The place is safe, also in a reasonable area of San Francisco, breakfasts are free and available 7-10am. They also store your luggage after checkout and can print your boarding passes. It was not very noisy and we enjoyed the stay.
GDC attendees informally call this the "Indie Hostel," as indie game developers from all over the world stay here. You can find them hanging out in the lounges, at breakfast, etc. It's great! Free breakfast, WiFi, coffee, earplugs. Coin-op laundry. Short walk to Moscone.

The location is ok but not great if you wanna see the bridge, pier 39 or china town. The hostel is safe needing a key card to get in then you have to show it to the staff before heading upstairs....More
