The hotel is next to the Chinatown gate. I stayed in a room with shared bathroom. The room had a sink, and the shared bathroom was clean. You can walk easily to Fisherman's wharf or to downtown. I arrived eraly morning (check in is at 3 p.m.), they checked me in within 30 minutes without fuss. friendly staff, clean rooms....

I stayed for over a week. You get what you pay for, but it was fine where I stayed (5th Floor). For $ 56/night (taxes incl), close to everything, and away from the seedier parts of downtown, it's a pretty good deal. They don't change the sheets every day, but do you change your bed sheets every day at home?...

We had room 310 as per request away from the street. Room is sparsely furnished, bathroom has been upgraded, everything is simple and clean. Breakfast is included , not a very plentiful breakfast although there is orange juice, milk and real butter for sliced bread or bagels. Wifi is available in a large and quiet room on the 2nd floor....

Don't even think about it! Bed bugs are nocturnal so they're only suppose to come out at night, while your sleeping, when it's completely dark. We found a bed bug crawling on our pillow with all of the lights on when we'd just come back to our room. If you see adult bed bugs in a situation like that, it...

The Astoria is quite simply brilliantly located. At the entrance to Chinatown and within walking distance of Union Square and the Financial District. It's basic but for the low rates it is more than good value for money, with a decent continental breakfast thrown in. I would highly recommend the Astoria to travellers wanting a no frills hotel that is...

If you're looking for the most luxurious hotel in the city, with price as no object, this is not the hotel for you. If you want an excellent value, go for the Astoria. I booked a room for a week at a really good rate (I think it came to $69/night with AAA discount!) for a one bedroom with bathroom....

Good location is one of the advantage . Need to change carpet shampoo. Accomodating staff. Not as bad as i expected it to be when I read the other reviews. Hope they invest on new beds coz it makes squeaky sound / hard to sleep.

The location of the hotel is right next to the entrance to Chinatown. We were able to park our rental car and walk all around. Tons of shopping from big name stores to less expensive store fronts. You can get really great deal in the chinatonwn stores. Rooms were on the smaller size and the walls were very thin. Service...

If you plan on staying in your hotel while in San Francisco then this may not be the place for you but if you need a safe, clean room right in the heart of the city I would recommend the Astoria. This is a very simple hotel but it was reasonably clean and the staff was courteous, I expected much...

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
