I actually live in a small studio nearby the Inn and have had guests stay there in the past, and they've always been very happy with their accommodations. The rooms vary pretty dramatically from one to the next in terms of layout and amenities, but that is part of what makes it charming. Most recently I had my visiting friend... More

A chance google search helped us find this gem of a B&B ! We have stayed here 3 times now. Each time has been a wonderful experience. We have stayed in the Red Room twice & the Garden Studio once. Friends have stayed in several other rooms as well. Each room is nicely layed out, with all the necessities, very... More

This was our second stay at the Inn on Castro. Jan is a perfect host. The breakfasts are delicious. Close-by public transportation makes for an ideal location. Easy to get to/from the airport via Muni and BART.

I've been staying over a decade at the Inn on Castro, and always know I'm home when I walk into the bigger of the apartments that Jan rents. He's always updating with a piece of furniture, or a new rug or something to make the experience so much more enjoyable. One of the biggest selling points to me at least... More

The Inn on Castro remains delightful, well run and spotlessly clean, with an attractive living area and delicious breakfasts [thanks Jan!!]: combines high tech with the feel of an authentic b and b from the past: always happy to come back

In addition to the comments in the title, here, this entrepreneur is very knowledgeable of the city, neighborhood, and very interested in us guests, wherever we are from. The amenities are very tasteful. Feels like home. Breakfast is fantastic.

For decades I have been staying at The Inn on Castro when I am in San Francisco for business. It is quiet, clean, super comfortable, with kind flexible management and delicious communal breakfasts. An ideal home away from home.

The inn on Castro was such a gem. I didn't even know it existed until I went. The rooms are beautiful and the Victorian detail to the home is lovely. They provide free made to order breakfast and have a fridge on the floor that has free drinks. I can't wait to go back.

Jan's Inn in the heart of the Castro is a true gem. Full of art and unique mid century furniture, you're getting a real San Francisco stay. Jan will also cook you a delicious breakfast each morning in the beautifully appointed dining room / lounge area. The brown velvet couches are 👌👌👌. It's also within walking distance to a ton... We stayed in the Green Room in early October and had a fantastic time. The B&B was very comfortable and clean, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. The location was perfect, with transit easily accessible close by and lots to do/see within walking distance. I would highly recommend the Inn on Castro!

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
