place for you. However, if you are looking for unique, great location, reasonable rates, then you will like this hotel. Has always been clean when I've stayed there (which has been multiple times over...

If you are after schmick and slick don't stay here. If you have difficulty negotiating stairs it's also best to stay elsewhere. However if you desire to loose yourself in a forgotten era and soak up the contrasts and charm which is this slice of North Beach then try to get a room at Hotel Boheme. It feels more like...

Rooms are dated and the ones we stayed in did have a strong musty smell. They were very small and shabby. I felt cramped. Location is good and you can jump from the cute bars and restaurants to the room easily, but yes--the room overlooking the street is noisy from traffic and construction. The staff were friendly and helpful, but...

My wife and I stayed at Boheme for 6 days. The room was kept very clean with great cleaning service daily. We had an inside room that was quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The evening sherry provided was a welcomed extra touch. The desk staff of Charles, Robert, GiGi and Mary were pleasant, polite and catered to all...

Hotel Boheme is an average boutique hotel. I booked it for the price, appx $200 a nt which by comparison to other SF hotels is affordable. Small and old. Service is minimal. No extras but serves as a decent location to explore SF. I would stay again.

I stayed here on a rainy day this week and it was cozy indeed. You will have to pay a bit more, but I think it's worth it for the character. The rooms are little, the stairs narrow, the street below is abuzz with people in the cafes. But isn't that so much nicer than a big anonymous megamotel, all...

The hotel is beautifully maintained and the rooms are cozy and tidy. This is a real "old time hotel" with charm and personality. Others have mentioned the stairs and they are no joke! But don't let that discourage you if your looking for charm and a great location. There are so many options on places to eat and your steps...

Great little hotel right in the heart of Little Italy in North Beach. Great base to explore SF. Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, Union Square all short walks. North Beach great bars and restaurants, and of course Beat Generation bookshop City Lights. Staff were friendly, rooms small but comfortable and nicely decorated. A nice change from the US chain hotels. Nice touch...

The host was friendly and the room was clean which might be enough for some visitors, but coming from overseas and carrying a lot of luggage I was disappointed to find that we had to walk up a number of stairs to get to our bedroom. The room was very small with an even smaller bathroom . During the night...

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
