Very nice and kind staff at the reception, he showed us what to look around and informed us of rough areas in the city. Hotel is well centrally located. We have our own car but you could take bus or cable car. Happy with the location and free car parking is an added plus. Only issue was the noise coming...

Great location, comfy beds, walking distance to transport and fisherman's ward. Recommend if on budget, and believe me San Francisco is not cheap but well worth a visit. Tip for the internet needy coming from Australia. Don't buy credit from home, when you get here go to T Mobile and for $105 us you get a phone with unlimited internet...

This place was affordable, newly updated and perfect for our stay. Easy walk to Fishermans Wharf and had breakfast and parking included. Great value for the money and easy to get to public transport. Great value!

Stayed in room 106 in the back so there was a little less Van Ness street noise. Loved the micro & frig. King bed was quite comfortable. Bathroom is newer & nice. Room was clean. Nice plantation shutters & flat screen tv. Our room did not include the table/chairs as other rooms so not as comfortable for breakfast (Office serves...

We stayed in a room with 2 double beds. Room was big enough, also had a couch and coffee table. The room is a little outdated in regards to furnishings, but this doesn't effect the stay - everything was clean and comfortable. A light breakfast is included. Coffee, tea and o.j. crossiants, mini muffins, fruit and yoghurt. I think it...

Rooms are clean and comfortable, but noisy(could hear outside and the heater that would make a lot of noise as well). Service was poor. Took a while before I could check in, the front desk agent couldn't find my reservation online. I asked direction to the pier 33 for the Alcatraz ferry (which is about 25 min walk), he pretty...

Inexpensive, but great value. Room was clean and efficient. Not fancy, but quite acceptable with a friendly staff. Free parking a big plus in a city with deficient and expensive parking. Good location within walking distance to many attractions in the center if town, including fisherman's wharf.

We wanted to spend less on accommodations and more on eating and sightseeing. I looked at a lot of places in this area but chose this one due to a picture I saw of the bedspread believe it or not and when I read it had free parking that was the icing on the cake. Check in was easy and...

The rooms are small, but I was comfortable and the location is great. Large shower in bathroom and room had small fridge and microwave. Parking is free, that in itself is a rare commodity these days in SF. Area has loud traffic noise and the walls are thin, I definitely could hear my neighbors laughing through the walls. I had...

The Van Ness Inn isn't the best hotel in San Francisco. The rooms are quite small and the building generally isn't too new. However, it's got a great location that's around a 5-10 minute walk to Lombard Street and a 10-20 minute walk to the Fisherman's Wharf. It also isn't very expensive. The location offers free parking: something not all...

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
