Very friendly staff, clean rooms and distinctive character. Although it's location is very convenient in Fan Francisco (close to call the city attractions), it is also close to the "bad" part of town, and so don't be surprised to see homeless and prostitutes on the street corner at late nights.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Carlton for a relaxing long weekend, and I was very pleased. I wanted to be close to Union Square, but a little away from the bustle. Relaxation was my goal, and Hotel Carlton helped me achieve that. Only a few ambulance sirens headed to the hospital 2 blocks away, so plenty quiet while being...

Have stayed at Hotel Carlton several times since 2005--always good service, clean rooms, good experience. Hotel breakfasts were good, the dinners spectacular. Enjoyed the cocktail hour in the lobby

Recently stayed at the Carlton when visiting San Francisco for business. I had a great room thought quite small, but I was alone so it suited me just fine. Great bed and very clean bathroom. The reception staff was very very nice. One small issue with the valet (more than an hour to get my car) but overall excellent service

We understand that sometimes our Valet can be slower than others, and we suggest that you call ahead to have your car brought around. There is no extra cost, and it will alert the team that you...

We had an amazing experience at this hotel. Its close to everything! The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They made sure our stay was perfect. Their valet serves is worth the extra money. We left the car with them the whole time and never needed it. Parking in SF is very difficult so it was nice to know...

I stayed at and reviewed this hotel back in 2006 when I was last at this hotel. At the time I gave it 5 stars. Unfortunately for the Hotel Carlton it seems that times have changed. A once lovely and well maintained hotel has been left to crumble. Walking into the foyer was the same as last time, and as...

We had no idea where to stay when we booked our trip to San Francisco. We had a tight budget and wanted to be close to Union Square. Hotel Carlton seemed like a bit of a gamble based on the reviews, but it turned out to be a wonderful treat. The staff are hilarious, the location is great (and not...

This was our first visit to San Francisco and we had no idea where we really wanted to be, we don't normally like tourist areas but in a City there is little other choice. We decided on the Carlton because on several review websites no one actually had anythig really bad to say about it, you will always find someeone...

We enjoyed our stay immensely. All the staff we came across greeted us with a massive welcoming smile. While they were eager to please, it was not in a manner that became intrusive on the privacy and independency you might want when on vacation. Location was great with only a short stroll to the centre of town or the nightlife...

a well-maintained hotel with free wine-tasting daily at 5.30pm and friendly staff. Rooms are beautifully furnished. Food served at the Saha restaurant downstairs (not owned by hotel) was lovely. Coffee is good too. (Very important in this land of awful coffee)
