If you are comfortable with the small intimate hotels in Europe, you will enjoy the Hotel Griffon. The building was constructed just after the 1906 earthquake and has obviously been updated with good wifi, etc. The location is perfect if you want to be near the Ferry Building which is practically across the street. The rooms are small, just as...

As soon as you are stepping into the hotel you are greeted by amazing staff that is taking care of you until your check-out. There is no attitude as in other SF hotels, they make you feel really welcome! Rooms: ++ Room size: As common in older hotel structures the rooms run on the smaller side but if you can...

I thought it would be nice to stay on a boutique hotel close to the Embarcadero for one night in SF. Big mistake! This was the WORSE experience I ever had in a hotel! I have a hard time understand how a "so called hotel" can remain open with the kind of service and rooms that the Griffon offers. We...

Hello Vicente, Thank you for your detailed perception of your short visit to our hotel. We have already been in communication via e-mail and a solution offered. I am sorry that you experienced issues with your accommodations; in investigating them today, we found that the issues in both cases stemmed from opening up the windows which allowed outside odors to...

The Hotel Griffon is my favorite hotel in San Francisco -- PERIOD! Located a stone's throw from the city's landmark Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, the Griffon's European charm and comfort remind one that they are indeed in the Paris of America, to which SF has always been compared. I have stayed there at least a dozen times over the...

Amazing view of the SF bay bridge! Right from the bed the view was amazing of the bay and the light show on the bridge. Checked in around 7 pm and asked for a view of the bay. First room had the big hotel sign blocking so she quickly moved us up a floor and the view was incredible. The...

A few years ago, we started a tradition of traveling over the week between Christmas and New Years and then spending New Years Eve somewhere "fun" before returning home on Jan. 1. For the past two years, that focus has been Northern California with NYE in San Francisco, and this past NYE, we discovered what's going to be our go-to...

This was my 2nd stay. Brought the family for a fun weekend getaway. Hotel Griffon does not disappoint. We were able to drop our bags early with the friendly front desk staff, and head over to our Alcatraz tour. The room was great. We had a suite, plenty of room for all. I love all of the original brickwork. Comfortable...

This is a wonderful boutique little hotel. True the rooms are small - but really nice. The elevator is also small- but was there at the press of a button. The biggest plus is the staff- everyone - were extremely nice and very genuine about making sure our stay was great. It was- thank you!

The hotel is in a great location. Perry's restaurant downstairs, and Boulevard on the corner. The only issue I have is the price for a room with no window. There was some noise that bled through from adjoining rooms that was not so great. I chose Hotel Griffon as it is walking distance to my office. A real plus.

Dear John, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments. I am glad that you enjoyed out location; we are fortunate to have and be surrounded by some great sites, not least of which are the myriad dining options on the Embarcadero. While all of our rooms have windows, including some with sweeping views of the Bay,...

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
