This property is in a prime location -steps away from Macy's , Saks and other shopping plus two theatres just up Geary Street and of course Union Square. Being family run for years it has extra touches which makes it a cut above the usual in this city of fine hotels ,like mail posted in vintage boxes on all floors... More

I arranged a small team meeting at the Handlery during the holidays and we received excellent customer service from the moment we entered the hotel. It was nice to have all our attendees pleased with their rooms and the service they received. Melanie and Laura were responsive to our needs for pricing and coordination to arrange our meeting and throughout... More

We stayed one night and location was good but the room we had on the 4th floor was damp and smelly.I called the housekeeping and he sprayed something on the floor but I told him to open the window just to let out the bad smell, it's like someone is farted.Good thing ,we only stayed for one night otherwise I'll... Stayed here for 5 nights before heading up to the wine region. This hotel is situated in the heart of Union Square and the cable car stops very close to it. There is easy access from here to the numerous transport options in the city. We had a comfortable room in the historic section of the hotel. (I had requested... More

Stayed for 4 nights for the first stop of our California road trip. Our room was big and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the street. We stayed on a B&B basis, which basically meant you had a choice of one of 3 dishes; American cooked, granola or waffle including one drink. Anything extra was at a cost ie I ordered... More

The hotel was nice but the room was very small. When travelling with my wife and family I would like a bigger room. The bay window opened fully and that was nice. There was nothing that made this property welcoming. It was Ok. But I will probably look for better value elsewhere.

A reasonable place to stay, but priced like a luxury hotel, which it is not. Rooms were fine and relatively comfortable but nothing special, and that the temperature was very difficult to regulate. View was non-existent - we got a view of the concrete on the other side of the building. Location was very convenient.

Very good hotel. As in many American hotels, great staff. Room was clean with 2 double beds. Breakfast was included and was of a good standard. The hotel was 200 m from a tram stop so very convenient location. The only negative to this hotel was the fact that our room was on the street front. San Francisco is a... More

A line of 30 guests greeted me at reception. After waiting ages for an impecunious guest to settle his bill with nickels and dimes, I lugged heavy bags up multiple stairs and alleyways, past a retro motel swimming pool to my large, comfortable but very unbeautiful room. If you're only sleeping in the room, fine, but if you ant any... More

Very centrally located hotel in San Francisco. with friendly staff. Hotel room was located a long walk away from the nice reception area; down a corridor, up some stairs, past the indoor swimming pool and then finally a lift. Better than standard room, clean and nicely furnished. Pool was warm and nice. Breakfast at the hotel was very good, although... More
