Nestled in a prime location, the Hyatt Regency San Francisco earns accolades for its inviting atmosphere and modern, spacious rooms boasting impressive views. While the amenities, including comfortable beds and pristine bathrooms, are generally well-received, the lack of room service and breakfast options is noted.
Guests are charmed by the festive lobby and the hotel's cleanliness, yet opinions on service and noise level vary, with some mentioning disruptions. Additionally, the value proposition is questioned due to the steep costs of parking, rooms, and on-site dining.

Detailed Reviews

This hotel was a wonderful choice after our cruise. It's location close to tram and BART made it an ideal spot to stay as we were able to utilize the trams and BART a few times while there. Early check in with an upgraded room (for a fee) was available so we were able to bring our bags upstairs right away and enjoy our higher floor with a balcony view of the Bay. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room temperature perfect. It is a bit more pricey than some of the other hotels we have stayed in San Francisco, though the convenience of the location made this worthwhile.

Hotel's Favourite
We loved our stay at this hotel. We took our young son for his birthday to visit SF & Berkeley. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, and had a magical view of the Bay Bridge-panoramic view. We loved how quiet and clean the room was. Beds comfortable and pillows not too high was nice. Housekeeping were so friendly and brought us a microwave. The front desk check in staff are friendly and easy to talk to. They were hospitable and welcoming and helped clarify billing questions at ease. Breakfast buffet staff were also friendly and down to earth. The hotel facility is clean, nice and spacious but it has its own coziness and warmth from the staff. The location was superb! The Embarcadero bart station right in front, the major bus lines right in front and the Presidio Go bus that goes free to Presidio Park which drops you at a walking distance to the Golden Gate Bridge. We took a nice stroll to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown and Union Square. We took a easy ride to Berkeley to visit my old campus. Then an easy ride on the bart to SFO. We booked a rental car, but we never picked it up and decided to use public transportation the whole time and it was easy and comfortable- even if we are so used to having our own car on travels. No stress about parking. My son scootered all around SF and Berkeley, even on the Golden Gate Bridge. The location is so prime along with this hotel that provided everything we needed to our comfort, and it is very safe. We had a wonderful stay.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Room was very spacious with a comfortable king size bed, sofabed and coffee table. There was a coffee machine, a safe and good storage for clothes. Room temperature was easily adjusted and the room was very quiet with no noise from inside or out. The bathroom was large and well appointed with good quality toiletries. The shower temperaure could have been warmer on occasions. Housekeeping was thorough but erratic, possibly due to being Holiday time.
Front desk staff and bell hops were extremely helpful when our baggage was delayed by the airline.
Breakfast had a great variety of hot and cold items on offer, including make your own waffles, and as much tea or coffee as you wanted. Dinner service was sometimes a little slow but food was always tasty.
The foyer was beatifully decorated with a huge Christmas tree and special lighting effects.
Location of the hotel was perfect with easy access to the ferries, trams, BART and Metro from right outside the entrance.
I would recommend this hotel and would return. With just a few tweaks I would give it 5 stars.

This was our second visit to this property and both times were great. The staff is so hospitable, friendly, and helpful. Being a family in the hospitality industry we pay attention to the details and everyone on property was so great. The breakfast buffet was pretty solid for being complimentary (WOH status, I don't believe it is for everyone), having many options to choose from. I wish there were options for different pillows as they just sink down and there is no support and the automatic lights under the beds are an annoyance, but we just stuffed towels in front of them to keep it dark. We like the location for ease from the ferry terminal, hopping on a cable car, or just walking around.

We had long thought about the hotel choice in SF. People had read ugly things about the city that were partly true.
Hyatt Regency is located in the Business District near the Ferry Building. We had no reservations about moving around the wider area of the hotel at any time of day or night. The downside to this location in the Business District was that many restaurants in the area were closed at WE. On foot you could walk well to Chinatown and also towards Pier 39 along the waterfront, you can get depending on your step in 30-40 minutes.
We had a nice big room with a small balcony and views of the water. The bathtub still had that 90s US charm. I'm sure that would be better. Otherwise we had fridge and coffee machine in the room. What I would complain about for longer stay (we stayed for 3 nights) were the storage facilities . That was little closet for two adults.
As usual with such large houses and chains, the contact with the employees was not very pronounced and friendly-professional.

Overall, it is a great location to walk to view the fireworks at the Fisherman's Wharf. You cannot see the fireworks at the hotel on July 4th. They did a good job cleaning up the sidewalk area vs. covid times in the area. Seems pretty clean near the ferry building and safe. the hotel is literally across the street from the ferry building. The rooms are as shown, and there are no issues. I would recommend the rooms facing the bay bridge and higher level floors, it is worth the extra cost. The reason for the 3 star mainly was that the club room (the revolving top floor) was oversold and there was not enough/no service support and food for the number of people there. Some people said they waited an hour in line and there was no food at the end. happy hour $7 per alcoholic beverage was also a surprise as typical club rooms offer alcohol as part of the package. We mostly just visited for the view. So, I probably would not recommend having beverages or breakfast in the club room if it is a busy weekend/event. Otherwise, the overall stay was as expected.

