I'm a frequent guest in San Francisco and I stayed in places ranging from $50/night dumps to 5* hotels with $50 breakfast. I can honestly say this is the best value you can get for your money. Yes there are few drawbacks but they are mitigated with thoughtful service. People working there are the kindest and most helpful people I... More

Really enjoyed our stay here - we opted for one of the rooms with a shared bathroom. The room itself was super clean with a really comfy bed. Generally didn't have any problems getting into the showers (which were always immaculate) and the hotel provides free robes and slippers for getting to and from the bathroom. Breakfast is really nice... More

See this as a hostel experience and you'll be very pleased with what you get. 1906 lies in the mission district, which harbours a lot of homeless, but let's face it they are all around San Francisco. And I found this neighbourhood had a more authentic feel to it. Once you step into the hostel, it's totally like coming home.... More

Can't rate this hotel highly enough, I never do trip advisor reviews because I always forget but made sure not to forget to do one for 1906! The staff were so lovely, helpful and friendly - all the desk staff and housekeepers too. After a long day of travelling the comfort of our bed was just amazing, the room was... More

My wife and I stayed there several months back...and i had to talk her in the idea of a shared bathroom. I have to tell you, after a week there my wife was so impressed by how clean they were. She is now open to a hotel with a shared bathroom. The rooms are small, clean, and simple...so the bottom... More

If you know anything about the Bay Area, you'll know that property costs are one of the highest in the world, so hotels and even Airbnb places are priced accordingly. However, this hotel is a local gem that offers a very reasonably priced location. Others have mentioned the homeless people and the sketchy neighbourhood, but that's part of its charm.... More

Hello, I cant begin to tell you how thrilled we are that you enjoyed your stay with us! Your review was truly a gem to read because it is such a beautiful thing when our guests "get" what we are trying to accomplish with our little "off the beaten path" bed and breakfast. We understand that shared bathrooms, navigating through... More

We had a private double room here and there were a lot of couples, I'm not sure if they even do big sharing rooms like other hostels. Its small hostel with very nice, spacious rooms. The toilet and shower are shared but are very nice. I only had to wait a few times to use the shower. There is free... More

1906 Mission is the most affordable place we found in San Fran, and in the coolest area of The Mission District. The only slight downside is that you have to share a bathroom (2 per floor) but this really is no biggie. They are the cleanest and most spacious bathrooms I've ever seen and I never had to queue to... More

Staying in Mission District

Neighbourhood Profile
Mission District
From burritos to bicyclists, the Mission is the foundation for all things hip in the city. Cultural attractions, an independent arts community, sumptuous street murals and a high density of bars and cafes make this neighbourhood a magnet for young people. While terrific inexpensive food is abundant, its top-of-the-line restaurants now compete with the city’s best for fashionable diners. Indulge as the locals do by heading to Mission Dolores Park, buy some ice cream, and savor one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in the country.
