Wonderful B&B with an old San Francisco feel. Gracious and accommodating host, thanks Jack! Awesome quiche, an amazing assortment of fresh berries, and more. Looking forward to coming back. Location is quiet and convenient.

Fabulous. What can I say. It was a wonderful experience and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Nick was wonderful and so accommodating with his cakes and delicious breakfast. So nice and welcoming. The room was so nice and the staff great.

Enjoyed our stay in this eclectic Bnb. The staff were helpful and friendly, beds were comfortable and the bathroom was modern with great shower and interesting toilet seat which was heated and had an integral bidet function. We loved the decor and the laid back ambience of the place. Lovely antiques and rugs gave this hotel a quiet feeling of...

We spent one night at the Monte Cristo (and wished it had been for more). The place is great! So much history (it was a saloon and brothel and survived the 1906 earthquake!) and charm! Nick, the breakfast chef, was particularly friendly and cooked us a wonderful breakfast (omelets, quiche, etc). While parking is definitely an issue in SF, we...

The Montecristo was just a fantastic B&B for a city like San Francisco. A comfy room and bed, yummy breakfast (with all day snacks available), and really nice staff . In a tranquil neighborhood of the city.

This bed and breakfast was quite a find in the Pacific Heights area in San Francisco. We felt like we were walking into a different century altogether. The beautiful antiques, lovely lithographs, and fancy mirrors created a remarkable atmosphere in this corner building built in 1875. There are 18 rooms, all different, and all updated with a mix of old...

If your criteria for accommodation is price, this may not be the place for you. Monte Cristo B & B, located in the western edge of Pacific Heights, is expensive. But the service is excellent and the breakfasts are terrific. There are some good restaurants nearby and the Number 1 bus to the heart of downtown is just steps away....

The Monte Cristo is a highly recommended off the beaten path place to stay in San Francisco. We stayed for a long weekend in April while visiting our son. We had no car but did not find this to be a problem as it is very close to bus lines and within walking distance of good food and the Presidio...

A wonderful place to stay. The room was charming, comfortable and very clean. Only one window, but the fan created an adequate breeze. The breakfasts were great, and snacks and homemade cake were available all day and night. The chef, Nick, was very friendly and accommodating, even offering to make something "to go" for a guest who was off for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If the walls of the Monte Cristo could talk, what stories they could tell, for this remarkable building has been a part of San Francisco since 1875. When the great fire swept the city after the 1906 earthquake, homes were put to the torch on Van Ness Avenue to create a firebreak, and the 'Saloon' not only survived, it served as a refuge for the newly post-quake homeless. This European-style B&B is convenient to the entire city and is at the junction of three great neighborhoods, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights, and Laurel Heights. It is in one of the cleanest neighborhoods in San Francisco with abundant street parking. It is only two blocks to the elegantly restored Victorian shops, Zagat-rated restaurants and antique stores on Sacramento Street. It's within walking distance to shopping on Union Street and Fillmore Street. ... more   less