Dear SFT111, Thank you for sharing your experience with us regarding your July 4th stay. We appreciate your feedback on our great location for viewing fireworks and the cleanliness efforts in the area. It's wonderful to hear that you found the rooms satisfactory, especially those facing the bay bridge on higher floors. However, we apologize for the challenges you encountered with our club room experience. Your comments about the service shortfalls and insufficient food availability are concerning and will be addressed with our team to ensure better management during peak times. We regret any inconvenience caused by the wait times and the surprise with the happy hour pricing. Despite these issues, we're glad to hear that your overall stay met your expectations. We value your feedback as it helps us improve, and we hope to welcome you back for a more seamless experience in the future. -Hyatt Regency San Francisco

My husband and I were visiting SF for a wedding, and everyone was staying in/around this district. The hotel is *beautiful,* and also cool! It's somehow both chic and traditional. The design of the floors and the layout is unique too. Quick note for others, the check-in station is on the 3rd floor, we were kind of wandering around looking for the desk...there wasn't a lot of signage. That said, all staff members were very kind, friendly, and helpful when they saw us wandering around looking a little out of place.
The room itself was beautiful and roomy. We had plenty of space for our clothes, there was a couch by the window, a desk, and still some room to walk around a bit in the middle. The bathroom was also spacious with a large counter, mirror, and magnifying mirror. All very important for getting ready for a wedding! Oh, and! Our room had a beautiful view of the bay and the bridge! The weather was very nice over the weekend, so it was great to look outside and see such a lovely view.
The location is great too. The embarcadero pier building is right across the street, and there was a market going on that Saturday. I don't know if that's a permanent thing or a pop-up but it was fun to walk around and see all the local vendors.
Would 100% return, and I would recommend the property to others without hesitation. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

Service at Hyatt was pretty good, staff was very friendly and I liked how my room was cleaned everyday. The lobby is absolutely beautiful (however, the impact is noise pollution from the lobby coming up to the rooms)
I can't speak to value since the stay was arranged by my company but the location was amazing, close to my office and also close to attractions in SF. However, depending on the location of your room you may hear lots of noise from the lobby from the restaurant/bar below and from people checking in. If you are a light sleeper I would recommend bringing ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones just in case (I unfortunately forgot mine).

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 4 nights during a conference. I did receive a conference rate of $259/night. I was offered an upgrade to a balcony room at check in for only $30 extra/night and jumped at it. For me, the balcony was worth it as I love to drink my morning coffee on the balcony watching the city wake-up with a gorgeous view of the harbor.
My room was on the 14th floor. The room was a hike from the elevators because of the lay-out of the atrium.
The room itself was large, especially in comparison to many downtown city hotels that I have stayed at previously. The bathroom was large with a huge sink area with plenty of room for all my stuff. The large shower stall had a rainfall shower head along with a wand that could be activated for a forceful jet of water. There were several hooks for hanging up towels for reuse, a nice environmental touch.
The living area also had a cute set of hooks that almost looked like a piece of artwork. There was a small fridge that worked well, along with a coffee maker and safe. The closet itself was small (it would have been too small for 2 people there for 4 days), but it was big enough for what I needed. The desk area was large with several outlets and there were also outlets on each nightstand. My favorite thing was the Homedics white noise machine. I definitely need to buy one of these. It was a nice accessory to have for a city hotel that always has the possibility of ambient street noise. The air conditioning worked great. The balcony was a decent size for one person, and included a chair, foot stool, and side table.
I received daily maid service (not a given in every hotel these days). My room was always spotlessly clean.
I ate dinner at the hotel my first night as I was fighting to stay awake after having traveled from the east coast and didn't feel like exploring. The service was excellent at the bar. The fish tacos were quite tasty, but they were a tad pricey.
I used the fitness center every morning which is located on the Atrium level and open 24/7. All of the equipment I used was top notch. There were 6 Life Fitness ellipticals, 4 bicycles, 6 treadmills, 2 gliders, a rower, Nautilus type weight machines, a universal type weight machine, spin bikes, free weights, yoga mats and balls, plus plenty of sanitizing wipes and towels.
There were so many restaurants within an easy 5 block walk of the hotel, which was fantastic for entertaining clients. We tried the Royal Exchange, Tadich, International Smoke, Bix, and Perbaccos.
I never had to wait more than 3 minutes for an elevator at the Hyatt. The longest waits were only during the busiest times (around 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.).
All the staff I encountered were kind and helpful, including the bell hops, doormen, front desk, and restaurant.
I would not hesitate to stay at this Hyatt again.

Superb hotel and well located. Easy access to the most popular spots. Very clean and helpful front desk staff. My only negative comment relates to the ongoing practice of excessive holding amounts for the duration of the stay. It’s not a financial pressure issue for us but i am sure it would be for many. $100 per night is over the top given rooms are cleaned and serviced thus monitored every day. For us it was a $400 hold. You will not convince me that this is a policy to protect against potential loss rather it is a money making exercise where the accumulation of such funds across the network placed on the overnight markets would be a significant revenue stream for the chain.

I received an email today to say it will be open when I arrive on the 26th August. Just wondering if it will be worth the upgrade?
They do not have parking, there is a public parking area about about a block away. I think it was $35. a day. We used the valet service, I think it was $50. a day. I did see some all day parking at the pier a few blocks away I think was like $25. a day
We ate at the morning buffet. It was excellent.
