My husband booked this hotel without reading any reviews (!), and once I read them, I was terrified. We gave it a chance anyway, and it really wasn't that bad. The room was small and shabby, but seemed clean enough. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The blow dryer worked for a minute and then stopped,...

Pressed for time and on a budget, I booked a room there. $137 after taxes is hardly justified. On the third floor, with no elevator, next to the (dirty) ice machine. The room was shabby at best. Cigarettes burns everywhere: From the bedspread to the furniture. A roach (unfinished joint, not bug) was left on the bathroom vanity. The towels...

The neighborhood is excellent and I loved staying in the Marina district as it was in walking distance to so many great bars, restaurants, and close to a lot of the touristy things we were hoping to do. I'm happy we stayed in the neighborhood but unfortunately, but if you can afford to book elsewhere, stay away from the HoJo....

Let me start by saying I am not a clean freak or a germ a phobic type of person. This is by far the worst hotel for cleanliness that I have ever booked. The first thing I do when I check into a hotel is throw back the covers on the bed and check it. Doing this here I found...

This location is extremely unsanitary, upon entering the room I was bombarded with a musty mildew smell. The bedding had not been washed prior to arrival, I could smell the previous persons body odor on the pillow cases and when I pulled back the cover I discovered urine all over the bed (the lady on duty tried to convince me...

. . . and I have stayed at some bad hotels. There were holes in the bathroom walls, stains on the sheets, stains on the pillow cases, towels looked like they had been used as a diaper, the room smelled like someone died there, and hoodlums in the open breeze way outside the room all night long. I canceled my...

I had previously stayed at the Wyndam in Medford, NJ. It was suberb, this was not. I had remembered HJ hotels from years ago and they were always good. This one ought to be torn down, it was one step above a dump. The whole place needed a good scrubbing and a painting. The towels felt as if made of...

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
